About the role
The Learning Officer plays a key role in making sure evidence on how our homes and communities can become better places to age in is spread across the UK.
This role primarily works with the UK Network of Age-friendly Communities, a network of over 110 communities, led mostly by local authorities, VCSE organisations. This network is part of a global movement and is affiliated to the World Health Organisation.

Scope of the role
You will manage and successfully deliver key events including the London Marathon, Great North Run and London Landmarks Half Marathon, as well as third party and DIY challenge fundraising. You’ll lead on supporter recruitment and stewardship to meet or exceed agreed targets, while keeping budgets, income and performance on track, as well as maintaining accurate supporter data. You’ll also support on the delivery of Community and Virtual challenge fundraising, including our flagship challenge, Walk in Her Name.
1)Support planning and delivery of the Events programme
i) Support recruitment, engagement and retention across our event portfolio including London Marathon, Great North Run, London Landmarks as well as third party and DIY challenges to meet or exceed agreed income and engagement targets, while keeping budgets, income and performance on track.
ii) Responsible for the OCA London Marathon team from sign-up to post-race including delivery of training and fundraising support, on the day cheer point and post-race celebration activities.
iii) Attend events as required.
iv) Support the team Manager to plan and deliver virtual challenges, including our flagship event, Walk in Her Name and Walk 100, working collaboratively across the team to maximise supporter experience and campaign performance.

The Events team is a part of a wider Engagement team, responsible for raising more than £23 million this year!
This role would be working with the Senior Events Officer and another Events Officer, and would help deliver the charity's biggest and best London Marathon event (likely spending 75% of the time working on London Marathon, and the remaining 25% working on another event in the portfolio).
Supporter engagement sits at the core of the role, with a focus on meeting and exceeding engagement and fundraising KPIs through proactive communication, tailored guidance, and personalised stewardship.
You would need to interpret and analyse performance data to optimise supporter journeys, strengthen campaign effectiveness and maximise income.
Work closely with supporters to understand their motivations, while collaborating effectively with colleagues across teams.

North London Hospice has been caring for local people since 1984, providing specialist palliative and end-of-life care to people with life-limiting illnesses across Barnet, Enfield and Haringey, and increasingly within Camden and Islington. You will support the Sporting + Event Officer and Manager to deliver the London Marathon, as well as playing a fundamental role in stewarding our runners. You will help manage our London Marathon inbox, support fundraisers on the phone, help to provide content in our communications and social media posts, review and manage applications and support logistics.
You will have excellent communication skills and ideally some experience of charity fundraising or a desire to learn more about it. You will be organised, a strong verbal and written communicator with the ability to empathise and adapt tones. This role is new, created to focus on community fundraising which is a growing area with huge potential for PCR. We currently receive significant unsolicited income from our brilliant supporters, but there is a key opportunity to take a more proactive approach to recruiting new community fundraisers, improving their supporter experience and testing new offerings & products. You will work with the team to create and deliver a plan for this new proactive approach and will lead on day-to-day relationship management with fundraisers.
You will also lead the project management and delivery of some community-focused fundraising events. For example,our annual Snowdonia for Science event or testing new PCR-owned products which work for a community fundraising audience. We currently expect the split of time to be roughly 75% on community fundraising and 25% on events, but the two areas will be closely connected, and this split may change over time. We are excited to work with you to develop the direction of this role as the team and portfolio grows.
You will report to the Head of Events & Community and work closely with the whole team, as well as colleagues across PCR. We have flexible working arrangements, so you can choose to be office based or hybrid. The Events team currently try to work together once a week when possible, at our office in Chancery Lane, London. You’d also be needed to travel to team building and strategy days in London on an ad-hoc basis, and to supporter events across the UK when required.
