REACH Drug and Alcohol Service is the commissioned community drug and alcohol provision for Devon. It provides a range of support, interventions and treatments for those wanting to make positive changes to their drug and/or alcohol use, as well raising awareness and supporting family members.

Details of the role & tasks

Recovery Support Volunteers can be involved in various aspects of service delivery. It is a front line, client facing role and may involve a focus on one particular area, such as group work or Duty support, or, it may involve a combination of tasks and activities. We are looking for a team player with a willingness to learn.

Tasks may include:

• Support people engaged in support with Together to achieve their Recovery Plan goals
• Support the facilitation of structured and unstructured group work programmes, both virtually and face to face
• Support and empower individuals to engage in recovery activities, including those provided by Together and the wider community
• Conduct welfare and check-in phone calls
• Be a first point of contact for individuals, professionals, or family members, taking referrals as appropriate
• Provide Brief Interventions, including those focussed around harm reduction
• Use Halo (internal case management system) to document sessions and support the team with updates and audits
• Identify and report any concerns or risks to the Duty staff or Duty Manager
• Potential to offer 1-1 support to individuals and hold a small caseload; from point of assessment through to ongoing recovery support – once confident and competent to do so, and alongside the support and guidance of your supervisor

Schedule / How much time are you expected to give and when?:

For the role to be mutually beneficial, we hope for volunteers to volunteer for 6 months.

The 2nd and 4th Monday of the month 1pm-3pm (possibility of weekly sessions tbc)

Our Finance team ensures smooth and transparent financial operations for the branch by maintaining accurate records, processing payments, and supporting financial reporting. This role suits someone organised, reliable, and comfortable working with spreadsheets or accounting software.

About the RSPCA

The RSPCA MILTON Keynes & North Bucks Branch

The MILTON Keynes & North Bucks Branch is one of the branches of RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Much of the animal welfare work of RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which is run by volunteers who have the support of the National Society of RSPCA.

Finance & Accounts Assistant Volunteer responsibilities

• Process supplier invoices accurately and in a timely manner using Xero accounting software.
• Account for and monitor VAT on relevant transactions.
• Maintain and manage the finance email inbox, responding to queries and organising finance-related correspondence.
• Extract invoices from supplier portals and process them within the finance system.
• Process and reconcile redeemed Animal Welfare Vouchers, ensuring accurate recording and marking off against issued vouchers.
• Assist with general finance administration and record-keeping as required.

Within CPSL Mind's serives, our trainined Peer Mentor "walk alongside" individuals on thier recovery journey as they work towards specific personal goals through 1:1 work or group support. This service is offered Monday to Friday between office hours. 

Aims of the service is to:

• Reduce loneliness and social isolation among adults
• Improve mental wellbeing and confidence through regualar social contact
• Encourage informal physical activity, including walking, gentle exercise and community particiaption 
• Strengthen resilience by supporting individuals to access public services, groups and wider community provision
• Reduce reliance on statutory support 

This role will offer the opportunity to become part of the volunteer team at the Warner Textile Archive to gain practical experience in collections management. Volunteers will be responsible for assessing hand-painted paper artworks depicting patterns that were translated into printed or woven textiles by Warner & Sons during the period of c.1870s-2000s. The project involves evaluating existing data regarding specific items and cataloguing these pieces, alongside photographic digitisation, and making inert conservation polyester enclosures to protect the designs. This opportunity is suitable for volunteers as well as students looking to complete placements or work experience as part of their studies.

Role Description

• Catalogue at item level, following data input policies, on collections management system CollectionsIndex+ paper designs held within the collection to support improved access. Improve catalogue records to internal and international standards for the paper designs, including creating descriptions, checking locations, adding keywords and manufacturing numbers, as well as information on weave structure and design where possible, materials, colour. Record details on object condition where necessary.

• Cross check information on Collections Index + with index cards to include all relevant historic information.

• Take photographs of catalogued items and name image files within our policy structure. Upload to Collections Index+ records.

• Using our conservation polyester welding machine, create bespoke sized enclosures for designs to repack to conservation standards.

• There is an opportunity to create a short article and related social media content about your experience of working with the collection.

Further Information

Full training and support will be given on all aspects of the role. No previous experience necessary. 

We are able to facilitate a flexible work schedule based on the individual’s existing responsibilities. For a student placement, we require a minimum of 10 days to provide meaningful work experience.

Some online training on cataloguing, the history of Warner & Sons, and collections care will be required prior to the volunteer’s start date.

The role is not remote and will require travel to Warner Textile Archive, Silks Way, Braintree, Essex, CM7 3GB. We have a travel bursary of up to £50 per day which is able to offer support with travel costs and £5 per day for subsistence.

Computer facilities will be provided on-site.

About the Warner Textile Archive

The Warner Textile Archive is a significant collection of design, business, economic and social history of textile manufacturing firm Warner & Sons, based in Braintree between the dates of 1870 – 2001. The Warner Textile Archive is the largest collection of an individual textile manufacturer available in the public domain in the United Kingdom. We hold over 100,000 administrative records, paper designs, trial samples, manufacturing equipment and textiles of Warner & Sons, their predecessors and successors, illustrating how furnishing textile manufacturing changed over more than 150 years. 

Essential Skills and Knowledge Required

• Excellent Microsoft Office software skills and general computer literacy, with the enthusiasm to learn new systems.

• Must be dedicated to working to a meticulous attention to detail in regards to accurate data inputting, spelling and grammar.

As a Community Services Lead, you will oversee the delivery of our Community First Aid programmes and local Fundraising and Engagement activity within your Network. Your role will be pivotal in supporting your network to be sustainable whilst also growing, by increasing charitable income and engaging the local community in the work of St John Ambulance.

Through your leadership, people in your communities will gain essential first aid skills.

You’ll empower them to respond confidently in emergencies and ultimately save lives whilst also supporting local fundraising to maintain our presence and impact. You will also support the growth of a motivated and skilled base of volunteers who will help you deliver these objectives.

Additional to Network meeting evenings the successful applicant will be required to attend a Network Leadership meeting Monthly. These will generally in person but may be via Teams if circumstances require it.
