As a Membership and Retail Volunteer you will actively engage with our visitors and encourage them to support WWT as members. Enthusing them with stories of our conservation work and the many benefits of membership, you’ll help us secure the essential support we need to continue our ambitious plans for wetlands conservation.

And if you have an eye for something special and can offer excellent customer service to every one of our visitors, even better. You will also be a support to our retail team and help keep up the great work in offering a wide range of items for them to take home. Experience is always welcomed but not essential as training for this and our membership processes will be provided.

Sooty, the nation’s much-loved bear and a true national treasure, has featured on RNIB’s collection boxes for over 50 years. Thanks to generous public support, these iconic boxes have raised more than £13 million in donations.

We’re looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to join our network of Sooty Box collectors. In this flexible role, you’ll help place new boxes and collect and bank donations from Sooty Boxes in local shops, cafés and other businesses in your area. Whether you volunteer on your own, with a friend or as part of a group, you’ll be making a real difference in your community.

You can give as much or as little time as you like and fit the role around your other commitments.

Please note: Volunteers are expected to use their own transport and ideally should have access to a car. Mileage or public transport costs will be reimbursed.

Our retail stores are the face of our charity on the high-street and in local communities. We have loads of amazing stock donated to us every week, and this all needs to be sorted, tagged and put on the shop-floor for sale!

Making sure our shops look fantastic is another task you can get involved with. You may also be required to help out on the till too, but we will show you how that works during your time volunteering with us. We value the contribution of everyone who supports Barnardo’s.

You will be a friendly face of Barnardo’s by volunteering in one of our shops. It would be great if you could volunteer one shift a week (or even more if you want) but we’re always happy to be flexible to work around your availability.

Key Responsibilities

• Support service users during drop-in sessions, including help with ID applications, form-filling, and accessing essential services.

• Assist in digital literacy workshops by guiding participants through tasks such as using email, booking GP appointments, and navigating benefits portals.

• Provide translation and interpretation support, particularly for Romanian and Romani-speaking participants.

• Help distribute and set up digital devices (e.g. tablets, laptops) and show participants how to use them safely and effectively.

• Carry out brief feedback interviews to support monitoring and evaluation.

Trustees play a vital role in ensuring Airdrie Foodbank meets its core purpose by overseeing the management and administration of the charity and ensuring that the foodbank has a clear strategy in line with our vision and goals.

Key tasks

Fundraising Lead Trustee Responsibilities:

• to work alongside the Trustee board to set our strategic Fundraising goals and track that funds and grants are sought and applied-for to fulfil the charity’s strategy and objectives
• to work with the rest of the Board to plan the level of funds required to ensure the effective running of the charity
• chair the Fundraising sub-committee, consisting of staff and foodbank volunteers
• engage staff and volunteers with the foodbank’s fundraising strategy, emphasising that fundraising is everyone’s responsibility
• to assist the Foodbank staff in the organisation of local fundraising opportunities to support the running of the charity
• to help dovetail our local efforts with Trussell’s national fundraising campaigns and events throughout the year
• to support the staff with the writing of high-quality grant applications that are in line with the charity’s strategy and objectives
• to regularly update the rest of the board at Trustee board meetings, or other communication in between, with relevant information and/or developments regarding fundraising or grant applications.

The Womankind helpline offers emotional support to women struggling with their mental health and past experiences. Helpline volunteers offer empathy and nonjudgmental listening to the women who contact us over the phone and webchat.

Womankind is an established charity helping hundreds of women every year to improve their mental health and wellbeing.  Our wonderful volunteers are the backbone of our organisation. We need you!

Whether you are looking for work experience, community, to learn, develop new skills or fulfil a passion to help other women, volunteer with us!

Training 

Our training comes with over 30 years’ experience of working with women’s mental health and will fully equip you to work on our helpline.

Over 6 sessions, our training covers a range of topics from women’s mental health to sexual violence and domestic abuse.

The dates and structure of our autumn training will be:

• Session One - Friday 10th October – 10am-4pm at our offices in Brunswick Square

• Session Two – Sunday 12th October – 10am-4pm at our offices in Brunswick Square

• Skills Practice - week commencing 13th October - 2-hour remote skills practice at home to be arranged with your training triad

• Session Three - Friday 24th October – 10am-4pm at our offices in Brunswick Square

• Session Four – Sunday 26th October – 10am-4pm at our offices in Brunswick Square

• Skills Practice - week commencing 27th October - 2-hour remote skills practice at home to be arranged with your training triad

• Session Five - Monday 3rd November – 7-9pm online

• Webchat Skills Practice - week commencing 3rd November - 2-hour remote skills practice at home to be arranged with your training triad

• Session Six - Monday 10th November – 7-9pm online

• Post-training Interview – to be arranged on a one-to-one basis after 10th November 

The Role 

Once you have successfully completed the training, you will be offered a place on our helpline. Each volunteer works the same shift every week, with the same volunteers – so you can make friends and support each other on shift!

You can come into our offices to do your shift or work remotely if you have a confidential and quiet space at home.

Your role will be to offer empathic, non-judgemental listening support to the women who contact us on the phone or through our webchat, with calls or chats lasting up to 50 minutes. You will also take more administrative calls, where you will talk about our counselling services and calls where you need to signpost to other services. Our training will fully equip you for this as well.

A three-hour shift includes: 

30 minutes to check in with your supervisor at the beginning 

2 hours taking calls or chats on the helpline 

30-45 minutes to debrief with the other volunteers and your supervisor at the end of your shift

You will also be expected to attend group supervision with all the other volunteers, which runs in the evening on alternating Mondays and Wednesdays each month.

There will always be a supervisor available during your shifts to support you, and we often run extra training to support the work you do on the helpline.

You 

We are looking for volunteers who are enthusiastic and interested in supporting other women to improve their mental health and wellbeing. You will be honest, friendly and reliable with good communication skills, as well as a non-judgmental and patient listener.

The helpline role can be challenging and emotionally demanding at times. Therefore, we need women who have adequate life experience and feel emotionally resilient enough to take on the role. We welcome volunteers with personal experience of mental health and other relevant issues, but we require you to have had a one-year period of stability at least before starting the training.

While most of our helpline opening hours are during the daytime, we have two evenings shifts on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Role Description

We are seeking dedicated innovative thinkers, event superstar planners, and fundraising heroes to join our Events & Fundraising Team at Emerge Worldwide. Our goal is to develop impactful events that generate essential support to protect children and young people from sexual exploitation.

The role will:

• Design and deliver memorable events
• Engage local communities and sponsors
• Promote our mission broadly
• Raise life-changing transformative funds

What are we looking for?

We’re seeking volunteers with experience in Events - designing, researching, planning, delivery, and Community Engagement. We are also seeking volunteers who have fundraising experience including working around sponsorship. 

We are looking for volunteers who have:

● Experience in planning successful events and activities.

● Experience of fundraising in the charity sector is desirable but not essential.

● Reliable, organised with good timekeeping.

● Able to work independently and proactively as well as in a team.

● Clear and confident in communication.

● Excellent working knowledge and comprehension of written English.
