The Role

Deputy Development Director

The Role

This is a senior role on the Clare Development Office Team with responsibility for supporting the Development Director in the management and running of the Development Office. The role is responsible for line management and day-to-day office management for some members of the Development Team, providing oversight of gift processing, data management, prospect research, regular giving, alumni communications, events, and alumni relations including career support.

The Deputy Development Director undertakes face-to-face principal gift fundraising as part of the role and works with the Development Director to support and develop relationships with existing and potential major donors.

This post is full-time, 36.25 hours per week, with core working hours of 8:45am -5pm.

About the Role

About the role

This is a unique opportunity to lead a well established, community rooted women’s organisation with over 40 years of history. As Chief Executive Officer, you will provide strategic leadership, operational oversight and external representation, working closely with a committed Board of Trustees.

You will balance long term strategic thinking with hands on delivery, ensuring the organisation remains financially sustainable, well governed and responsive to the women it supports.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing and delivering a clear organisational strategy aligned to the charity’s mission and values
• Leading, motivating and supporting a small, dedicated team
• Ensuring strong governance, safeguarding, compliance and operational systems
• Support high quality, person centred service delivery and impact through strategic oversight and delegation. 
• Leading income generation across trusts, foundations, corporates, earned income and individual giving also including pitching to major donors and relationship building with communities
• Managing budgets, financial planning and organisational resources
• Acting as an ambassador and advocate, building partnerships across local VCS and local authorities
• Raising the organisation’s profile, influence and reach locally and beyond

About you

You will be a confident, emotionally intelligent leader with senior level experience in the charity, community or related sectors. You are values led, collaborative and motivated by social justice, with the ability to inspire others and lead effectively through complexity.

You will bring:

• Proven experience of strategic leadership, organisational development and growth
• A strong track record of fundraising and financial management
• Experience of working effectively with a Board of Trustees
• Excellent communication, influencing and partnership building skills
• A genuine commitment to equality, inclusion and supporting marginalised communities
• The ability to thrive in a small organisation, balancing strategy with delivery

Experience in community services, welfare advice or working with women facing multiple disadvantage is welcomed but not essential.

About the organisation

The charity is a women only organisation based in North London with more than 40 years of history. It was established by women supporting one another through hardship and isolation and has since evolved to serve a diverse range of communities across London.

Today, the organisation supports women facing poverty, insecure immigration status, domestic abuse, ill health and social exclusion. It provides a safe, welcoming space where women are listened to, supported and empowered to improve their wellbeing and independence.

About the Service
Solace is embarking on a new five-year fundraising strategy, with ambitious plans to double fundraised income to £3m by 2031. This voluntary income plays a pivotal role in the financial wellbeing of the charity, enabling us to do more to support the thousands of women and children who come to us each year as a result of violence against women and girls.

Fundraising at Solace works closely with colleagues responsible for winning and managing statutory funding contracts, and is situated within the Business Development Directorate, alongside our award-winning Communications, Partnerships & Public Affairs teams. You will collaborate with colleagues within Fundraising – including Corporate, Individual Giving and Community – as well as across the organisation including senior leadership and Solace’s wider support and volunteer networks such as trustees and its lived-experience-led Shadow Board.

About the Role

This role will lead on our organisational approach to individual giving, legacies, campaigns and appeals, and community fundraising. The role plays an important part in raising vital unrestricted income and connecting us with our loyal supporters.

About You

You will be a collaborative, creative and solution-focused with the ability to drive forward an unrestricted fundraising strategy that both connects us with our local roots and deliver campaigns and projects that have national reach and drive income.

With a knowledge and an understanding of individual giving and campaigns and ideally some experience of legacy and community fundraising to drive individual giving. Working closely with our Communications Team, you will bring a creativity and storytelling to our fundraising.

Our client, a leading UK Funder is looking for talented and ambitious Interim Grants Manager to join the Foundation's small, high performance team that supports 1.000s of charities across the UK each year. This role is offered on a 6 month fixed term contract which could be open to extension. Primarily office based but there could be a little flexibility to work from home once bedded into the role.

This role will play a core part in delivering the grants programme that lies at the heart of the purpose of the Foundation.  The role spans all parts of the grants function, including advising applicants, assessing and evaluating applications, and preparing reports for decisions on funding. Reporting to the Senior Grants Manager plus reporting to the Deputy Director on certain specified activities, there are also opportunities to contribute to special projects and initiatives as they arise.

You will have substantial Grant making experience with a UK based Funder, including grants assessment, dealing with enquiries, supporting grant applicants throughout the grant cycle, carrying out due diligence and preparing business cases to present to selection and decision-making committees. Highly organised, methodical and an excellent communicator, you will have a strong knowledge of the charity sector in the UK, will be aware of the needs of charities and the issues they face in attaining Funding, and will be able to see the bigger picture.

Working as part of a busy and committed team, this person will offer confident and knowledgeable grant-making expertise to support the team through a period of planning and growth.
