Treasurer for Age Concern Twyford & District
Do you have an interest in helping our charity that supports older people in our community?
If you have a head for financial matters, you could add to and assist our trustees’ management of our finances.
Initially set up in 1988, we are an independent local charity (Charitable Incorporated Organisation No. 11163722) that promotes and maintains independent living for older residents in and around our local community. We are not affiliated with any similar organisations, but work closely with other Wokingham Borough-based charities and support organisations.
We provide a Day Centre with activities, lunches and optional take-home meals, activities including arts, singing and dancing, plus a range of support services including assistance with form-filling, handypersons and a listening ear to support families.
In 2024/25, our income was £250k, a small rise on previous years, and our services and facilities remain well-used and very well-appreciated in our community.
The Role
We are a small and collaborative trustee team, working closely with the staff in the centre to provide a service to our local community. Our Board includes some people with experience and skills in the services we provide to older people or other professions, and we’d expect trustees to have empathy with our cause and our beneficiaries.
Although we’d welcome your financial qualification, that’s not a requirement, as our finances aren’t complex. An understanding of how charity finance works would be beneficial of course, with the ability to communicate financial information clearly, especially to other trustees, being important. Support from our employees is always available, as they will be dealing with the day-to-day finances.
You don’t necessarily need prior experience of charity trusteeship, as advice from local charity-support organisations is always available. Full induction to our organisation will be provided, plus specialist help as a new trustee, including access to external training.
We are a charity not a commercial business, but we apply business principles to governing our organisation. We are looking for fresh expertise and experience from a variety of backgrounds to our charity. We want to expand the diversity of our Board and strongly welcome applications from people from less-represented groups.
The focus of a trustee role is strategic, and trustees will not be expected to get involved in the organisation’s operations on a day-to-day basis; however, contact and liaison with other trustees and employees is expected.
We ask for about five hours per month, which includes all meetings, discussions, etc., although that time commitment will rise at year-end and for our AGM.
You will need access to digital communications, as some our charity’s business is run that way.
This appointment is being assisted for us by involve Community Services, a charity-support organisation, who can supply you with a detailed Role Description and Skills Specification, and offer advice about trusteeship, even assist your application. Click "Apply Now" below to find out more.

Do you believe everyone should have the chance to connect with nature and experience the beauty of the Peak District?
Then come and join this small, but mighty charity board as a Trustee, to help protect the Peak District for future generations. We're particularly keen to connect with people who can bring their commercial expertise and acumen to the Board.
Location: Hybrid between Peak District/Bakewell HQ* and online
*Possibly Manchester/Sheffield depending on most accessible locations
Time Commitment: Approx. 4 Board meetings + 1 strategy day per year
Term: 3 years initially, renewable thereafter
Renumeration: Voluntary, with reasonable expenses covered
The Peak District National Park Foundation is a growing charity with a big bold mission: to make the Peak District a thriving home for nature and people. A place which is welcoming to all and cared for by everyone.
Since launching in 2019, they've successfully raised over £2.2 million to make the Park greener, wilder and more accessible. Connecting thousands of young people to nature, restoring rare habitats and helping communities discover the power of the outdoors.
Nature loss, climate change and unequal access to the countryside are urgent challenges. At the same time, public funding for National Parks has fallen dramatically. That's where this vital work comes in - and where you could too.
About the role
As a Trustee, you'll help shape the Foundation's next chapter. You'll guide strategy, champion the mission and ensure they're delivering lasting impact for nature and people. You'll join a passionate, collaborative Board, supporting a nimble, high-performing team that's already making a big difference on the ground.
You don't need prior trustee experience - what matters most is your enthusiasm, curiosity and belief in the power of nature to connect and inspire. You'll receive a full induction and training.
Who we're looking for
Having just been through a successful round of Board recruitment, we're confident we now have robust representation from the charity and public sector, and are now looking for commercial and business skills to strengthen the Board's make-up.
A deep love or connection to the Peak District is desirable, but not essential - you may simply have a strong passion to see our natural spaces protected for generations to come.
Who should apply?
We're very happy to consider applications from those living outside the Park who can demonstrate their passion for protecting it (providing you're comfortable attending some Board meetings in-person, with expenses paid).
We also want to emphasise that candidates from all backgrounds are warmly encouraged to apply - in particular, Black, Asian, and global majority candidates, disabled people, those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, younger candidates (under 40) and first-time trustees.
We're looking for individuals who will culturally add to the organisation, rather than simply fit an existing mould.
Why apply
This is your opportunity to share your time and expertise to make a meaningful impact on one of the UK's most iconic landscapes. Serving as a Trustee is a powerful way to show your support and help shape its future.
How to apply
A short CV or profile is a great first step, but please also feel free to get in touch to receive a copy of the recruitment pack or an informal conversation. Our Regional Director, Amelia Lee, is leading on this opportunity.
Deadline: 9am on Friday 5th February, but please do get in touch ASAP if interested as we'd love to start conversations as soon as possible.

Our challenge
Brain tumours do not discriminate and they do not respect boundaries. They can strike anyone, at any age. And they strike quickly.
The Support Team at The Brain Tumour Charity are aiming to address the clear gap in emotional support available to those affected by a brain tumour diagnosis, by expanding their counselling service. We know the difference that talking therapy can make and our goal is to reach more people, ensuring everyone that wants it, gets the support that they need.
How can you help?
As a Counselling Assessment Volunteer for this service, you will be the first point of call for new clients entering in to the service. This role will require you to talk to a wide range of people - from those newly diagnosed, to others at end of life and also bereaved. As a Counselling Assessment Volunteer, you will be required to:
- Carry out pre-booked counselling assessments with clients who have self-referred themselves into the counselling service
- Gather information through the assessment about the client’s circumstances, explore their needs, explain how the service can help and discuss with them whether the counselling service is suitable
- Confidently follow our safeguarding process, to ensure risk is assessed and appropriate steps are taken to safeguard each client’s well-being
- Observe confidentiality in line with our organisational policy
- Keep accurate and appropriate records on our internal database
We’re looking for...
Someone who is empathetic and supportive in nature, and who is excited by the opportunity to bring this counselling service to the wider brain tumour community. You will also need:
- Experience in providing emotional support to others, perhaps through another role focusing on bereavement, mental health or life limiting illnesses
- Ideally have had previous training in counselling, mental health first aid, or other relevant course
- Ability to work autonomously
- Relevant IT skills in order to maintain appropriate and accurate records on our counselling database
- As this is a home-based role, you will need access to a telephone and computer that you are happy to use for this service
The Brain Tumour Charity is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in all aspects of our organisation. We particularly welcome applications from individuals belonging to minority ethnic groups, LGBTQ+ communities, people with disabilities, and other underrepresented communities.
What can you gain from volunteering?
- You’ll have the opportunity to apply your existing support skills in a new way
- You will join a pioneering team, who are passionate about expanding the counselling service
- You will be supported in your role and will have a check in and check out with a team member before and after each shift
Time commitment
We are looking for a commitment of 2 hours per week (minimum) which would allow you to carry out 2 assessments. All assessments must be carried out between 9:30am-4pm, Monday - Friday, and we would ask all volunteers to work on a rota system, volunteering at the same times each week.
Practical considerations
You will receive a full induction to The Brain Tumour Charity and any specific training for the role, as well as ongoing direction from one of the team, who will be your key contact. We carry out references for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers will be required to complete some internal training, data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18. We may close applications early if we recieve a high number of applications for this role. If we receive a high volume of applications, we may close the role early, so we’d encourage you to apply at your earliest opportunity.
Need support with the application process?
We are committed to being inclusive and recognise that there may be a number of ways we could support you through the application process. If there’s any adjustments we can make to help you fully engage in the process, don’t hesitate to let us know by getting in touch with the Volunteering Team.

About EngineeringUK
The Engineering and Technology Board, trading as EngineeringUK, is an independent, not-for-profit organisation. Our vision is for the UK to have the diverse workforce needed for engineering and technology to thrive and to drive economic prosperity, improve sustainability and to achieve net zero. We do this by enabling more young people from all backgrounds to be informed, inspired and progress into engineering and technology.
In the UK, we don’t have enough engineers and demand is going up. We need more young people to realise there could be a future for them in engineering and technology. To really thrive, we need a stronger, more diverse and representative workforce and for that we have to do things differently and make engineering and technology more appealing.
We work with over 450 businesses, Professional Engineering Institutions (PEIs) and providers of education and outreach, gaining and sharing insight through research and evaluation, leading a collective effort to improve the impact of activities for schools, and advocating to improve the related policy environment.
EngineeringUK was created alongside the Engineering Council in 2001 and we work with complementary missions alongside each other, sharing funding from the registration fees of professionally registered engineers and technicians. Our work is also supported by Corporate Members and a broad range of funders of our activities.
We are guided by a series of values that we apply to all our activity:
- We are inclusive and care about diversity. We understand that we have different needs and create opportunities for everyone's voice to be heard.
- We are collaborative. We listen, share and work in partnership to achieve our vision.
- We are curious and keen to learn. We challenge ourselves and others to innovate and experiment.
- We are insightful. We evaluate what we do and draw on research to make decisions and to improve our collective understanding.
- We are driven by a strong sense of purpose. We are determined to make an impact and achieve our goals.

Our Mission
Brain tumours do not discriminate, and they do not respect boundaries. They can strike anyone, at any age. And they strike quickly.
Each volunteer is vital to making The Twilight Walk, a walking event that raises funds and awareness for brain tumours, such a special and successful day. No matter the role you play, you’ll make a big difference to us and all our walkers.
How can you help?
As a Route Marshal you will work as a team alongside section leaders (staff), to ensure participants are safe and looked after throughout the walk. You’ll get to cheer on, support and motivate our walkers throughout The Twilight Walk 5km and 10km route, and help create an exciting, energetic and enjoyable walking experience. You will not be alone for this role, all volunteers will be with at least 1 other volunteer at different aid stations along the route.
Responsibilities:
- To ensure all walkers keep to the pavements and walkways and don’t overspill on to the roads.
- To direct walkers to go in single file where appropriate and to ensure that all pedestrians have an equal opportunity to use pavements and walkways.
- To ensure that all walkers remain on the designated walk route, unless otherwise instructed to by yourself, your section leader or a member of the emergency services.
- To ensure that no walker walks alone. There will be designated front, back and middle walkers to make sure we do not lose anyone.
- To ensure that all walkers are respectful of the local community and try to keep noise to a reasonable level, especially through the residential areas of the route.
- If you are near to an item that could cause injury – i.e. a bollard, advise all walkers as they pass.
- Walkers will let you know if they need a first aider, if they have lost a child or if they would like to drop out of the walk. You will be given full details on how to deal with situations like this in your briefing on the day of the event.
- To ensure that children are properly supervised by their parent or guardian when crossing any roads. It is not your responsibility to cross the walkers or stop traffic – you are only there as assistance if needed
What impact will you have?
The Twilight Walk London is our biggest fundraising event of the year, where 1,300 supporters come together to raise vital funds for The Brain Tumour Charity. However and wherever you get involved, you’ll be part of our dedicated community, uniting around the same goal – beating brain tumours for good.
We’re looking for
As part of our volunteer team you will be enthusiastic, friendly and approachable at all times, ensuring our walkers safety comes first.
- Clear communication skills
- Responsible and reliable
- Able to walk up to 10km (potentially more) and stand up for long periods of time
- This role involves being outside for the duration of the walk so warm clothing and comfortable shoes are essential.
- You’ll have the opportunity to develop your communication and people skills through giving clear directions and instructions to participants.
- You’ll develop an understanding of how the Events team organises our flagship event.
- You’ll help the Events team raise more than £3.9 million a year, helping fund life-changing support and pioneering research.
Time commitment
The Twilight Walk London is taking place on Saturday 21st March 2026 at Lindley Hall. Route marshals will need to arrive at 10:30am and will be able to leave from 18:00pm (these times are estimates and subject to change).
We appreciate not everyone can commit to volunteering for the whole day. If you can commit to a few hours and would like to volunteer, please select the shift that suits you.
