Job Title: Legal Project Officer

About the Role

The Legal Project Officer coordinates two projects which sit at the heart of ILPA’s legal policy and strategic legal coordination work.

The Legal Project Officer will work closely with the Legal Team (Legal Director and Legal Officer) to run ILPA’s Working Groups and with the Director of Strategic Litigation and Advice in a key role to coordinate strategic legal advice and litigation. The Legal Project Officer also works closely with the rest of the ILPA Secretariat, including the Chief Executive, Content and Digital Channels Manager, Training Manager, and with Trustees, ILPA and SLAC members, the SLAC Steering Committee and convenors of ILPA’s Working Groups.

You will support the organisation and running of ILPA’s thematic Working Groups, which provide a valuable forum for ILPA members to share best practice and discuss issues of current importance, assisting with agenda-setting, presenting updates, following-up on action points, answering queries, and preparing meeting summaries. The overall aim of these activities is to improve immigration, asylum and nationality law, policy and practice. 

You will work with the Director of Strategic Litigation and Advice to develop partnerships with NGOs and legal professionals around the UK and to coordinate all Strategic Legal Advice Committee (SLAC) meetings. These meetings will be held online, across the UK. Each SLAC group will hold four meetings per year as well as emergency meetings where necessary. You will be responsible for the minute taking of all SLAC meetings. You will work with the Director of Strategic Litigation and Advice to set member-led meeting agendas, identify member training needs, facilitate training, update the SLAC website, and feed in to monitoring and evaluation of the project. You will be responsible for coordinating SLAC Steering Committee meetings.

About you

The position would suit a self-motivated individual who is passionate about the sector and is looking to further their career in the immigration world, through coordinating and organising these two projects at ILPA.

You may be keen to be working at the heart of the systemic changes following Brexit, recent significant legislation, including the Nationality and Borders Act 2022, Illegal Migration Act 2023, Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Act 2024, Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Act 2025, and government initiatives to “reduce net migration” such as the increased Minimum Income Requirement for family visas, the suspension of the refugee family reunion route, and earned settlement and family returns proposals. 

You will have an interest in strategic litigation and how it can be used to protect and promote the rights of those discriminated against on the basis of their migration status. You will be passionate about being involved in the coordination of a unique and exciting project that brings the third and legal sectors together in developing strategic litigation. 

Given the complexity of immigration, asylum and nationality law, we do not expect applicants to have expertise in every area, but an understanding of the law and excellent critical analysis skills are key. Any successful applicant will be able to attend ILPA training to further their knowledge.

Main responsibilities

1. To liaise, work with, and gather evidence from ILPA and SLAC members to support advocacy and knowledge-sharing in the sector;

2. To coordinate and contribute to internal and external meetings;

3. To coordinate ILPA’s thematic working groups and SLAC meetings, including by attending evening meetings, agenda-setting, participating, drafting minutes/meeting summaries, and working with the Secretariat, ILPA’s thematic Working Group co-convenors, and SLAC’s Steering Committees to take forward agreed actions;

4. To handle queries relevant to ILPA’s thematic Working Groups and SLAC sent by members and others where appropriate, such as by forwarding these on to relevant individuals and drafting responses;

5. To manage SLAC’s Steering Committees;

6. To monitor, organise, and disseminate information, communications, and updates, which will often relate to law, policy, and litigation relevant to SLAC and ILPA’s thematic Working Groups

7. To assist with facilitating SLAC training events, and feed into the monitoring and evaluation.

Person Specification

Essential knowledge, experience, skills, and qualities:

1. A law degree, postgraduate qualification in law, or other relevant qualification in law; 

2. Experience of working in or with immigration, asylum and nationality law in the UK, such as in a caseworker or paralegal role;

3. Experience of building and managing effective professional relationships with a range of people, with demonstrable ability to communicate effectively in challenging situations;

4. Relevant legal knowledge, skills and judgment, including:

   1. an ability to navigate and understand the Immigration Rules and Government guidance,

   2. a general understanding of UKVI processes, and

   3. an ability to clearly communicate legal and technical information orally and in writing;

About the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association

The Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association (ILPA) is a charity and a professional association the majority of whose members are barristers, solicitors, advocates and IAA (previously OISC) regulated advisers practising in all aspects of immigration, asylum and nationality law. Academics, non-governmental organisations and individuals with a substantial interest in the law are also members.

Founded in 1984 by leading practitioners in the field, ILPA exists to promote and improve advice and representation in immigration, asylum and nationality law, through an extensive programme of training and disseminating information and by providing research and opinion that draw on the experiences of members. ILPA is represented on numerous government, official and non-governmental advisory groups and regularly provides evidence to parliamentary and official inquiries.

The Secretariat does not give advice to members of the public on individual cases but works closely with members to ensure that they are enabled to do their best for their clients. It runs ILPA’s busy training programme and produces a wide range of information for members and non-members.

About the ILPA Team 

You would be joining a small team, of around 10 team members. Under our current hybrid work policy, we have one anchor day (currently a Tuesday), in which you will be expected to work from an office setting in London, together with team members living in England and Scotland. On average, once a month, there will be a Working Group meeting in the evening that you will need to run in London. Purpose of the role

To deliver the Day One Casework bedside model to patients, or those closest to them, impacted by serious or multiple injuries which could result in life changing consequences, such as disability or death, within Leeds General Infirmary Hospital, providing support on some of the wards (such as rehabilitation), on-site clinics and other settings (e.g. rehabilitation centres). 

Have a visible physical presence within the Trust, becoming embedded into clinical teams focussing on major trauma pathways, facilitating outpatient and in-person legal clinics.

Key Responsibilites

The post holder’s primary duties and responsibilities are as follows: 

• Work closely, and in partnership, with NHS clinical staff and relevant community and voluntary sector organisations, to address the needs of patients, and those closest to them, affected by serious and life-changing injury. 

• Operate a case management approach to individuals, assessing and identifying needs, putting support in place including signposting, making referrals and direct support. 

• Provide consistency in assessment of all patients and their loved ones, irrespective of injury cause, age, status, giving access to the earliest possible specialist legal advice which supports rehabilitation and NHS cost recovery. 

• Maintain detailed case records, including accurate records of activity and intervention, using Day One’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, capturing and storing data in line with Day One policies and procedures and regulatory requirements. 

• Contributing towards report writing through the writing case studies and narrative to support data collection. 

• Implement processes and procedures to collect patient and family feedback and contribute to ongoing monitoring and evaluation of Day One services through providing relevant information, case studies and reports. 

• Deliver awareness raising presentations to clinical colleagues and departments. 

• Organise and facilitate outpatient and in person legal clinic drop-in sessions. 

• Build awareness of the role and charity’s purpose through building strong and effective relationships across the regional major trauma network, ensuring those who need it have access to Day One support. 

• Work closely with local authority, statutory and voluntary organisations to provide patient and family support and advocacy. 

• Help establish other support mechanisms once a person is no longer within the hospital setting, supporting the patient discharge process in conjunction with leadership from NHS staff. 

• Identify and support the recruitment and supervision of Day One volunteers, where appropriate. 

• Work closely in partnership with our Peer Support Service, focussed on promoting awareness and uptake within the region. 

• Work closely with the wider team on performance, quality, safety and effectiveness of all services, ensuring appropriate safeguarding policies are followed. 

• Work closely with our Fundraising and Communications team, supporting national activity, as well as regional initiatives to raise awareness and fundraise. 

• Be prepared to travel across the region and, on occasion, to other sites and national meetings as required. 

• Willingness to undertake continuous development and training for the role, including mandatory Day One and NHS Trust specific training. 

• Participate in external clinical supervision and monthly caseworker reflective practice to sessions to effectively explore and uphold professional boundaries within a safe, structure and supportive environment.

To work closely with those impacted by serious and life-changing injury, taking referrals and carrying out initial assessments of need, expertly navigating, signposting and putting services in place in the immediate aftermath of major trauma, including talking about and facilitating timely access to legal support to aid rehabilitation.

To establish and develop relationships with key stakeholders to promote Day One and address the needs of those affected by serious and life-changing injury. 

To work as part of the wider Day One Service’s team and organisation, taking responsibility for own record keeping and data collection in line with regulatory requirements.

We work with artists, galleries, museums and community spaces to offer inspiring arts programmes for people in the early stages of dementia and their companions. We train facilitators from around the country to deliver effective arts-based activities for people living with dementia, and we advocate for the benefits of the arts for people affected by dementia.

The Role

In September 2024, National Numeracy launched a new ‘Schools & Families Programme’ to support primary schools to increase pupils’ confidence with numbers, positive feelings about maths, and awareness of the value of maths outside the classroom. The programme also works to improve parents’, carers’ and school staff’s own confidence with numbers and supporting children with their maths. The programme has been hugely successful and is growing rapidly, supporting over 400 schools each year.

National Numeracy are now looking to expand this work into secondary schools across the UK.

The Schools & Families Officer will support the Schools & Families Programme Manager in managing fast-paced activity across the UK, including helping to deliver online training directly to school staff, recruiting schools, and visiting selected schools to ensure the success of the programme. The Schools & Families Officer will also support with the design and delivery of the new programme in secondary schools.

We are looking for someone who can support with this dynamic activity, is flexible, able to manage their time effectively, and willing to adapt to the changing needs of the charity. National Numeracy has an office in Falmer, near Brighton, in East Sussex, but the expectation for this role is that you will be primarily based at home, travelling occasionally as needed across the UK.

Location: Home-based South West, Hampshire and Isle of Wight. The Role

Reporting to the Engagement Lead, the Engagement Officer helps strengthen local stroke communities by bringing people together, championing lived experience voices, and building warm, trusted relationships with volunteers, partners, and healthcare professionals. By supporting local groups, gathering insight, and sparking meaningful conversations, the role ensures stroke survivors and carers feel heard, connected, and supported to reduce the devastation of stroke.

Job Summary for Colorectal Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist

In our Services team we aim to deliver clear and accessible support offer for people affected by a bowel cancer diagnosis through a clinically focused ‘front door’ of services. The post holder will work collaboratively with the Clinical Lead to deliver a strategy which will extend our reach to bowel cancer patients and establish referral routes from the NHS into our services.

As our Clinical Nurse Specialist you will work on the Charities Ask the Nurse Service alongside other specialist nurses. This is our service for patients to ask questions or concerns about bowel cancer. You will be responsible answering queries from those affected by bowel cancer and managing and developing the service.

You will work closely with the Clinical Lead to ensure Bowel Cancer UK’s clinical focus meets the needs of those affected by bowel cancer and is up to date. You will also provide expert clinical advice, with guidance of the Clinical Lead, across all areas of Bowel Cancer UK - including health professional education, policy, communications and fundraising equipping them with timely health system and clinical information.

Main responsibilities

• Support the Clinical Lead on, development, delivery and effective implementation of our core clinical (nurse led) services offer (Ask The Nurse service).
• Support the Clinical Lead on ensuring sound clinical governance across our clinical services.
• Manage our engagement and support offer to healthcare professionals to develop our networks and establish referral pathways from the NHS into our services.
• Provide expert clinical advice and opinion to programmes across the charity as required including input into health information content, media enquiries and clinical queries from patients.
• Represent Bowel Cancer UK externally on appropriate panels, advisory groups, at events and in the media.

Role description:

parkrun is looking for a Data Protection Officer to ensure that parkrun processes personal data in a lawful, transparent and secure manner and maintains compliance with applicable data protection laws across the global parkrun movement.

Reporting to the Global Head of Legal and Governance, this role will be responsible for establishing, monitoring and maintaining effective and compliant data protection processes and promoting good practices across the parkrun global movement. The role will sit within a small Legal and Governance team and provide day-to-day assistance and practical, solution-focused advice across the organisation. 

The Data Protection Officer will act independently in carrying out their statutory responsibilities under applicable data protection laws, including the UK GDPR, and will play a key role in embedding a strong culture of data protection and responsible data use across parkrun’s global operations.

A key focus of the role will be working collaboratively with teams across the organisation to build understanding of data protection requirements, deliver effective training and guidance, and support colleagues to take a practical and pragmatic approach to managing data protection risks in their work.

Main responsibilities:

The Data Protection Officer will support data protection and privacy compliance across the parkrun global movement, including responsibility for the following:

• Acting as parkrun’s Data Protection Officer under applicable data protection legislation, advising the organisation on its legal obligations and monitoring compliance with relevant data protection laws and principles

• Developing, reviewing and maintaining data protection policies, procedures and guidelines for the parkrun global movement

• Monitoring the organisation’s compliance with data protection laws, including the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, and providing quarterly reports to the Board Governance and Risk Sub-Committee

• Supporting teams in carrying out Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and embedding privacy into projects, partnerships and new initiatives

• Developing and maintaining key compliance documentation including a Record of Processing Activities (ROPA)

• Leading the Data Governance Group and developing/progressing the organisation’s Data Protection Action Plan

• Advising on international data transfers and cross-border data protection considerations across the parkrun global movement

• Supporting the organisation’s data incident and personal data breach response processes, including assessing notification requirements where relevant 

• Acting as a key contact point for supervisory authorities, including the UK Information Commissioner’s Officer (ICO), and supporting responses to regulatory enquiries where required

Essential experience requirements:

• Significant professional experience in data protection, privacy compliance or information governance roles (typically at least 5 years’ experience)

• Strong working knowledge of UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and core data protection principles

• Experience developing, implementing and maintaining practical data protection policies, procedures and governance frameworks

• Experience working collaboratively with teams across an organisation to embed good data protection practices and support compliant decision-making

Shift Pattern: Part time role covering gaps within the rota which may mean one week working 10.5 hours, and the following week working 21 hours. New Hope is a 24 hour supported accommodation service for adult males with diagnosis of mental health and convictions. As a Forensic Mental Health Recovery Worker you will identify individual resident needs, and provide person centred, tailored support to residents to help them overcome their personal challenges and achieve their goals. We support our residents in developing coping strategies and building supportive relationships, with a commitment to professionalism, teamwork, and customer service. 

You will support with tenancy matters proactively, providing responsive support and fostering a positive environment where residents feel secure and valued. You will do this through a combination of producing tailored support plans, activities, and partnership working. You will support us continue to work in a trauma informed way, and create a psychologically informed environment, which supports us in creating a safe, respectful, and responsive environment which puts our people and communities at the forefront. Key Responsibilities Include:

• Build and maintain positive therapeutic relationships with residents, offering both practical assistance and emotional support.
• Equip residents with the necessary skills, experiences, networks, and training to help them transition into semi‑independent or independent living.
• Provide support with personal needs as required by residents.
• Take part in, and encourage residents to engage in, the delivery and development of projects, initiatives, training opportunities, and volunteering activities.
• Manage a caseload of residents, contributing to the creation and review of support plans, risk assessments, and progress reviews.
• Recognise early indicators of declining mental health and implement suitable interventions to prevent crisis situations.
