This role exists to function as the organisation’s primary “frontline discovery engine,” scanning a wide range of public sources—including media platforms, social networks, interviews, documentaries, podcasts, books, advocacy spaces, and community forums—to uncover individuals who have either publicly shared their experiences or are visibly positioned within ongoing social, cultural, or institutional narratives.
The Research Story Scout is responsible for recognising not just individual stories, but also broader story ecosystems, including repeated patterns of lived experience, underrepresented voices, emerging testimonies, and whistleblower disclosures that may not yet have been formally documented or widely circulated.
A key purpose of this role is to convert scattered public information into structured, actionable story leads that can be passed efficiently to the Outreach Team for ethical and appropriate engagement.
The role also ensures that potential stories are identified early, before they become widely saturated or lost in mainstream attention cycles, enabling the organisation to engage responsibly, respectfully, and at the right stage of the individual’s willingness to share.
Ultimately, this role ensures the organisation maintains a consistent flow of credible, relevant, and timely story opportunities by continuously scanning the public landscape and translating discovery into structured, usable intelligence for outreach and engagement.
About the role:
Story Scouts spend their time locating individuals who have publicly shared their experiences or indicated a willingness to discuss their story.

Important Eligibility Note:
This is an onsite, self-funded international volunteer and internship placement located in Ghana. This opportunity is open ONLY to international applicants traveling from outside the African continent (including Europe, North America, South America, Asia, Australia, and Antarctica). Because SFLIG Volunteers operates on a sustainable, grassroots model, participants must fully fund their own experience, including international flights, visa arrangements, and the program fee which covers safe community housing, daily meals, airport pickup, and 24/7 onsite support. Local applications cannot be considered for this international framework.
Ready to step out of your comfort zone, travel with true purpose, and change young lives? Join our close-knit team in beautiful Ghana to inspire eager students, bridge vital educational gaps, and experience an unforgettable cultural immersion.
At SFLIG Volunteers, we don't believe in standard, sterile office jobs—we believe in human connection. In many of our partner communities just outside Accra, local classrooms are overflowing, and passionate teachers are stretched thin. They don't just need an extra pair of hands; they need your unique energy, your background, and your global perspective to help open up the world for their students.
This is your opportunity to break away from the everyday routine, build unmatched international leadership skills, and see the tangible, smiling results of your hard work every single morning.
Your Typical Day in the Classroom
This role is active, vibrant, and highly collaborative. You won’t just be sitting at a desk; you will be an active spark in the school community:
The Co-Pilot: Work hand-in-hand with local headteachers to make core subjects like English conversation, basic Mathematics, and General Sciences come alive through interactive games and discussions.
The Creative Spark: Bring your own hobbies across the globe! Whether you love drawing, music, painting, or sports, you will design and lead engaging workshops that build child confidence and creativity.
The Mentor: Provide crucial, patient one-on-one reading and arithmetic support to bright children who have fallen behind and just need someone to believe in them.
Who You Are
We care far more about your heart, your drive, and your empathy than a piece of paper. You are the perfect fit if:
You have a deep-seated desire to travel, explore new cultures respectfully, and give back to grassroots communities.
You are patient, highly adaptable, and ready to embrace a vibrant, slow-paced, and welcoming new environment.
No formal teaching qualifications or TEFL certificates are required. We provide all the training and tools; you just need to bring the enthusiasm!
The SFLIG Volunteers Experience: What's Included
We treat our international volunteers like family from the moment they apply:
Total Support Network: From your comprehensive pre-departure prep to airport pickup and local orientation, our dedicated team guides you every step of the way.
The Perfect Work-Life Balance: Your projects run Monday through Friday, giving you long weekends to explore Ghana’s beautiful coastal beaches, historic forts, and bustling local markets with your fellow volunteers.
True 'Akwaaba' Hospitality: Live and work safely embedded within an authentic Ghanaian community, building lifelong global friendships.
Cultural Experience & Weekend Tours
Volunteering with SFLIG is a full cultural immersion. Beyond your hours at your placement, you will experience the famous warmth and hospitality of Ghana through local language lessons, traditional cooking sessions, and community gatherings.
On the weekends, you will have the opportunity to join coordinated group excursions to explore Ghana's rich history and breathtaking landscapes. Depending on your placement region, weekend tours can include:
Walking the canopy bridges at Kakum National Park.
Exploring the historic Cape Coast and Elmina Castles.
Visiting the vibrant cultural markets of Kumasi.

Do you share our vision of a society in which women and girls are safe, healthy and equal? Do you believe passionately in the importance of women’s and girls’ organisations and feel frustrated at the amount of funding and support that they receive? Would you enjoy contributing to the development of an ambitious organisation that aims to make a difference?
If so, you could be the person we’re looking for to help support Rosa through the next stage of our journey. This is an exciting time to join us as we implement our ambitious new strategy. We’re planning to expand our work in funding women’s and girls’ organisations, building the capacity of the sector and inspiring more investment into it – with the objective of building a sector that is thriving, resilient and sustainable.
Our current Treasurer is stepping down from the role, and we are therefore looking to replace her. We need a qualified accountant with the time and skills to provide strategic financial oversight and governance, as well as supporting our Head of Finance and Operations’ work to ensure that the charity’s finances are on a stable footing and that appropriate policies, processes and controls are in place.
Rosa takes its commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion extremely seriously, recognising the value that this adds to our success. Rosa already reaps the benefits of having a diverse board and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds and life experiences. We are particularly keen to hear from people from Black and racially minoritised communities, LGBTQ+ people, disabled people, and people with broad educational backgrounds and life experiences. Lastly, as a UK-wide grant maker, we would be keen to have more trustees residing in and/or with personal experience of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
We don’t need you to have previous experience of a Treasurer role, not do you need to have worked in the charity sector before – we would in fact welcome applicants with private sector experience. We are looking for individuals who really care about the work we do and can contribute to the work of the Board. We are committed to supporting you to develop new skills in your role as our Treasurer, for you to take beyond your time with us.
If joining the Rosa board sounds interesting, we would love to hear from you.

Chair of the Board — United St Saviour's Charity
For almost 500 years, we've supported Southwark's communities. Now we're looking for a new Chair to help lead our next chapter — including delivering the RIBA Stirling Prize-winning legacy of Appleby Blue into a bold ten-year strategy.
United St Saviour's Charity is a place-based community investor in Southwark, providing almshouses, grant-funding and community programmes that build resilience and connection across the borough. Over the last decade we've nearly doubled our housing provision and delivered Appleby Blue — a social housing development for older people that went on to win the RIBA Stirling Prize, the UK's most prestigious architecture award.
This role is for you if:
What you'll do
As Chair, you'll lead our Board of Trustees and work in close partnership with our Chief Executive, Martyn Craddock, providing support, guidance and constructive challenge to help the organisation deliver its strategic plan. You'll ensure the charity remains well governed, financially sustainable, and focused on delivering lasting impact for the people of Southwark — while acting as an ambassador for our values, purpose and reputation, including in situations that require urgent decision-making.
You'll be joining at a pivotal moment: we're scaling up our housing development pipeline, delivering a new Community Investment Strategy for 2025–2030, and increasingly being asked to share what we've learned with other boroughs and housing providers as our national influence grows.
Location and time commitment
Based in the London Borough of Southwark — Board and committee meetings take place at our offices and almshouses. This is a voluntary role (reasonable expenses met) requiring approximately 2–3 days a month, including four Board meetings a year, a Strategy and Reflection Day, and membership of one to two committees.
How to apply
Send a CV and covering letter to Alison Benzimra, Director of Strategy and Operations by 14 October 2026, setting out why you're interested and how your skills, experience and background fit what we're looking for. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview with a panel drawn from the Board in 23 November 2026.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

In this role, you would be coordinating the daily planning and delivery of activities for young refugees in the sites in which we're operating in the Epirus region of Northern Greece.
The programme usually consists of English classes, thematic and social and emotional learning workshops and excursions. The programme engages children between the ages of 8 and 16.
For this role, you would initially work as a Youth Programme team member so that you could develop an understanding of the programme, the people involved, and the organisation as a whole.
Your role would include:
Coordinating, delegating, and managing a team of 2-5 team members in the daily operations of the Youth Programme
Directly supervising and supporting team members, providing feedback to ensure the quality of the programme remains high
Delivering effective inductions to transfer key skills/knowledge to team members
Developing the current programme in coordination with the Education Manager and Youth Programme team members
Assessing the impact and effectiveness of the programme in line with its objectives
Planning and delivering effective and dynamic educational and outdoor activities, within a theme-based curriculum
Training new team members in appropriate behavioural management techniques

A nurturing and collaborative working environment. We work hard to help our team members grow; investing in personal and professional development.
Accommodation in a shared house

After completion of a three-month trial, if you commit long-term, a small monthly expenses refund
In certain periods of the year, demand is extremely high, and the shared houses might be full. If you have the means to pay for your own accommodation, please let us know. We would still be happy to host you if space is available. However, in a situation where the shared houses are full, this would allow us to offer an opportunity to someone that cannot afford to pay rent.
Looking for an internship?
If, because of your degree or for any other reason, you would like to have your period at Second Tree credited as an internship, just apply to the vacancy that you’re interested in and mention this. We have agreements with several universities across Europe, and in many other cases, these agreements can be developed on an ad hoc basis.
We challenge the biases that make us see refugees as “the other”. We change the way society perceives refugees, and refugees perceive society.
