Fundraising advisors wanted to support East London Waterworks Park in developing and implementing our fundraising strategy.
East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces.
If you are a professional fundraiser and would like to help but are short on time, we would love to hear from you even if you are unable to get deeply involved. We would appreciate one-off or ongoing advice on the phone, online or in person. We would welcome feedback on our fundraising strategy and past applications, any advice about trust and grant fundraising, and any other advice you can give.
The Fundraising Circle currently meets fortnightly on a Thursday evening on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely. We understand that people may not have a lot of time to give, so we want to find volunteers who could give us one-off or ongoing strategic advice and support.
If you have experience in funding strategy, writing grants for funding applications, corporate fundraising, philanthropy, or any other aspect of fundraising, it would be great to hear from you.
East London Waterworks Park is an exciting and ambitious project that offers many rewarding opportunities for our volunteers. You will have a significant impact on the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds and forest schools.
By leading fundraising projects that explore how diverse professionals (architects, ecologists, web developers, community researchers etc.) collaborate to shape community infrastructure, volunteers will directly contribute to the development of a park that truly reflects the needs and desires of the local community.
Without funding we won’t be able to make it happen. Your input will help us craft experiences that inspire, educate, and engage our service users, stakeholders, funders, and the general public, ultimately driving support for the park's mission and ensuring its long-term sustainability. So you will be directly contributing to the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds.

This Role Is Where Trust Is Built—or Lost
At Tell My Truth and Shame the Devil C.I.C., social media is not a marketing channel. It is often the first place someone tells the truth. The first place a survivor speaks. The first place a young person asks for help, direction, or hope. The Social Media Engagement Officer is the human presence behind our platforms — responding, guiding, holding boundaries, and directing people safely into the right parts of our ecosystem. This is not a growth-hacking role. This is a trust, discernment, and care role.
Purpose of the Role
The Social Media Engagement Officer ensures that every interaction on our digital platforms is:
- Human, not automated
- Trauma-aware, not reactive
- Boundaried, not extractive
- Purpose-led, not performative
You are the bridge between content and community — between attention and action.
Experience Qualification and Requirements
Essential experience
- Experience in community engagement, online community management, moderation, or customer support where tone, safety, and trust matter.
- Experience communicating in sensitive contexts (e.g., advocacy, youth work, frontline/community roles, safeguarding-adjacent environments).
- Experience handling challenging messages, conflict, harassment, or emotionally charged content with professionalism and calm judgement.
Essential skills & qualities
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to respond clearly, respectfully, and consistently in public and private channels.
- Emotional regulation and resilience when exposed to distressing content, survivor stories, or hostile interactions.
- Reliability, discretion, and strong boundaries, including comfort following protocols and escalating without delay.
- Ability to apply trauma-informed language and maintain C.I.C tone-of-voice without offering counselling or personal advice.
- Ability to triage and route people appropriately (donations, volunteering, VFAP, podcast submissions, resources) using approved pathways.
- Attention to detail for logging patterns, risks, and recurring needs, and sharing structured feedback with the team.
Desirable
- Experience engaging across multiple platforms (TikTok, Instagram, X, YouTube, LinkedIn) and adapting tone to platform norms.
- Familiarity with safeguarding principles, escalation workflows, and online safety practices.
Training & support provided
- Safeguarding protocols and escalation pathways.
- Platform-specific engagement standards and tone-of-voice guidance.
- Escalation and reporting systems, including how to log risks and recurring themes.
Main Responsibilities/ Key Duties
- Monitor comments, replies, and DMs across C.I.C platforms to maintain a safe, respectful, and survivor-centred community environment.
- Respond consistently in alignment with C.I.C values and tone, using trauma-informed language and maintaining clear safeguarding boundaries at all times.
- Direct individuals to the correct pathways and resources, including donation routes, volunteer onboarding, VFAP (Violence-Free Action Pathway), podcast submissions, and approved support information.
- Identify and flag safeguarding concerns immediately to the appropriate role, ensuring that potential risk is not held in engagement channels.
- Escalate high-risk messages using agreed protocols, prioritising urgent or concerning disclosures, threats, harassment, or boundary breaches.
- Help maintain comment spaces that are respectful and free from harassment, minimisation, victim-blaming, grooming behaviour, or abusive language, taking action in line with moderation guidance.
- Support healthy engagement by encouraging constructive dialogue, de-escalating where appropriate, and reinforcing community standards without argument or defensiveness.
- Log patterns, risks, and recurring community needs (e.g., common questions, frequent triggers, misinformation themes, safeguarding hotspots) and feed insights back to the team.
- Work closely with Community Moderation & Safety, Safeguarding, and Campaign/Content teams to ensure joined-up responses and consistent public-facing messaging.
- Maintain confidentiality, discretion, and professional boundaries; you do not counsel, diagnose, or provide emotional support — you route safely and responsibly.
This role is not suitable if you:
- Want to debate or argue online
- Struggle with emotional boundaries
- Seek influencer-style engagement
- Want creative control over content
- Are unable to follow safeguarding procedures strictly
This is not about visibility — it is about responsibility.
Important to Be Clear
- This is a volunteer role during the build phase
- It carries real responsibility and trust
- Emotional maturity is essential
- Paid roles will emerge as the organisation becomes financially sustainable
Next Steps
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to:
- A values-led conversation
- A short scenario-based engagement discussion
If you believe that how we respond matters as much as what we post, and that care is an operational function, not a feeling, this role is for you.
A Final Word
Social media is about people, not platforms.
If you know that:
- Trust is built through presence, care, and consistency
- Boundaries are a form of protection, not distance
- Privacy and consent are safeguarding responsibilities
- How we respond matters as much as what we post
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

How we work (and what you can expect when joining the team)
We don’t believe in KPIs or harsh targets; that’s not our style. We’re a values-led, cause-driven team that measures success by the quality of relationships we build, the opportunities we uncover together, and the impact we make for our beneficiaries. Numbers can be useful, but we don’t use quotas or pressure to motivate people. Instead, we focus on collaboration, learning, and genuine enthusiasm for finding the right people who align with our mission.
What this looks like in the marketing team
In practice, you’ll join a supportive creative team that shares story leads, swaps ideas, and helps each other refine drafts. We celebrate curiosity, voice, and progress, not just outcomes. We’ll agree on simple, shared goals and light check-ins so everyone knows where we’re heading, but we won’t impose arbitrary targets or dashboards. If a post doesn’t land or a campaign underperforms, we treat it as learning—not failure—and we improve it together. Yours and our wellbeing and growth matter to us as much as the content we publish. We understand that content engagement takes time and effort to develop.
How we create together
You’ll have space to research, think, and craft clear, accessible writing across channels (web, email, social, print or channels you have been assigned to). We work from short creative briefs, friendly peer reviews, and a living style guide, so you’re never writing in a vacuum. We co-create with programme colleagues and volunteers, turning real experiences into stories, explainers, and resources that help people connect with our mission.
Ethical, inclusive storytelling
We take ethical marketing seriously. We prioritise respectful, consent-based storytelling, plain language, and accessibility (e.g., clear structure, alt text, readable layouts). We’d rather publish fewer, stronger pieces that we’re proud of than chase volume for the sake of a metric. You’ll have time to fact-check and shape narratives that are honest, strengths-based, and aligned with our values.
Your voice, our mission
Bring your ideas! Pitch topics, test formats, and iterate. We’ll back you with constructive feedback, and opportunities to grow your craft while keeping our shared focus on meaningful content that supports the communities we serve.
If you’re motivated by purpose, teamwork, and thoughtful posts (rather than meeting a quota) you’ll feel right at home with us! But remember, because of this supportive and collaborative culture we maintain, we will honestly rely on you to fulfil your share of the work.
Before you apply
We’re really grateful for every volunteer’s time and contribution. Please note we’re unable to provide professional references for volunteers who haven’t actively participated and engaged with our work for at least four months and/or delivered tangible outcomes*. Your work is valued even if your circumstances change and you’re not able to fulfil the time and hours we originally agreed. However, because professional references require a higher level of commitment, meaningful contribution, and long-term dedication, we can only provide them when we’ve worked together long enough and seen clear results from your involvement, to give future employers a fair, well-informed reference.
*By “tangible outcomes,” we mean clear contributions such as completing agreed tasks or projects, meeting deadlines, producing work we can review, or making measurable progress toward team goals. If a professional reference isn’t possible, we’re happy to confirm your volunteering dates and role instead.
Please, send us a cover letter and your CV saying why you want to volunteer with us. Unfortunately, we can only accpet application from volunteers who have the right to work and volunteer in the UK. Thank you!
Our mission is developing a nationally recognised centre of excellence in sustainability education and land stewardship.

The Vacancy:
Emersons Green Village Hall is seeking to recruit a Chair of Trustees to build upon our success to date, provide visionary strategic leadership and steer the charity through its next stage of development and growth.
This is a voluntary role with a minimum time commitment of approximately five hours per month. In addition we have Committee Meetings to deal with finances and operations, plus our AGM. Meetings are held via Microsoft Teams or in-person at Emersons Green Village Hall.
The Role of the Chair:

Ideally you will have experience of being a Trustee. We are also looking for individuals with leadership, management, and organisational development skills. The first step is for our Company Secretary to show you around Emersons Green Village Hall and answer any questions about our operations and the building. If you wish to proceed with your application after your visit and discussion, we will take up your references. If these are satisfactory, one of the current Co-Chairs will interview you. The Board will then discuss any candidates proposed by the Co-Chair at our next Trustee Meeting and you will be notified of the outcome.

Support the work of St John Ambulance in your community by volunteering as a Community Volunteer, an exciting new role which is designed to revamp how volunteering looks in the modern world; flexible, innovative and is open for all.
We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient. Community Volunteers can choose from a wide selection of activities – including fundraising, talks and demonstrations, supporting at events, volunteer welfare, social media and administration support.
Through supporting the growth of community partnerships, you will bring people along to our cause, growing our membership and fundraising base and spreading the message that First Aid Saves Lives.
Give as much (or little) time as you can afford. With this new role, you simply volunteer when it works for you. That means you can give as much time as you like or as little as 24 hours across a whole year, whenever it suits you. It’s perfect for busy lives, changing schedules, or for anyone seeking a low-commitment involvement.
The Community Volunteer provides an easy way to stay connected and contribute meaningfully to your local community. Here are some examples of what you could do:
- Community fundraising
- Talks and demonstrations
- Support at events
- Volunteer welfare
- Community Roadshows
- Supporting national campaigns
- Counting and banking money
- Booking events
- Supporting Networks
- Administration support
- Writing thank you and community letters
- Media and social media
- Community news and Network newsletters
Through volunteering as a Community Volunteer, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time.
Once we have completed your selection and screening for this role, we will provide you with an induction, as well as invite you to any necessary training sessions. We will also provide you with a supportive environment while you are volunteering with us. Information about our volunteer roles are included in the role descriptions. What you can expect from SJA, and what we expect from those who volunteer with us, is included in the volunteer charter.
Closing date for these opportunities is: 31/01/2026

Our new Trustees may come from many walks of life and we do not require prior board-level experience. At this time, we are particularly keen to hear from candidates who can help to build the charity’s infrastructure with: finance or accountancy, law, human resources and people management, income generation, commercial fundraising, marketing and communications, as well as those with experience in the education sector or working with young people.
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate some of the following qualities:
- Sound judgement and strategic thinking ability balanced by an openness to listening to others and to new ideas
- A clear commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in the organisation
- Understanding or experience of the arts and/or education and a belief in the transformative power of poetry and performance
- An enthusiasm for arts charity work and the confidence and willingness to advocate our mission.
All Trustees will be offered an induction. The role offers the opportunity to learn about governance and what it takes to run an arts organisation and achieve its objectives. Alongside experienced individuals, we also want to recruit a young trustee who would be willing to take up a governance role for the first time, someone who is willing to be mentored, so that we can offer tailored support and training as required.
All Trustees will have the opportunity to attend Young Identity writing workshops, training, and events to experience Young Identity’s unique delivery of poetry and performance.
Our current board is a diverse mix of trustees with backgrounds in: economics, law, psychology, education, counselling, young people’s arts production, community engagement and creative business development. The current board brings a wealth of knowledge, both specialist and general, as well as invaluable perspectives and lived experience ranging from the local, national and international. However, we also need to actively manage changes to the board as the terms of current trustees come to an end. We strive to do this in a systematic and organised way to ensure both continuity, stability as well as the development and progression of Young Identity.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
