Trustee Role

Carers Support is looking for new Trustees to join our Board. We are seeking people with previous board, committee or senior governance experience who want to use their skills to support unpaid carers and strengthen a respected local charity.

About Carers Support 

We are an independent charity supporting thousands of unpaid carers across Bristol and South Gloucestershire. We provide advice, information, emotional support, training, wellbeing services and young carers support. 

About the role 

As a Trustee, you will: 

• Help set the charity’s strategic direction 
• Ensure the organisation meets its legal duties 
• Monitor performance, risks and finances 
• Bring constructive challenge and independent judgement 
• Support a positive, inclusive and open board culture 
• Help ensure the voices and needs of carers guide our work 

You don’t need to be an expert in every topic. We welcome people who can read papers, ask thoughtful questions and contribute confidently as part of a team. 

What we’re looking for 

We are particularly interested in people with board or senior committee experience, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds. 

We are looking for: 

• Strategic thinking and good judgement 
• Understanding of governance or senior decision-making 
• Confidence contributing to discussions 
• A commitment to improving the lives of unpaid carers 
• The time to prepare for and attend meetings 

Time commitment 

• 4 board meetings per year (2hours each) 
• Membership of at least one sub-committee (4 meetings per year) 
• Additional committee meetings, events or development sessions, as required 
• Most meetings take place early evening, online or in person.

Children With Voices (CWV) is a grassroots charity supporting children, young people, and families through alternative education, life-skills programmes, wellbeing activities, and community food hubs.

The difference you will make to cats and people

This role concentrates on building relationships with members of the public, encouraging them to consider alternatives to placing their cats up for adoption. You will focus on providing information and support to existing owners who may be experiencing issues with their cat. You’ll also help potential new cat owners who are seeking advice before getting a cat.

You’ll build relationships within the community to engage with cat owners and potential cat owners, for example with vets, other charities, Citizen’s Advice, local authorities etc.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Providing information and support to cat owners who may be considering rehoming their cat due to a change in circumstances or cat behaviour issue
• Offer a signposting service, using a comprehensive resource library, information, guidance and support
• Communicating with members of the public to offer support regarding cat ownership by using a variety of mediums eg email, video calls, social media
• Effectively use in-house systems to record outcomes and provide feedback
• Linking with community groups, partners and charities to share key messages about cat ownership
• Linking with other Cats Protection volunteers and employees to share key messages and experiences
• Attending community events (in-person and virtual) to promote key messages

Time expectation

Our supporting cat owners volunteers usually spend four to 10 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Young people play a crucial role in helping us realise this mission. As a volunteer with our youth teams, you’ll be trained to provide our young people with both life skills and lifesaving skills – all while having great fun!

You’ll be working with our brilliant Badgers (aged 7-10) or creative Cadets (aged 11-18). Watford and Three Refugees Partnership is a charity offering practical and emotional support to asylum seekers, migrants and refugees in Watford and Three Rivers. We are looking for someone who has a couple of hours a week to help some of our clients.

Would you like to join the ESOL team within our charity that provides English language and literacy support to our clients?

Role description:

You will be teaching literacy to 1 or 2 clients a week. This will be face to face teaching at St Mary’s Church, Watford between 12.15 and 1.30pm but times can be subject to change.

Connection Support has a range of services providing support to people at risk of homelessness or on the edge of needing social care. We work with people made vulnerable through debt, mental health issues, substance misuse, learning disability, and physical disabilities.

Volunteers play a key role in the provision of vital services to our clients.

Are you a reliable handyperson who can undertake, upkeep, and repair a range of tasks for our housing support clients?

• Do you have 1-2 hours a week to make basic home improvements to client’s accommodation?
• Are you a dab hand at DIY and want to put your handyperson skills to good use?
