Role Description

We are looking for motivated medical students to help validate clinical cases on our platform before publication. In this role, you will review case content for medical accuracy, clarity, realism, and educational value. You will check whether the history, physical examination findings, investigations, diagnosis, and management steps are logical, guideline-aligned, and appropriate for the learner level. Validators will also help identify unclear wording, duplicated questions, incorrect classifications, missing key steps, and any details that could confuse students. Your feedback will directly improve the quality of our medical simulations and help ensure that each case provides a safe, realistic, and high-value learning experience. This role is ideal for medical students who enjoy clinical reasoning, medical education, and reviewing cases in detail. It is also a great opportunity to contribute to an innovative educational platform, strengthen your academic profile, and potentially have validated cases published under your name after final review.

Main Responsibilities

We are looking for a new independent trustee who can bring fresh perspectives and objective judgment from outside our immediate membership to join our very committed board. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of charity law and regulation.

Location: Attendance at 4 board meetings (mainly online but with 1-2 in London) each year, and attendance at the Board strategy day.

You may also be required to attend the Council’s annual general meeting and any other general meetings. There may also be additional requirements upon appointment and periodically thereafter for training days in the Council’s office in central London. There will be a full induction as part of the onboarding process.

Remuneration: This is as voluntary unpaid role. Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.

About: The Council of Deans of Health is a membership organisation and charity representing over 100 UK universities and colleges engaged in education and research for nursing, midwifery, and the allied health professions. At any one time, our members educate around 200,000 current and future professionals and carry out research that improves the population’s health and wellbeing.

Our Board of Trustees is responsible for oversight of the administration and management of the Council, which is led by the CEO who is accountable to the Board. The role of the Board includes setting and monitoring the implementation of the Council's strategy, and ensuring its financial sustainability and its compliance with legal requirements. Key responsibilities:

• Contribute to the overall strategic direction of the Council, including taking forward the Council's agreed strategy.
• Ensure the Council complies with its governing document, company law, charity law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
• Oversee the Council’s financial management with the overall aim of achieving financial sustainability.
• Safeguard the organisation and advise on diversification of income to support the Council’s development.
• Work effectively and collaboratively with the Chair and other Board members in providing support and effective scrutiny to the Council's senior staff team.

Some of the essential competencies we are looking for all Trustees:

• Demonstrate a commitment to understanding the Council's business, the sector context and wider policy issues across the four nations of the UK.
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills and an enabling, inclusive approach.
• Ability to think strategically and offer advice, guidance, support and constructive challenge to oversee the effective delivery of the Council’s strategic objectives.
• Demonstrate a track record of collaborative working in an organisation with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Ideally, have experience at senior management or board level in other organisations and experience of charity governance.

What you will contribute

Provide medical consultations and treatment for our Crew, including regular check-ups, routine health screenings, and emergency care when needed

Support the health education to our Crew and host country partners by presenting on applicable health related topics

Ensure the health and safety of the Crew on an ongoing basis, in collaboration with the Captain

Work with and supervise the Hospital Physician(s) to oversee the general health of Ward patients and pre-operative patients

Review patients in Screening, Outpatients, and Rehabilitation as the opportunity arises

Actively maintain and improve the standards of care for our patients

Provide medical direction and advice for the Palliative Care Team

For This Role, You Will Need

M.D. or D.O. with current unrestricted license or recognized medical qualification in your country of origin

Two year’s post-graduate clinical experience required, with a specialization in and actively practicing the past year in General Practice, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine

Fluent in verbal and written communication skills in English

Practices the highest standards of fiscal control

Computer skills, especially in Word and Excel

If the Crew Physician sails with the ship: Successful completion of Basic Training in accordance with STCW A-VI/1-1 to 1-4, as required per Maritime Law

What does the Clinical Trustee role involve? 

As our Clinical Trustee, you will provide expert clinical oversight and strategic counsel to the Board of Trustees. Working closely with the Medical Director and senior clinical leaders, you will support the development of our long‑term clinical strategy, uphold high clinical standards, and ensure strong clinical governance across regulated and unregulated settings.

You will also chair the Clinical Advisory Group and serve as a member of the Risk and Assurance Committee, ensuring robust oversight of clinical quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Alfriston Outreach Service is dedicated to helping older and vulnerable people in Kingston. We provide services such as Hot Lunch delivery, Shopping, and Laundry delivered into people’s homes, with our aim to support older people to remain independent in their own homes. 

About us:

Mind in Kingston supports people with mental health issues and raises awareness within Kingston and surrounding areas. We provide training, supervision, and opportunities for career development. 

Volunteers are extremely valued within our team and a vital part of our service delivery. We welcome applications from people from all walks of life, including those who may have personal or professional experience of mental health. While lived experience can bring valuable perspective, it is not a requirement for volunteering with us. Our focus is on providing volunteers with the training, guidance and supervision they need to feel confident in their roles and to develop their skills. No one should die because they needed first aid and didn’t get it. St John Ambulance teaches people first aid so they can be the difference between life and death, and you can help us do this.

We are seeking Event Doctors to respond and manage emergency calls/incidents at events which may include venues such as stadia, concert halls, motorsports tracks, road races etc. Event doctors shall provide specialist, clinical, social and holistic care while undertaking clinical assessment and interventions in the pre-hospital environment. This will mainly involve working in mobile treatment centres or temporary event medical centres.

Successful candidates will be registered medical practitioners with the GMC, without cautions or restrictions, and hold a licence to practice outside of an approved practice setting.

As a health professional volunteer, you would support our First Aid teams with patients who need more complex assessment or treatment, prescription medications or admission to hospital. 

We would warmly welcome you into our clinical team, provide all your training, uniform and equipment and offer you a great chance to work as part of a friendly prehospital care team, with good clinical support from experienced colleagues. 

You would join our group of over 20 Kent doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and paramedics who already give their time to volunteer with St John Ambulance. 

We have clinicians of all specialities in our teams and are happy to provide clinical supervision for those in training grades. 

We understand how tiring your work shifts can be, and that your duty to your NHS patients will always come first, and we can offer you flexibility around volunteering shifts as well as paid travel to, and accommodation at events.

Through volunteering as a Community Volunteer, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time.

Once we have completed your selection and screening for this role, we will provide you with an induction, as well as invite you to any necessary training sessions. We will also provide you with a supportive environment while you are volunteering with us. Information about our volunteer roles are included in the role descriptions.
