Fundraising volunteers wanted to help East London Waterworks Park reach its funding goals

East London Waterworks Park is working to acquire a 14-acre, concreted-over depot on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, and to transform it into a ‘brownfield rainforest’ with wild-swimming pools and creative learning spaces for the local community. We are showcasing an environment-first, community-led approach to land ownership that will help nature and people thrive together, revolutionising the way we think about green and blue spaces in cities.

Our Crowdfunder raised over half a million pounds towards buying the land, but we are waiting for the landowner to make decisions about the use of the site. Whilst we wait, we need to raise money for the other work we are carrying out. We have an exciting programme of community projects and work coming up, including carrying out biodiverse transformations on other sites in London.

If you have experience of planning or running fundraising campaigns and would like to get involved with a local charity, we would love to hear from you. Perhaps you are buzzing with ideas of how to raise money or are keen to get stuck in and help to make some events happen. Maybe you are a good writer and seller of ideas and would like to join our mini team of funding bid writers. We would especially love to hear from you if you have experience of writing funding applications.

If you are a professional fundraiser and would like to help but are short on time, we would still love for you to get in touch. Even if you are unable to get deeply involved, we would appreciate one-off or ongoing advice.

We meet once a fortnight online on a Thursday evening 

The NIAS Creative Campus Events & Digital Administrative Assistant will support the smooth operation, promotion, and growth of the Creative Campus venue.

The role exists to assist with the administration, marketing, and delivery of events and programmes hosted at the venue. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in venue operations, digital promotion, social media marketing, event coordination, and community engagement.

This role is ideal for an energetic and organised individual who enjoys working in a creative environment and is interested in gaining practical experience in events management, digital communications, and creative venue operations management.

The position will work closely with the Venue Coordinator, supporting day-to-day venue administration, event preparation, online promotion, and community outreach.

Key Responsibilities (You will gain practical experience in two or more of the listed areas)

1. Venue Administration Support

Support the venue coordinator with the day-to-day administration of the Creative Campus venue.

Responsibilities include:

• Managing incoming enquiries and bookings
• Maintaining venue booking calendars
• Assisting with venue hire documentation
• Providing reception and guest welcome support
• Assisting with record keeping and administrative tasks

2. Event Operations Support

Assist in the preparation and delivery of events hosted at the venue.

• Assisting with event setup and breakdown
• Welcoming event organisers and guests
• Supporting performers, speakers and facilitators
• Assisting with ticketing and guest registration
• Helping coordinate volunteers and temporary event staff

3. Social Media & Digital Promotion

Support the promotion of Creative Campus activities across digital platforms.

• Updating Instagram, Facebook and other social media platforms
• Creating posts promoting upcoming events
• Capturing photos and short videos during events
• Supporting WhatsApp marketing to regular guests
• Assisting with Eventbrite and event listing updates

4. Website & Digital Content Management

Assist in maintaining the Creative Campus online presence.

• Updating website content using WordPress
• Uploading events to the website calendar
• Supporting digital newsletters and announcements
• Assisting with online promotional campaigns

5. Community Engagement & Partnerships

Support outreach activities to increase venue use and community participation.

• Communicating with artists, performers and community groups
• Supporting outreach to schools, creative organisations and local groups
• Assisting with coordination of creative workshops and programmes

Main Responsibilities

• Since its creation, Quilombo UK has collected a great amount of information, evidence and items through projects, fundraisers, events etc.

• We are looking for a team member to find published materials related to Quilombo UK key objectives and interests, especially cultural and racial diversity, and stereotypes in UK communities. The materials include all types of evidence, articles, journals, newspaper columns, local and global news stories. 

• The researcher will help to collect information that can be used as an evidence base to help inform future activities, and also in exhibitions, workshops, and community events. 

• We are looking for a self-starter who can source, collect, and share relevant materials independently. You will also be working closely with our Professional Development Programme participants in relevant areas such as Marketing and PR.

• Provide written reports as and when required. To undertake additional duties as required for the role.

General tasks

• Contribute to staff meetings and other internal meetings with views and suggestions etc.

Essential:

• You will need to have good written skills and be able to explain concepts and projects concisely and accurately. 

• You will be self-starting and willing to research the various projects that we have carried out and catalogue all the evidence collected.

The Professional Development Programme with Quilombo UK runs over a period of 16 weeks, is UNPAID and requires a minimum of 12 hours commitment per week across Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday.

Upon successful application, our HR team will contact you to arrange an interview. Following a successful interview, we'll initiate the onboarding process by sending you the necessary documents. Once your onboarding and identification documents are received and verified, you'll be invited to a 6-hour HR and System Induction. Do you want to be inspired by the impact of education? Schools across Liverpool are looking for skilled volunteers to support education by becoming school governors.

What will you be doing?

Governing bodies are responsible for the strategic management of a school and will make decisions about a wide range of issues

The core responsibilities involved are:

• Ensuring accountability
• Providing support and challenge to the schools senior leadership team
• Monitoring and evaluating the school’s progress
• Budgetary allocation and control
• Shaping plans for school improvement and overseeing their implementation
• Setting the school’s aims and values
• Appointing senior members of staff including the Head Teacher

The governing body is usually split in to a small number of committees, each responsible for one area such as finance or pupil achievement. These committees will meet separately from the main governing body to discuss relevant issues in more detail. Discussion is then fed back at a full governing body meeting.

A school governing body is made up of representatives from the school, the parents, the local authority and the local community.

What are we looking for?

You don’t need any specific skills or experience to be a school governor. You must be over 18, but you don’t need to be a parent or have experience working in education. Often, it’s the outside perspective you can bring that a school needs.

Professional experience in areas such as HR, finance, law, or project management are all useful to a school. But soft skills such as leadership, communication, and problem solving are also great additions.

What difference will you make?

Governors make decisions that affect schools for years to come. Our recent impact survey found that our volunteers bring £9.9 million worth of value to schools each year, and 9/10 volunteers would recommend being a governor to a friend. 

As a governor, you can visit the school to gain an understanding of the culture and ethos and to get the most out of the role. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet children, parents, and teachers, and see the impact of your work first-hand.

What's in it for the volunteer?

Volunteering as a school governor is a challenging but rewarding role. As part of the governing board, you’ll:

• help schools overcome challenges to ensure a bright future for children in your community
• work collaboratively with people from different backgrounds, challenging your own perspective and broadening your network
• gain experience outside of your job description and skills you can bring back to work

You will need to complete an application form and will have an interview with the school. DBS checks will be taken up.
