Job description

The Maypole Project is a small but growing charity and we are looking for a volunteer to support us to maintain and develop our social media activity across all channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn

You will help with:

  • Creating engaging social media content and scheduling social media posts, liaising with staff as needed
  • Managing content calendars, inputting key social media activities and updating as necessary
  • Managing our social media community including moderating and responding to comments and messages
  • Growing our followers on social media platforms
  • Identifying key influencers and develop influencer engagement strategies
  • Reporting on social media insight data to monitor and evaluate success
  • Monitoring other organisation’s social media to identify trends
  • Making links with appropriate organisations to build new relationships within our online community
  • Keeping up to date with The Maypole Project events and news
  • Follow The Maypole Project policies and guidelines at all times whilst volunteering


Can be either be based at our Head Office in Green Street Green in Orpington or home-based with regular visits to the office

Time commitment:

We are flexible and happy to discuss this with the volunteer. Ideally we would like someone who could offer a few hours every week (ideally in the office) to undertake the above tasks and also be able to support us remotely in between these times with ad hoc posting and monitoring of our social media channels

About The Maypole Project

The Maypole Project provides a lifeline of support for children with complex and life threatening illnesses and their whole family; aiming to relieve and help preserve the mental and physical well-being of children and young people who have complex medical needs. We provide a range of support services to all members of the family from diagnosis through treatment and beyond.


Experience of working in a social media role and/or an experienced and keen user of social media channels like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn

Creating engaging digital content using a range of digital tools

Good understanding of social media trends and audiences

Knowledge of social media monitoring tools, digital evaluation and analysis

Good communication skills including good telephone and writing skills

Team player
