The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. LSHTM was established in 1899 and is incorporated under a Royal Charter granted in 1924. The Charter establishes its Council as the “supreme governing body” of LSHTM. Council is responsible for the strategic direction of LSHTM and approves major developments and receives regular reports from Executive Officers on the operations of its business, in accordance with the Financial Memorandum between LSHTM and the Office for Students (OfS).

Council is also responsible for its governance, control and supervision in accordance with the LSHTM’s Charter and relevant external regulations. These external requirements are set out in the Financial Memorandum between LSHTM and the OfS. The Council comprises a majority of lay members, as well as staff members and a student member. The roles of Chair and Deputy Chair of the Council are separated from the role of LSHTM’s Chief Executive, the Director.

Council has two vacancies for the role of independent member of Council. LSHTM has identified a number of areas where relevant expertise from any new Council members would be welcomed:

• Finance, Accounting and Investment Management
• Business, Enterprise, SMEs and start-ups
• Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Digital

Amongst the desirable attributes sought from members of Council and its Committees are:

• A strong personal commitment to the mission and objectives of LSHTM;
• Collaborative skills and the ability to work as a member of a team, including with other Council and Committee members, students and academic and professional services staff;

Time Commitment

The nature of the role requires a commitment of time to prepare, attend and actively participate in Council and Committee meetings. Council meets four times a year and its Committees meet between three and six times a year depending on the Committee. 

Remuneration

This is a non-remunerated role that does not attract a salary or honorarium. Independent members of Council and Committees will be able to claim reasonable travel and subsistence expenses incurred in the course of LSHTM business.

Volunteer Ambassador

We are looking for conscientious and proactive Volunteer Ambassadors to help raise the profile of ECI and support fundraising within the community.

Despite being one of Exeter’s oldest charities, many people are still unaware of the work we do. As an Ambassador, you will help share our impact, connect with the community, and support fundraising activity so more people can benefit from our services.

By joining our fundraising and engagement team, you will play an important role in helping ECI continue its work across Exeter and beyond.

What you’ll be doing

• Attend occasional group meetings and community events
• Represent ECI at local events, stands and awareness activities
• Help promote and support fundraising activities and initiatives
• Share information about ECI services, impact and opportunities to get involved
• Support bucket collections, awareness stands and community outreach
• Help identify locations for posters, collection tins and promotional materials

Role Summary

As the Fundraising Coordinator, you will be responsible for helping create and implementing strategies to fundraise from both existing and new sources (individuals, mosques, grants etc.) with the aim of securing the long-term financial stability of Roots Academy.

Key tasks

Fundraising Planning:

• Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising plans to achieve income goals.
• Identify potential new funding sources and opportunities for income generation.

Campaign Management:

• Plan and oversee fundraising campaigns and events, including direct appeals, online campaigns, and fundraising events at mosques.
• Coordinate with marketing and communications teams to develop compelling fundraising material.

Proposal Development:

• Research trusts, foundations and corporations for grant opportunities.
• Work with the team to develop proposals, supporting with grant writing when needed.

Budget Oversight:

• Work closely with the finance team to monitor fundraising budgets, expenditure, and financial projections.

Donor Relations:

• Support with Donor Communications in activities related to donor relationship management and stewardship.

• Experience in organising fundraising campaigns and events, including digital fundraising strategies
• Strong understanding of fundraising principles and techniques, including donor cultivation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate the organisation’s mission and impact to diverse audiences

Events Volunteer - Lancashire (various)

Do you want to raise some money for Shelter, while having fun along the way?

Information about the role

This role involves supporting at a range of events to help raise money and awareness to tackle the housing emergency. It’s a really flexible opportunity. Once you’re signed up, we’ll let you know about upcoming events and tasks, and you can decide which you’d like to do. 

Location: Lancashire (various)

Suggested contribution: It’s up to you! Ideally, you’d help out at least 4-5 times per year, but this is flexible. 

Availability: This is a varied opportunity with events taking place at different times and on different days throughout the year, including evenings and weekends. You can choose the events that best suit your availability.

This is a flexible and diverse role. Here are some of the activities you might get involved in:

• Represent us at a range of events including, community fairs, gigs, Pride marches, sporting events and street stalls.

• Support some of our fundraising activity such as holding collection cans in public spaces or bag packing in supermarkets.

• Help us grow our movement for change by supporting petitions and raising awareness of our calls to action through social media.

• Other one-off tasks such as web-based research.

This role fights the housing emergency by raising funds that enable Shelter to provide advice and support and campaigning for change. The events you’ll be attending are also great for raising awareness of the housing emergency and how people can get involved to help tackle it.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of our organisation by ensuring the voices, experiences and perspectives of parents remain at the heart of our work, strategy and decision-making.

We welcome applications from young parents with lived experience of pregnancy, early parenthood and/or accessing support for their mental health and wellbeing during pregnancy or within the first two years of their child’s life.

The role
We are seeking a Treasurer with experience of financial reporting, oversight and governance to join our Board of Trustees. The right candidate will work closely with the current Treasurer who will provide mentoring support until they step down from the Board in September 2026.

Trustees have individual and collective responsibility to ensure the highest standards of Governance for ARC. You will work with the ARC Chair, Board and Strategic Leadership Team to deliver our strategic vision and help ensure the long-term future and success of ARC. The Treasurer is a trustee that offers strategic and financial oversight of the charity.

The ARC Board of Trustees meet four times a year; one in-person and three online, so the role will require a degree of travel and the occasional overnight stay.  Our Board is inclusive of people with additional needs who are experts by experience. 

This is a voluntary position.  Your travel and other out of pocket expenses will be paid.

About you 
You have experience of financial reporting, oversight and governance of a charity. A financial qualification would be helpful.

Volunteer as a courtwatcher and become the eyes and ears of your community in your local magistrates’ court.

CourtWatch is a mass court observation project, where citizen volunteers observe the daily hearings in court and write down what they see. The real-time data and stories volunteers collect will shine a spotlight on what really happens in our local courts, expose shortfalls and highlight systemic injustices. The CourtWatch project is run by Transform Justice, a charity that works for a fairer, more compassionate criminal justice system. 

Volunteer responsibilities:

• visit your local magistrates’ court for half a day (or a day) at a time, on any weekday. Ideally volunteers will courtwatch for a minimum of two days (or four half days)

• observe criminal hearings happening in the court and write down what happens in the hearings you observe, using a form provided by the CourtWatch team 

• write up your notes into an online form after your visit (if you don’t have easy access to a computer, we can work around this) 

Benefits of being a courtwatcher:

• learn about what happens in the magistrates’ courts 

• develop new skills including research, attention to detail, observation, insight

• help build a picture of what’s happening in your local magistrates’ court, expose systemic injustices and help make courts fairer and more compassionate

Skills and experience:

Anyone can courtwatch! You do not need any knowledge or expertise in law or criminal justice to be a courtwatcher.  You just need to be passionate about justice and equality, and keen to create positive change in your community. 

We will provide you with all the training you need on what happens at court, what to look out for and how to document what happens. Training will be online and likely take place over two sessions. There will also be regular check-ins and debriefs where you can talk with the CourtWatch team and other volunteers about what you saw and heard.

Other information:

Criminal hearings take place on weekdays between 10am and 5pm, with a break for lunch 1-2pm, and Saturday mornings 10am - 1pm. 

Within the times above, and once you’ve completed the training, you can go to court when it is most convenient to you. You might want to buddy up with another volunteer for your first visit while you learn the ropes; we can help arrange this. 

You can courtwatch any time from when you’ve completed your training to 30 November 2026 – we hope you’ll become a regular! – after which we will use data you have collected to produce a report.  We may also use some of the stories and data you collect to communicate about what’s happening in courts while courtwatching is still underway.

Transform Justice will cover reasonable expenses that you incur while courtwatching, for example for travel and lunch, upon production of valid receipts and in line with our expenses policy. 

Transform Justice will make reasonable adjustments for people with disabilities who would like to volunteer. Please get in touch and we will discuss with you how to achieve this.

Before you begin courtwatching we will ask you to complete our volunteer training and a pre-courtwatching survey, and sign our volunteer agreement.

As a Communications Volunteer you’ll play a key role in promoting your group to people in your area affected by MS, and helping them feel connected. You could be editing newsletters, responding to information requests, or developing engaging content for social media — depending on what the group needs. 

In this role you’ll develop your writing skills, and gain experience of communicating across a range of digital channels. Most importantly you’ll be helping us engage with lots of people and get the word out to people with MS about support to help them live their lives to the full.

• Creating content for, promoting and moderating group social media channels 
• Writing and editing newsletters and promotional materials in line with brand guidelines 
• Updating group information resources 
• Supporting the group’s shared responsibility for designing and delivering services and activities
