Senior Marketing & Communications Officer

The Science Council is seeking a dynamic Senior Marketing and Communications Officer to join its engagement and policy team. The post-holder will be responsible for leading and executing impactful communications and marketing initiatives with our members and external stakeholders. The role is pivotal in shaping the organisation’s voice, enhancing brand visibility, and driving engagement across multiple platforms.  

The Science Council is a charity and membership organisation that brings the science professions together and provides professional registration for scientists, science technicians and science teachers. Engaging with member organisations, potential members, science employers, partner organisations and others is central to all our work. The engagement team makes sure that we communicate with them effectively, host events that are relevant to them, have influence on their behalf, and help them improve equity, diversity and inclusion.

Salary: £34-36k

About the role

We are seeking a motivated and passionate Leadership Giving Officer to cultivate and solicit gifts from alumni who have the capacity to make donations to the university of between £1,000 and £50,000.

You will be working in an exciting and varied role that blends marketing and fundraising skills as part of the Leadership Giving team within the Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement department. We are a warm, collaborative, and enthusiastic team with a passion for innovative fundraising for meaningful impact.

The postholder will support fundraising for exciting and impactful initiatives across the university. The primary responsibility of the role is to manage two of the flagship Leadership Giving Programmes: the Kingsmaker Guild and Key to King’s. About The Role
We are recruiting for a Direct Response Marketing Officer to join on a full-time, permanent contract, working 35 hours per week.

As Direct Response Marketing Officer you will manage and deliver multi-channel marketing campaigns, driving participation for our sports, challenge, and mass event program. By working with different teams across the organisation and our media agency and external stakeholders, you will brief, optimise and evaluate marketing campaigns.

You will monitor the results of communications, make recommendations to help inform and improve future campaigns and provide timely and accurate updates on key campaign metrics to senior stakeholders.

Every day will be different, for example, the role can include writing compelling marketing copy for a campaign, working with internal and external designers to develop creative ideas, or producing a post-campaign report.

About you
Joining us, you’ll have experience of planning, developing and delivering paid, multi-channel marketing campaigns. CDMT is the industry body for world-class professional schools, conservatoires and awarding organisations in the performing arts, and we are a strong advocate on behalf of the sector.

The Director of the CDMT plays a strategic role in performing arts training, education and assessment nationally and manages the staff and resources of an organisation of UK-wide standing. The CDMT is financed primarily by membership subscriptions. As this source of income is restricted, the successful applicant will need to demonstrate a strategic business sense and a successful income-driven record that will enable the CDMT to create, diversify and take full advantage of developing opportunities.

The Director must be able to liaise effectively with all sectors of the dance, drama, music and musical theatre education communities.  They will have wide knowledge and experience of arts education at all stages of development from entry level, through Further/Higher Education to post-graduate level, and will also require an understanding of qualification frameworks in the UK. The role will focus  on growing the value of funding from large trusts and foundations globally, as well as from corporate foundations and institutional funders via consortium partnerships with larger conservation actors.

The role will oversee grant and contract management with existing organisational and institutional partnerships, as well as grow this portfolio through developing a robust pipeline of new opportunities, finding creative ways to secure visibility and first meetings, developing relationships, compelling funding applications and ensuring strong contract management oversight.

The role will lead a team of two, work collaboratively with fundraising colleagues based in the US and UK to secure visibility with and develop strong long-term partnerships with new Trusts and Foundations; and work closely with colleagues in Kenya to ensure strong project delivery and grant management. Responsibilities include:

• Lead the implementation of the Trusts & Foundations (T&Fs) programme with a particular focus on growing the portfolio of large T&Fs in the USA, UK and European markets;
• Work with fundraising colleagues across priority markets and with communications colleagues, using innovative and proactive approaches to business development and relationship building to unlock visibility opportunities and develop relationships with new prospects; in order to develop and maintain a strong pipeline of high-value funding opportunities.  
• Continue to oversee the current ‘programme funding’ portfolio which includes existing institutional funding partnerships and corporate foundation relationships in Kenya, ensuring that ongoing and new opportunities where they exist are capitalised on.
• Collaborate closely with and provide technical expertise to Ol Pejeta’s Project Implementation function in Kenya to develop and embed ‘programme funding’ systems, policies, processes, to ensure that the organisation works to the highest standards in grant management;

Key Activities

• Research and share trends and intelligence on T&Fs, and develop relationships that strategically position the organisation to mobilise resources from new and existing donors.

Support effective grant & risk management and compliance

• Support the development and implementation of improved business policies to facilitate improved management of and accountability for T&F funding and other larger institutional partnerships;
• Provide quality assurance and technical backstopping on reporting and general compliance, in line with organisational and donor requirements;
• Guide the negotiation of strategic grants/contracts to ensure the organisation signs up to appropriate contractual requirements;

Education, Language & Qualifications

• Bachelors or equivalent in a relevant field preferably Fundraising / International Development;

• Relevant experience working in an international NGO or philanthropy environment with diverse workforce;

This role works within a dedicated team to assess grant applications from charities and organisations applying to the Motability Foundation for grant-funding to support their work in the disability transport sector.

Job Purpose

We’re making it easier for people who use our services to find and connect to the support they need. And we're looking at ways to make our support more accessible and personalised to meet people’s individual needs, no matter where they are on their MS journey. 

We’re creating services that are flexible so that, when someone's circumstance changes, we’ll change too. As demand for our services grows, we’ll always be ready to support everyone who needs our help.  

Our new structure and our new ways of working will bring all of these services together under one delivery model launching next year. We're creating a new virtual support hub to bring together everything our community needs to manage their MS or support and care for someone living with MS.

Our Services Development team are responsible for: UK-wide service development and experience design, community development 

Our Head of Service Development will be: 

• leading the development and continuous improvement of our UK-wide and community-based services, ensuring they are inclusive, accessible, and aligned with organisational strategy.  And also working alongside our Digital Services Product Manager on all of our digital services. 
• overseeing the full-service development lifecycle, using evidence to drive continuous improvement and ensuring that lived experience is embedded into design. 
• ensuring that our new or improved services are operationally viable. Supporting our Fundraising to ensure that new services are funded. 
• Developing and managing our service development roadmap.  
• With the Director of Service Development, acting as an organisational lead for coproduction / lived experience. Driving best practice and upskilling in coproduction and lived experience involvement and participation across the organisation.  

We’re looking for:

• significant experience of leading coproduction and service experience design, and ability to support others to deliver these activities. 
• ability to lead organisational discussions and be an authoritative champion based on subject expertise (for coproduction, service development and innovation). 
• experience of effectively implementing change and improvement across an organisation, and ability to drive continuous improvement across a department. 
• experience of leading service development and managing the service lifecycle (including horizon scanning, research, coproduction, piloting and using monitoring and evaluation data to make improvements), ideally in a health or third sector setting. 
• substantial experience of people management, in a team of similar size or complexity. Demonstrable ability to lead, manage and support others to deliver high-quality results. 
• Proven experience in policy implementation, compliance and risk governance (and with an understanding of Safeguarding and demonstratable experience implementing Safeguarding policies).

Our Head of Volunteering is a key leadership role in our Services and Support directorate, as part of our Services Development function.

We rely heavily on our volunteers to support our mission and improve the lives of people affected by MS. Our volunteers who generously donate their time are critical to our success. 

Our volunteers play an important role in: 

• fundraising events 
• delivering resources to people affected by MS 
• advocating for MS research and policy 
• providing care and support to the MS community 

Our Head of Volunteering will be: 

• leading on the development and implementation of the organisation's volunteering strategy
• growing organisational capacity and capability in volunteering, maximising the unique contribution volunteering can make to support the MS Society's strategic aims. 
• leading a team who will support our volunteer journey, volunteer experience and volunteering systems, developing a high-performing and motivated culture within teams. 
• ensuring volunteer-related policies, products and procedures are aligned with sector best practice and opportunities are increased to support the engagement and retention of volunteers, leading to an increase in flexible volunteering roles and volunteers. 
• seeking new opportunities to grow and develop volunteer capacity, engagement and impact. 

We’re looking for: 

• extensive experience of development and successful implementation of a volunteering strategy or plan 
• a proven track record of operating at a senior level within a volunteering function or organisation, engaging significant numbers of volunteers. 
• significant experience in developing and implementing volunteer journeys, policies and processes focussed on improving the volunteer experience. 
• substantial experience of successfully leading and managing a large and geographically dispersed teams of staff and volunteers, embedding change and fostering a high performing culture.
