Role Overview

We believe the key to improving school performance is effective governance. By finding, nurturing and supporting a committed network of governors, we drive positive systematic change that benefits each and every student, regardless of their background.
Governors for Schools recruits and matches volunteers with school governing boards and provides ongoing support.
What’s involved?
There are governor vacancies across England and Wales. Some schools are also looking for remote governors who don't need to live near the school they support.
Governors volunteer at board level to set the strategic vision for their school. This involves constructively challenging current processes, using your unique skills to support senior leaders, and overseeing school finances. You’ll be involved in areas such as monitoring, budget management, and data analysis. As well as putting your expertise to good use, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your professional skills. Ultimately, you’ll work towards facilitating the delivery of a broad and exciting curriculum and oversee wellbeing and inclusion initiatives. Grant Prospecting Coordinator (Excel and Research)

About the role
We are looking for a friendly, organised, and committed volunteer to support our Fundraising Team by prospecting grant opportunities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys research, reading funder guidelines, and working with data.
You will take the lead in helping us make smart use of our time by identifying which grants in our existing database are the best match for our work and where we are most likely to be eligible.
This is a prospecting management role only. You will not be asked to write grant applications.
What you will do
- Work through a complex Excel-based grants database and assess opportunities against our charity’s aims and activities
- Read funder criteria, eligibility rules, and guidance notes to decide whether a grant is a good fit and discuss it with our Fundraising Coordinator.
- Shortlist suitable grants and record your findings clearly in the spreadsheet (notes, deadlines, key requirements)
- Flag any missing information and help keep the grants Pipeline tidy and consistent
- Share weekly or fortnightly updates with the Fundraising Team
- Guide the Fundraising Team to understand which opportunities must be prioritised
What we are looking for
Essential
- Excellent Excel skills (confident using filters, sorting, data validation, working and finding data in structured and complex spreadsheets)
- Strong attention to detail and an analytical mindset
- Enjoys research and reading specifications carefully
- Able to make clear, evidence-based judgements about eligibility and fit
- Reliable and able to commit 3 to 4 hours per week on an ongoing basis
- Good written communication for concise spreadsheet notes and updates
Desirable
- Experience in charity fundraising, grant research, or prospecting

We're looking for a finance assistant volunteer who can support the financial administration of the charity using our finance software, Xero. We The volunteer will support the Chair to undertake regular financial tasks such as budgeting, reporting, and audits while ensuring financial transparency.
Key Tasks and Objectives
- Support the financial management of the Charity using Xero
- Data Entry: Recording financial transactions such as donations, invoices and expenses into our finance software, Xero.
- Weekly Reconciling income into Xero from GoCardless, Stripe, PayPal and other third-party agencies that facilitate donations being made to the charity.
- Maintain financial and accounting records, ensuring accuracy and consistency
- Assist with preparing payroll and/or pension information for submission to an external payroll provider (when required)
- Assist with the preparation of the accounts, quarterly and annual accounts for accountant annually as well as supporting funder financial reports
- Track the financial situation of projects
- Ensure that all necessary financial information is recorded accurately
- Assist with financial forecasting and budgeting
- Document Management: Organising and filing receipts, invoices, and other financial documents (digitally).
- Assist the Chair, volunteers or members of staff in understanding and using the accounting software
- Any other tasks that may be required from time to time or during the final accounts period, as appropriate.
- Assist with general administration relating to finances
Key Skills or Qualifications
Essential:
- Knowledge and experience of using Xero accounting software, including tracking project spending, managing volunteers’ expenses and department spending, uploading invoices, reconciliation, etc.
- Understanding of tracking financial data and information
- Experience of working in a bookkeeping role
- Accurate and up-to-date knowledge and experience of charity finance, SORP and other relevant frameworks

As Retreat Support & Member Travel Liaison, you will coordinate the logistical and communication aspects of member participation in retreats and events. You will act as a key point of contact for travel planning, accommodation coordination, accessibility needs, and member queries before, during, and after retreats. Working closely with programme leads, clinical and safeguarding teams, and community managers, you will help ensure retreats are delivered smoothly, safely, and in alignment with our values-led, anti-capitalist, community-driven mission.

- Primary point of contact for members: Act as a calm, reliable, and approachable contact for participants attending retreats or in-person programmes. Respond to queries promptly, clearly, and sensitively, recognising that travel and participation can be stressful or unfamiliar for some members.
- Support retreat and programme planning: Work alongside programme leads to support retreat schedules, attendance tracking, check-in processes, and on-the-day coordination. Assist with practical arrangements that enable facilitators to focus on delivery and participant care.
- Liaison with venues and teams: Coordinate with venues, facilitators, and internal teams to ensure accommodation, access, catering, room set-up, and transport arrangements meet programme needs, safeguarding standards, and agreed expectations.
- Accessibility, wellbeing, and safeguarding: Proactively identify potential accessibility barriers, wellbeing needs, or safeguarding concerns shared by participants. Escalate issues promptly and appropriately to designated leads, following organisational safeguarding procedures.
- Data management and compliance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of participant details, travel arrangements, access requirements, and communications. Ensure all information is handled confidentially and in full compliance with GDPR and data protection policies.

We are seeking new members to join our Audit & Risk Assurance Committee, which plays a vital role in supporting good governance within the Church. The Committee reports to the Connexional Council, which is the trustee body of the MCB.
About You
We are keen to recruit a member with operational experience of the church – this could be a minister or a lay person with significant experience of the day to day workings at church, circuit or district level. We are also looking for a member who has IT experience and can assist the committee with issues relating to AI, Cyber Security and Digital.
Working collaboratively with other members of the committee, you will bring your professional skills and experience to bear across the committee’s responsibilities. Not only will you have an understanding of the Church, you will also bring a ‘critical friend’ mindset to scrutinising the accounts and governance framework of the Connexional Council. As the Church continues to develop its mission, maintaining effective governance is a vital task.
