Job description

Help shape the UK’s dedicated Muslim Cancer Support Network. Lead, inspire and support volunteers delivering faith‑sensitive cancer support across the country.

Safeena is the UK’s dedicated Muslim Cancer Support Network, created to ensure no Muslim facing cancer feels alone. As we grow into a professionally governed national charity, we are recruiting a Volunteer Manager to lead, develop and support our expanding volunteer workforce.

The Volunteer Manager will oversee Safeena’s national volunteer programme including Befrienders, Community Champions, Bereavement Volunteers and operational volunteers, ensuring high‑quality recruitment, training, safeguarding, supervision and ongoing support. This role is central to Safeena’s transformation programme, helping build a credible, compliant and compassionate volunteer service that reflects the needs of Muslim communities affected by cancer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit, onboard and train volunteers

  • Deliver induction and ongoing training programmes

  • Provide supervision, wellbeing support and reflective practice

  • Coordinate rotas, assignments and community outreach activity

  • Maintain volunteer records, policies and compliance

  • Promote Safeena’s volunteer opportunities across communities and mosques

Person Requirements

Essential

  • Experience managing or coordinating volunteers

  • Strong organisational and communication skills

  • Ability to support volunteers in emotionally sensitive roles

  • Knowledge of safeguarding and confidentiality

  • Confident delivering training or group sessions

Desirable

  • Experience in charity, community or health settings

  • Understanding of Muslim communities and culturally sensitive support

  • Training in safeguarding, bereavement or cancer awareness
