Refugee Support Volunteer

Location: Folkestone, Kent (Wednesdays 12:00pm to 4:00pm) or Dartford, Kent (Fridays 10:00am to 1:00pm)
Time commitment: One half-day per week

Preferred commitment: We welcome applications from anyone able to volunteer regularly. While there is no minimum commitment, volunteers who stay for six months or longer often have the greatest impact and consistency for the refugees we support and allows volunteers to gain the most from their experience.

Expenses: Travel and lunch expenses reimbursed in line with our volunteer expenses policy.

Help Refugees Build Confidence and Independence

The Refugee Council is looking for compassionate and enthusiastic volunteers to support refugees who have recently been resettled in Kent. This is a rewarding opportunity to help people rebuild their lives, develop confidence and become more independent as they settle into their new communities.

You do not need previous experience of working with refugees. We are looking for people who are patient, supportive, reliable and committed to helping others thrive. Full training and ongoing support will be provided.

About the Role

As a Refugee Support Volunteer, you will work alongside our Kent Resettlement Team, helping refugees gain the confidence and skills needed to access services independently and participate fully in community life.

You may support people to:

• Learn how to use digital services and online accounts
• Access NHS, Universal Credit and immigration-related online systems
• Build confidence using email, websites and mobile apps
• Understand appointment booking systems and telephone services
• Discover local activities, services and community groups
• Develop social connections and reduce isolation
• Build confidence communicating directly with services and organisations

This is a person-centred role focused on encouraging independence through coaching and guided support rather than doing things for people.

We offer engaging online and face-to-face training, expenses and have policies and processes to help volunteers get the most out of their time with us.

About the opportunity

Hope and Vision Communities is a Reading-based charity supporting people as they move on from residential addiction treatment. We provide safe, family-sized homes where residents can continue their recovery, build relationships, develop independence and find their place in the community. Alongside a place to live, we offer practical and emotional support, opportunities to work, volunteer, retrain and socialise, and a community where people can feel supported for as long as they need it.

We’re looking for a volunteer with a passion for video and storytelling to help us share more of this work. From community activities and events to the everyday moments that show what recovery and rebuilding a life can look like, you’ll help us create content that gives people a better understanding of Hope and Vision and the difference our community can make.

The main focus will be video editing, including short-form content for social media and longer-form videos for platforms such as YouTube and our website. There will also be opportunities to help us tell the wider Hope and Vision story, including our work supporting people as they move towards independent living and our plans to develop our communities further.

If you also have skills or an interest in graphic design or website front-end development, we’d be very happy to make use of those skills. These are an added bonus rather than a requirement — what matters most is your ability to create engaging content and your interest in helping us share the work we do.

What you could be working on

Depending on what’s happening across the charity, your work might include:

• Turning footage from community activities, events and interviews into engaging videos
• Editing short videos for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube Shorts
• Producing longer-form videos for YouTube and our website
• Adding captions, music, graphics and simple visual effects
• Creating different versions of videos for different social media platforms
• Helping us make the most of existing footage and content
• Coming up with ideas for new video content and ways of telling our stories
• Working with members of the team to understand what we want each piece of content to achieve

If you have ideas about how we could make our content more interesting, accessible or effective, we’d love to hear them.

Additional creative skills

There may also be opportunities to get involved in other areas if these are skills you enjoy using.

· Graphic design could include creating social media posts, thumbnails, posters, campaign materials or other digital assets.

· Website/front-end skills could include helping improve the appearance and usability of our website, creating or adjusting page layouts, or making small front-end changes using technologies such as HTML, CSS or JavaScript.

These areas are entirely optional. The core requirement is an interest and ability in video editing.

What would suit this role?

Whether you’re looking to develop your experience, take on a new creative project, or simply enjoy making videos and would like to use your skills to support a local charity, we’d love to hear from you. You don’t need to have worked for a charity before.

We’d particularly like to hear from you if you:

• Have experience with video editing software such as CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or similar
• Understand what makes video content engaging on social media

Experience with graphic design, motion graphics, photography, branding or front-end web development would be a bonus.

What you’ll get from volunteering with us

This is a chance to create content that reflects the work we do at Hope and Vision Communities and the people and communities we support. You’ll be working with real footage from our activities, events and projects, helping to show the difference our work makes in Reading and the surrounding communities.

As well as developing your video editing skills and building your portfolio, you’ll help us share more of what we do with a wider audience. Appointment Process While this recruitment process is being undertaken with the intention of identifying Dorothy House's next Chair, appointment as Chair cannot take place until the individual has first been appointed as a Trustee. In this role, you will offer insight into the patient journey across the evolving cleft care pathway, strengthen relationships between CLAPA and clinical teams and provide clinical guidance to inform our campaigns and initiatives. As a fundraising volunteer, we will support you every step of the way to ensure your time at Cats Protection is a positive and rewarding one. Whatever time you can give really does make a big difference We have lots of exciting activities to choose from for example attending a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, handling administrative tasks, or contributing to the development of new fundraising ideas. Whatever your skill set, this role could be perfect for you!

It is a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following:

o face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping with fundraising events, attending supermarket collections and monitoring collection boxes.

o online fundraising – assisting with online appeals, increasing social media engagement to maximise funds raised.

o bringing new ideas! - We always love to come up with new ideas to raise funds for cats and we’d love to help bring yours to life.

o engaging with your local branch and Fundraising Hub and feeling like an integral part of the team.

Help cats in the Ayrshire area!

As a charity we can help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations from our supporters. Raising funds is a key role in our charity, helping to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need.

As a fundraising volunteer, we will support you every step of the way to ensure your time at Cats Protection is a positive and rewarding one. Whatever time you can give really does make a big difference We have lots of exciting activities to choose from for example attending a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, handling administrative tasks, or contributing to the development of new fundraising ideas. Whatever your skill set, this role could be perfect for you!

It is a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following:

o face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping with fundraising events, attending supermarket collections and monitoring collection boxes.

o online fundraising – assisting with online appeals, increasing social media engagement to maximise funds raised.

o bringing new ideas! - We always love to come up with new ideas to raise funds for cats and we’d love to help bring yours to life.

o engaging with your local branch and Fundraising Hub and feeling like an integral part of the team.

You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge though Cats Protection’s learn online system, providing you with the skills to thrive as a fundraiser.  You’ll also have the chance to meet new people and be part of a dedicated team of volunteers.

Portsmouth Cathedral's Fabric Advisory Committee (FAC) is seeking to recruit two new members to join the existing committee which has expertise in architecture, planning, art, design, and conservation.  We are looking for people with extensive experience and sound judgement who can advise within a complex organisation.  Applications are particularly welcome from those with liturgical, architectural, museum or heritage backgrounds.

The FAC is responsible to the Cathedrals Fabric Commission for England (CFCE) for the care, conservation and development of the Cathedral and forms part of the planning application for the Grade 1 listed building and its immediate precinct (The Cathedral Green).

As a member of FAC your role will be vital in the oversight of the overall development, conservation and maintenance of the Cathedral building and precinct.   Appointees will, as appropriate, provide determination on applications and advise the Cathedral Chapter (the governing body of a cathedral) in line with the statutory responsibility of the Committee under the Care of Cathedrals Measure, remaining true to the values of the Cathedral and its role as a living place of worship. 

Term of Office
Members are appointed for up to five years with the option for reappointment.  All members are re-appointed every five years.  The current Quinquennial runs until 2031.

Time Commitment
FAC meets a minimum of three times a year. Meetings are normally held on mornings in October, February and May in person but with an online option. The committee will need to work more regularly when major capital works or repairs are planned. Ad hoc meetings and support through working groups and/or support to the executive team may be required.

Remuneration

Membership of FAC is an unpaid role.  Reasonable travel and out of pocket expenses will be paid in accordance with the Cathedral’s Expenses policy.

Safeguarding

The Cathedral takes the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults very seriously, and practices Safer Recruitment for all roles (both paid and voluntary). Members of our committees are expected to undertake any safeguarding training provided by the Church of England and Diocese pertinent to their role and the Cathedral records and manages the checks and courses taken to ensure that training is refreshed as required.

We are committed to ensuring our committees are diverse and representative of the community we serve. There is no requirement to be a Christian, but appointees should be able to understand the ethos and structures of the Church of England, and work in sympathy with the Cathedral’s mission.

Interviews will be held on a rolling basis.
