This post will be responsible for supporting the Financial Controller in all aspects of the financial management of the charity. This post will take an active role in supporting both overseas and UK staff with financial management. The post will also be responsible for producing monthly/quarterly project finance reports both internally and externally. The successful candidate will be an analytical, intelligent accountant who will provide high quality support for a range of teams across the organisation. They will have the ability and communication skills to build strong working relationships at all levels across the organisation, including non-finance staff. The successful candidate will have at least two years’ experience working in a similar role and will preferably be at least part qualified.

Role Summary

The role involves securing funding from various sources, including trusts, corporations, and individuals, to support the charity’s mission. This includes developing and maintaining strong donor relationships, managing a portfolio of donors, and managing fundraising pipelines.

Key Objectives:

• As a member of the Fundraising team, you will work across all parts of the fundraising process, from prospect research all the way through to the fundraising ask.

Fundraising Objectives:

• Develop a high value pipeline of prospects and funders which has a balanced approach across acquisition, retention and uplift to meet team targets and which provides the best supporter experience.

• Manage a personal portfolio through all stages of the fundraising cycle, within an overall fundraising team target, demonstrating an understanding of how to mitigate risk, maximise return on investment and give a focus to unrestricted income generation.

• Manage and cultivate prospect and funder relationships in their entirety, with responsibility for planning briefings, proposal writing, stakeholder engagement, reporting, stewardship, delivery, and evaluation.

• Research, prepare, and submit high-quality grant applications to charitable trusts, foundations, and other funding bodies utilising different funder approaches including bids, applications, proposals and EOIs, all delivering high-quality experiences and materials to secure funding. 

• Monitor and report on the progress of fundraising activities and grant applications, providing regular updates to the management team.

• Plan and write bespoke engagement plans (e.g. stewardship reports), including report-writing and impact analysis, and coordinating event and PR milestone activities.

• Work with internal & external stakeholders to develop new projects and ensure donor requirements and engagement opportunities are met.

Team and Operational Objectives:

• Help colleagues and supporters overcome any challenges and maximise their fundraising efforts.

• Manage your time and workload, and utilise our given processes, systems, and parameters to overcome barriers

• Support funder account management and compliance through planning, financial budgeting, and record keeping. 

• Ensure that systems and processes are effective, and that our database is updated and utilised as the central source of information for recording income, supporter interactions and reporting. 

• Ensure all supporters are appropriately thanked and help develop specific supporter journeys.

• Identify potential funding opportunities and contribute to philanthropic discovery exercises across new territories and themes

• Build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders from corporate partners through to community groups.

Person Specification

Experience (essential)

• Experience in a charity fundraising role.

• A successful track record of building strong internal and external relationships and generating income from a broad range of funders

• Experience in fundraising preferably from Trust and Foundations; both family, corporate and individual, and partnership bid development.

• Experience in all aspects of donor cultivation (research, writing, follow-up, and stewardship), required

• Experience closing gifts at the six-figure level, including complex gifts using a variety of giving vehicles

• Pipeline development and management thereof, to ensure multi year planning and team financial target contributions are reflected.

• Proven track record in achieving financial and non-financial targets and in forecasting/ setting KPI’s

• Experience in identifying and acquiring new business opportunities and creatively retaining long term funder relationships

Management Role

Deputy Manager (Mental Health) - Recovery House

Location: Alum Rock, Birmingham

Salary: £28,982 per annum

Recovery House is a new and innovative service we are launching that meets an important need for people experiencing poor mental health. The service will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing vital support to people in need of short-term crisis accommodation, of up to 7 nights. The service is a partnership with the NHS, who will have a staff presence at all times, and builds on the range of strong collaborations we have with the public sector.

We provide individualised, person-centred services that help people lead fulfilling lives and reach their full potential. Known for our high-quality support, we play a key role in Birmingham's mental health system and collaborate with local organisations to challenge the stigma surrounding mental distress.

About the role

Directly managing two Team Leaders, the Deputy Manager will work as part of a team in our regulated services and is an important role in the delivery of recovery based and prevention services within Birmingham. This post is central to the smooth running of the 24/7 Recovery House.

The Recovery House is commissioned by the Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust and is part of their Urgent Care pathway. Working closely with Operations at Birmingham Mind, the role contributes to effective communication between operational staff and management.

You will support the Service Manager in providing continuous and safe delivery of support at the Recovery House and always ensuring high quality person-centred care. You will ensure that compliance and adherence to CQC standards is upheld by the Recovery Support Workers and Team Leaders and provide updates and reports both internally and externally.

You will provide direction, shared management, and support to the delivery team of 13, which includes 24/7 staffing and support; ensuring we deliver on the aims of crisis intervention and prevention.

The role requires a clear vision of how crisis alternatives can be achieved through highly effective services, and the ability to turn that vision into a reality. You will support the work of the NHS clinical team and liaise with them and ensure that the service can be accessed by service users when they need it and that the house is prepared and ready for new residents.

About you

You will need to be skilful in developing strong relationships with a range of people and be able to hold on to a vision for the future rooted firmly in values and the principles of recovery, whilst accepting that different professions have different skills and contributions to be made.

We are looking for someone who is experienced in delivering services in a CQC regulated residential or supported living environment and has previously managed a team with line management. You will have excellent working knowledge of relevant mental health and other legislation and have had dealings with Safeguarding and Health and Safety.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of and a commitment to the “Recovery” model of mental health support and experienced in delivery services within values and framework. You will be able to manage and lead a team of people to perform to their best, with the ability to work closely with the Service Manager to ensure a high quality of service.

This role will involve working on a rota, including some evenings and weekends.

About the Role

As a lead member of the delivery team, you’ll take the reins on the Senior Club offer for 13–19-year-olds and lead the Young Leaders Programme, ensuring every session is fun, safe, inclusive and bursting with opportunity.

You’ll manage a team of youth workers and volunteers, develop a brilliant weekly programme with input from young people, and help ensure our charity’s impact is measurable, meaningful and sustainable.

This role is equal parts hands-on leadership, strategic thinking, creativity and compassion.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Designing and delivering a vibrant programme for Senior Club sessions

• Leading and developing a team of youth workers and volunteers

• Acting as a Deputy Safeguarding Lead and Youth Zone Duty Manager

• Managing budgets, outcomes, and KPIs to ensure sessions are safe, engaging and impactful

• Supporting our promotional work and community engagement strategy

• Helping to build something special — right from the ground up

About You

We are looking for a passionate, people focussed and natural leader with experience working with young people aged 13–19 in open access settings, that has managed teams and created high-quality youth programmes.

You’ll need to have:

• A professional youth work qualification

• Experience managing staff or volunteers

• A sound understanding of safeguarding and the challenges young people face

• A flexible attitude – evenings, weekends and school holidays are when we shine

• A clear Enhanced DBS check (you will get help with this)

About the Organisation

This is a brand new locally run youth charity, and will be the first Youth Zone in Yorkshire.  It is set to provide thousands of young people with the opportunity to have fun, make new friends, try something new and feel safe. With community centric values and located in the heart of Barnsley, it will be an inspiring place for young people aged 8 – 19, and up to 25 for those with additional needs, to enjoy their leisure time. The building is due to be completed in 2025.

The purpose of the role is to lead an outstanding IT service across the Trust and cultivate a high performing team that supports all staff, people we support and other stakeholders.

Reporting to the Resource Director, the role will be key in supporting the digital transformation agenda, providing IT and data expertise that will enable higher quality of life for adults with learning disabilities and maximise efficiencies within the services that we provide. 

Main Responsibilities   

• Developing the IT strategy in alignment with the Trust wide strategic goals and evolving digital transformation priorities;

• Oversee the Trust’s approach to Cyber security, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practice. Being the subject matter expert for the organisation.

• Oversee the Trust’s data and privacy framework, ensuring compliance with GDPR and other data protection laws and training and educating staff as required on data protection measures; 

• Lead, mentor and develop the IT team of four, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement;

• Prepare and manage the IT department budget, optimising resource allocation to achieve maximum value and efficiency and ensuring the team is equipped with the necessary skills and resources; 

• Oversee the development, implementation and maintenance of the Trust’s IT systems; 

• Providing IT expertise and advice for the software owners across the Charity including supporting the development of management reporting using Power BI;

• Support the development of an environment of digital innovation and best practice, ensuring the use of technologies for the benefit of the diversity of the people we support; 

• Support any technology implementation plans ensuring all technology solutions are project managed effectively. To supports team members to ensure they identify risks, contingency plans and engage with stakeholders for effective collaboration; 

• To lead on procurement and contract negotiations with vendors of IT systems and software providers, ensuring ITTs and contract awards are in line with the Trust policies and value for money is achieved;

• Producing regular reports on KPIs for the IT team and reporting reasons for variances against target

What you’ll bring to the role:   

• Recognised Degree in Business IT or Computer Science related discipline or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience 

• Proven track record in a senior management digital transformation position.

• 6+ years’ digitalisation experience. 

• 5+ years Project Management experience.

• Excellent working knowledge of Power BI 

• Proven track record on delivering complex projects. 

• Experience of having designed, implemented, and evaluated organisational transformation digital solutions and has delivered change that added value to the organisation. 

• Highly effective change agent who engages with senior stakeholders to deliver the digital program to the organisation. 

• Benchmarking skills and identifies best practice and knowledge of the digital landscape of organisations. 

• High degree of budget management experience associated with digital technology design and its adaptation. 

• Has strong relationships with approved vendors and with software suppliers of digital services to ensure effective delivery of digital technologies/systems. 

Location & Travel 

Remote based - Home 

Home-based with regular travel to visit Communities in Hertfordshire, Gloucestershire, Yorkshire, and Worcestershire. Occasional overnight stays will be required. Ideally you will be located within travel corridors of Midlands to London or Manchester to York.

The responsibilities of the Financial Accountant will include:

• Support the production of the GPA Annual Report and Accounts including provision of consolidation returns for Cabinet Office departmental accounts and Whole of Government Accounts
• Maintain and analyse accurate accounting records including preparation and monitoring of Statement of Financial Position reconciliations and accrual and other journals
• Monitor the effectiveness of key controls including those operated by outsourced service providers
• Prepare tax returns to deadlines including monthly VAT return and Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) returns
• Support the delivery of internal and external audits including provision of fully supporting and signposted evidence, monitoring of requests and responding to auditors in a timely way
• Support continuous process efficiencies and improvements across the function
• Build relationships with key staff across Finance and the business in order to maintain effectiveness and relevance during change

Key Skills & Experience 

• Good experience of financial accounting, ideally within a public sector context
• Good knowledge and experience of VAT
• Strong attention to detail and ability to analyse and interpret significant amounts of financial data
• Ability to seek out new information and self-develop
• Experience of using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
• Proficient using Microsoft Excel
