Purpose of the Role:

To inspire and guide girls aged 16–18 at the Baytree Centre through a focused six-session mentoring programme with a professional female role model. The Career Champions programme pairs young people with mentors working in their field of interest, for example, a girl aspiring to become an architect is matched with a practising architect, to provide insight into career pathways, develop professional skills, and build confidence. By sharing knowledge, experience, and encouragement, mentors support participants in making informed decisions about their future education and career choices.

Main Responsibilities:

- Deliver six structured mentoring sessions tailored to the mentee’s career interests and goals.

- Share knowledge, experiences, and practical advice about the mentor’s professional field.

- Introduce mentees to key skills, qualifications, and opportunities relevant to the chosen career.

- Support mentees in setting short- and long-term career-related goals, providing guidance on how to achieve them.

- Foster a positive and supportive relationship that builds the mentee’s confidence, motivation, and resilience.

- Where appropriate, provide insights into workplace culture, networking, and professional development.

- Maintain communication with the programme coordinator to track progress and address any concerns.

- Adhere to Baytree Centre policies and safeguarding procedures.

Skills and Qualities Required:

- Professional experience in the relevant career field, with the ability to share industry-specific knowledge.

- Strong interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport with young people.

- Patience, empathy, and the ability to encourage and motivate. - Good communication skills, with the ability to explain career pathways and options clearly.

Commitment:

- Six one-hour mentoring sessions to be completed within a maximum of three months.

- Sessions to be scheduled Monday to Friday between 4pm and 6pm.

- Flexibility to deliver sessions face-to-face or online, depending on the mentee’s needs.

Tech Volunteer – Help People Build Digital Confidence

Do you have an interest in technology and enjoy helping others? Vision Northumberland is looking for friendly, patient and enthusiastic Tech Volunteers to help people living with sensory impairment get the most from digital technology.

As a Tech Volunteer, you’ll provide friendly, one-to-one or small-group support, helping people develop their confidence, skills and independence when using digital devices and accessible technology.

What will you be helping with?

Depending on each person’s needs and interests, you could support them to:

• Get started with smartphones, tablets, computers and smart glasses.
• Make phone calls and send text messages.
• Use email safely and confidently.
• Browse the internet and access online services.
• Shop online and manage everyday tasks digitally.
• Use video calls to stay connected with family and friends.
• Download and use useful apps.
• Discover accessibility features on Apple and Android devices.
• Use magnification, speech and voice-assistant features.
• Connect hearing aids to digital devices.

You don’t need to be an expert. What matters most is your willingness to learn, your interest in technology and your enthusiasm for helping someone overcome barriers and become more independent.

Our Shop Volunteers raise money for the people we support with a Learning Disability. Do you have a few hours a week to spare and share your time with us?

Our retail roles are varied and fun. You could be sorting donations from the public, dressing our window or serving customers on the till. There are many people from different walks of life and it's a great way to get practical experience and to meet new people.

This role will take place on a weekly basis for a few hours We will try our best to be flexible around the best time for you, but also need to consider the store opening times and volunteer rota. It could be a weekday or weekend, morning or afternoon, our stores are usually open 7 days a week. We’d appreciate any time that you can spare.

Whilst in the store, you will help with activities based on the needs of the Store Manager.

Tasks you could get up to whilst volunteering could include:

• Serving customers on the till
• Taking stock donations from the public
• Tagging and steaming stock for the shop floor
• Dressing the window displays
• Asking people to join us as a volunteer

A bit about this role

As a charity we can continue to help cats and kittens in need thanks to the donations we receive at fundraising events from generous members of the public. Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!

Hertfordshire’s Family Centre Service brings children’s centres, health visiting and school nursing together, to provide a more joined-up service for children, young people, and their families.

The centres deliver a range of support groups and activities for children and their families to help them be healthy, grow and develop. To support qualified staff in creating a welcoming environment for families attending breastfeeding and infant feeding sessions.

Key Responsibilities:

· Welcome parents and carers to infant feeding sessions, making them feel at ease.

· Offer encouragement, reassurance, and a listening ear to families, providing peer support under staff guidance.

· Support with preparing and tidying away resources used during sessions.

· Model sensitivity, respect, and inclusivity when discussing feeding choices.

· Promote the benefits of breastfeeding and infant feeding best practices (Hertfordshire Family Centres are Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) accredited through UNICEF)

As the Fundraising Coordinator, you will be responsible for helping create and implementing strategies to fundraise from both existing and new sources (individuals, mosques, grants etc.) with the aim of securing the long-term financial stability of Roots Academy.

Key tasks

Fundraising Planning:

• Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising plans to achieve income goals.
• Identify potential new funding sources and opportunities for income generation.

Campaign Management:

• Plan and oversee fundraising campaigns and events, including direct appeals, online campaigns, and fundraising events at mosques.
• Coordinate with marketing and communications teams to develop compelling fundraising material.

Proposal Development:

• Research trusts, foundations and corporations for grant opportunities.
• Work with the team to develop proposals, supporting with grant writing when needed.

Budget Oversight:

• Work closely with the finance team to monitor fundraising budgets, expenditure, and financial projections.

Donor Relations:

• Support with Donor Communications in activities related to donor relationship management and stewardship.

• Strong understanding of fundraising principles and techniques, including donor cultivation

About the Role

As a Maintenance Volunteer, you will help maintain and improve the homes and environments of people with autism, sight loss, and learning disabilities. Your support will help create safe, comfortable, and welcoming spaces where people can thrive.

This role involves practical tasks such as painting, decorating, gardening, and general DIY. Please note that electrical, plumbing, and gas work are not included in this volunteer role.

You may be asked to support with a range of activities, including but not limited to:

• Supporter communications: Making phone calls to wish participants good luck before their event, congratulate them afterwards and thank them for their incredible fundraising efforts, as well as preparing and posting good luck cards and other supporter mailings.
• Participant materials: Preparing fundraising packs, participant welcome materials and certificates, ensuring participants receive everything they need.
• Event preparation: Packing event day materials and organising and assembling cheer packs, including banners, pom-poms, signs and other supporter resources.
• Data and administration: Assisting with data entry, updating supporter records, envelope stuffing, labelling and other general administrative tasks.
• Event and team support: Assisting with event logistics in the lead-up to busy fundraising events and helping to ensure the Events Team workspace is tidy, organised and well-stocked.
• Ad hoc support: Supporting wider Events Team projects and administrative tasks, particularly during busy periods, to help keep things running smoothly.

Location and time commitment

This is an office-based volunteering role. We’re therefore looking for someone who is happy to volunteer at our Fleet, Hampshire office initially, before continuing at our new Woking office from early 2027 onwards.

During our busier spring and autumn seasons, we’re looking for a commitment of approximately two hours per week, ideally on a Wednesday. During the quieter summer and winter seasons, this would reduce to approximately two hours every two weeks. We understand that volunteers have other commitments, so we can offer some flexibility and can tailor your experience around your availability. 

Practical considerations You will receive a full induction to The Brain Tumour Charity and any specific training for the role, as well as ongoing direction from one of the Events team, who will be your key contact. We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers may be required to complete some internal data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18. • Ensure you have all you need in place to foster the cat(s) in your care, for example equipment and food
• Cover all your foster cats’ expenses and agreed out-of-pocket expenses in line with our Expenses Policy
• Provide you with access to learning, development and engagement opportunities

What we need from you 

• A stable, safe and compassionate environment in your home or in a purpose-built pen in your garden provided by us
• Enrich the cats’ experience in care including play, exercise and appropriate handling/interaction
• A willingness to complete some training in order to provide high standards of cat welfare
• Introduce cats to prospective adopters so they can find their forever home

Time expectation

Our volunteer fosterers usually spend around one and a half hours per day (around 10 to 13 hours per week) in this role, but this might vary depending on the number of cats or kittens in care.
