For the UK location, we have hybrid working – a minimum of 40 % of working time is spent face-to-face (London office, external meetings or travel). 60/40 hybrid working at WaterAid means roughly three days wherever you work best and two days together in person.
Salary: Salaries and benefits for different countries will vary in line with the location of the successful candidate and depending on experience. For all country programme locations, we offer a competitive salary package aligned with the local market and candidate experience.

About the team
WASH Technical Effectiveness is part of the Programme Support & Knowledge team (PSK), a key unit of the WaterAid UK International Programmes Department (IPD) operating in 17 African and Asian countries. PSK is a diverse and motivated group of 20+ technical specialists and advisors, passionate about bringing sustainable WASH to the world’s poorest and most marginalised people. PSK leads and supports organisation-wide programme learning and knowledge management, collating and disseminating programme knowledge and facilitating knowledge exchange. The team provides technical advisory expertise and fosters and supports internal and external programme and technical partnerships and networks.
About the role
As our Health Senior Advisor, you will provide and coordinate targeted technical support to WaterAid WASH and health programming and work closely with Country Programmes and partners, regional and global teams to drive sustainable change.
In this role, you will:
- Provide in-depth strategic and technical advisory support on WASH and health integration, WASH in health care facilities, health systems and programming, public health, environmental health, and/or other inter-related topics such as nutrition, cholera, neglected tropical diseases, maternal and child health, infection prevention and control, for high quality WASH programming in both urban and rural, low-income settings, including households, schools, health care facilities and/or other relevant public places, incorporating WaterAid’s and the sector’s leading practices, innovations and methods.
- Provide high quality, detailed technical analysis and advisory support to project design, inception, implementation, troubleshooting, monitoring, and/or assessments.
- Co-lead capturing of organisational programme knowledge and experience on health-related topics.
- Support country, regional and global colleagues to develop a consistent understanding and application of health-related technical considerations into WaterAid's core programme work, and in applying relevant guidance, standards and considerations to their specific context.
- Support fundraising, external engagement, and communications
- Champion WaterAid’s commitment to equity, inclusion and safeguarding.
To be successful, you will need:
- Strong technical experience in WASH and health integration, WASH in health care facilities, health systems and programming, public health, environmental health, and/or other inter-related topics such as nutrition, cholera, neglected tropical diseases, maternal and child health, infection prevention and control, across different settings, demonstrated through a progressive career record.
- A relevant post-Graduate degree or equivalent work experience.
- Strong experience in offering technical assistance, consulting, and/or advisory services to empower and to develop capacities.
- Ability to handle highly specialised, unusual, and challenging technical assignments, resolve complex issues in practical and imaginative ways.
- Strong writing ability in English. Experienced in producing practical knowledge products targeting needs of diverse audiences.
- Organised and efficient. Demonstrated ability to drive tasks forward to completion in a timely manner while maintaining high quality.
- Solid IT skills, particularly with core Microsoft Office software.
- Ability to travel internationally up to 30%.
Although not essential, we’d prefer you to have:
- Relevant technical experience in systems strengthening, sustainable development, water, sanitation, hygiene, behaviour change, gender, inclusion, environment and/or other WASH-related topics.
- Working knowledge in Portuguese

As part of the Fundraising, Brand and External Communications team within the Operations and Income Generation Network, you will be instrumental in building brand understanding and consideration to support fundraising growth. You’ll champion the value of brand and creative content across the organisation, leading with a positive, adaptable and resilient mindset. An optimistic and approachable leader, you will foster an inclusive, collaborative environment where ideas can thrive and challenges are met with creativity and professionalism.

About You
You are an experienced creative, content or brand leader with a strong track record of delivering impactful work for high-profile, purpose-led organisations. You will bring significant expertise in developing content strategies and leading creative output across complex environments. You are confident managing multi-channel brand campaigns end-to-end, working across in-house teams, freelancers and agencies to deliver high-quality, audience-focused content.
You have proven experience of leading and developing high-performing teams, setting clear direction through vision, strategy and measurable objectives. Comfortable operating in large, complex organisations, you build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and know how to navigate complexity to get things done. You are highly organised, with strong project management skills, and are always looking for ways to improve processes and team efficiency.
A skilled communicator, you bring excellent presentation, copywriting, editing and proofreading abilities, underpinned by exceptional attention to detail. You are confident leading meetings and working groups, and able to influence and engage a wide range of audiences. You keep a close eye on external trends and best practice, using insight and inspiration to continuously evolve creative approaches and raise standards.

- Lead the creative vision and direction for all visual and written content, ensuring a consistent and compelling brand experience across all channels.
- Develop and deliver an insight-led creative and content strategy that meets audience needs and drives engagement.
- Oversee creative production processes, championing excellence, accessibility and diversity, while continuously improving how the team works.
- Act as a brand expert and consultant, building organisational understanding, safeguarding brand integrity and supporting partnerships, campaigns and new initiatives.
- Shape and deliver impactful multi-channel brand campaigns, including leading flagship activity such as Save a Life September.
- Strengthen and scale the real-life storytelling programme, ensuring a consistent pipeline of powerful, ethical and safeguarded stories.
- Build strong relationships across the organisation, developing tools, guidance and partnerships that enable teams and volunteers to deliver high-quality, on-brand content.
- Lead, coach and develop the Creative Content team, while managing agencies, budgets, performance and contributing to wider strategic planning and reporting.
