We're looking for a Co-Director to take the lead on Finance, Fundraising and People functions.

Location: Hybrid, Bristol (60% onsite, open to negotiation where adjustments may be required)
Salary: £54,550-£61,245 FTE, depending on experience
Contract: Permanent, 0.8-1.0 FTE (30 or 37.5 hours)
You'll also receive 33 days' annual leave including bank holidays (pro rata if part time), flexible working, an enhanced 5% pension contribution, an individual learning and development budget, clinical supervision and group reflective practice.

About the role

This definitely isn't your everyday, run-of-the-mill Director or CEO role. You'll have a unique opportunity to co-create and collaborate on your own leadership model, alongside the existing Co-Director, with joint responsibility for strategy, performance and culture.

Taking a lead on finance, fundraising, people and HR, internal operations and governance, you'll make sure people, systems and resources are working effectively to deliver on mission and maximise impact.

Together, you'll make co-leadership work by building trust, challenging each other constructively, bringing complementary strengths and sharing accountability. Alongside the Board, team and people with lived experience, you'll build the confidence, capacity and resources Caring in Bristol needs to deliver its ambition and create lasting change.

We're looking for a different kind of leader

You might be an experienced charity leader, or have come up through finance, operations, organisational development, HR or income generation. You may have taken a less conventional route into leadership. We really don't expect you to tick every box.

We're looking for senior leadership experience, the ability to build a sustainable organisation with strong income and people foundations - plus a genuine passion for developing inclusive, high-performing teams. But just as importantly, we want to understand how you lead.

You'll be someone who:

As we continue to grow, we're looking for an experienced Interim HR Manager to help us build on strong foundations and take our people function to the next level, over a defined eight-month period (with the possiblility of extension through mutual agreement).

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations and line managing our HR Officer, you'll lead three connected priorities: building the capability and confidence of our managers; shaping our workforce development strategy, including career pathways for colleagues with lived experience; and making sure we're fully prepared for the employment law changes arriving under the Employment Rights Act 2025. This is a genuine change role with a lasting legacy, you'll help leave the organisation stronger, more capable and better equipped for the future.

What you'll be doing

• Providing expert, pragmatic advice on employee relations matters, and leading complex or contentious casework where genuinely necessary, coaching managers to build their own confidence in handling cases
• Keeping the organisation ahead of the phased implementation of the Employment Rights Act 2025, and advising the policy team on the changes required
• Managing the relationship with our external employment law advisers, briefing tightly and translating advice into workable decisions

What we're looking for

• We're interested in hearing from candidates who have:
• Substantial generalist HR experience at HR Manager or senior HR Business Partner level, including sustained periods as the most senior HR person in an organisation or business unit
• Experience of working in a lived experience-led organisation, or one with a significant peer or lived experience workforce
• A proven track record of building line manager capability, coaching managers through live situations rather than doing the work for them
• Experience developing and implementing a workforce development or HR strategy, including competency frameworks and career pathways
• Demonstrable experience of handling complex and contentious employee relations casework end to end, including matters carrying genuine tribunal risk
• Current, working knowledge of UK employment law, including the Employment Rights Act 2025 and its practical implications for employers
• Experience of working in a lean or fast-growing organisation, operating without a large in-house HR or legal team
• Strong influencing skills with senior colleagues, and excellent judgement on confidentiality, conflicts of interest and escalation
• CIPD Level 5 or above, or equivalent demonstrable experience
• Knowledge of the gambling harms, addiction, health or social welfare sectors, experience of a comparable commissioning transition, and experience of interim or fractional assignments would all be advantageous, as would CIPD Level 7 or Chartered MCIPD status.

About You

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, highly organised and proactive People Assistant to join our fast-paced, friendly People Team. Focusing mainly on the recruitment side of practice, you will act as the first point of contact for all recruitment related queries while supporting managers through the recruitment and onboarding process. This is an exciting time to join our team as you will play a key role in supporting the implementation of a brand new Applicant Tracking System.

You’ll also to support the wider People team, as and when needed, with general HR related queries, including absence and volunteering.

Key Responsibilities

As a vital member of our People team, you will play a central role in delivering a smooth and efficient recruitment experience for all involved. Your responsibilities will include:

• Acting as the first point of contact for all recruitment related queries while monitoring all recruitment inboxes.
• Acting as the primary support for all recruitment administration including requesting right to work checks, drafting offer letters and contracts and requesting references.
• Advertising job and volunteer adverts both internally and externally
• Liaising with recruitment agencies as and when needed.
• Supporting the implementation of our new applicant tracking system (ATS), helping to streamline and modernise our recruitment processes.
• Raising purchase orders and managing goods receipting processes.
• Maintaining accurate HR systems and databases, including updating recruitment trackers and personnel records.
• Working closely with the People Advisor to ensure a seamless, supportive, and efficient People function across the organisation.

About You

You are a proactive, detail-oriented professional with:

• A CIPD level 3 qualification and/or proven experience in HR administration, with a focus on recruitment.
• Experience of delivering excellent customer service in a busy administrative environment
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities with ease.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills—you thrive in a people-focused environment and build positive relationships at all levels.
• A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Confident IT skills, including use of Office 365, HR systems and databases, and cloud based systems.

Due to the nature of this role and recruitment process deadlines, we require someone to work 35 hours a week over 5 days Monday to Friday.

Are you an experienced HR adviser or business partner who likes being in front of line managers, helping them succeed in areas of people management? Do you have a natural flair for training and building relationships with line managers? If so, we need you to bring your HR subject matter expertise and train our line managers on how to deal with the employment demands they are facing today – demands which continue to grow.

In this new role you will design and deliver regular HR and induction training, in person and online, to upskill our line manager group. You must cover topics across the full employment lifecycle including recruitment, induction, performance management, engagement, recognition, disputes, exits and more – boosting confidence and reducing risk to the University.
