We’re looking for a Local Groups Development Officer to support the growth of our community programmes that look to foster humanist community at the local level. You'll help develop aspects of this service delivery within Humanists UK. This is an exciting opportunity to get involved in a significant program, expanding the reach of the organisation within local communities.

What you'll be doing

You'll be part of the Community Services directorate. You'll work with our Head of Groups and Communities, Karen, as well as working closely with other members of the Community Services and People teams.

Our network of Local Groups is central to our work to ensure that people can connect with others, support each other, and contribute to our wider work for a kinder and fairer society.

In your role as the Local Groups Development Officer, you'll support the set-up and development of Humanists UK Local Groups. This includes the recruitment and support of volunteer teams, equipping them with the confidence, skills, knowledge, and resources to sustain their group. You'll also advocate for group needs and concerns, and ensure our volunteers feel valued and recognised, and that the impact of their work is acknowledged across the organisation and community.

Key Tasks & Activities

• Supporting the recruitment, induction, and ongoing support of Local Group volunteer committees

• Working with the Head of Groups and Communities to identify opportunities and locations for new Local Groups

• Contributing to the ongoing development and support of established Local Groups

• Acting as a point of contact for Local Group volunteers

• Supporting Local Groups with internal processes, including setting up events, mailings, social media accounts, and other communications using our CRM system

• Contributing to the creation, development, and review of Local Group volunteer resources

• Recording, monitoring, and reporting on engagement across the network of Local Groups

Some evening work and travel is required for the role.

As a successful candidate

You will have strong organisational skills and attention to detail, and be able to manage a varied workload, balancing volunteer queries and support while ensuring internal processes are followed and systems are used in the most effective way possible.

You will also be a proactive and supportive team player and a self-starter. We are a small team who manage our own work, but value coming together to share ideas, support one another, and support our volunteers.

Salary will be in a range up to £18,000 pa. (£30,000 full time equivalent)

The Senior Finance Officer is a broad new role reporting to the Head of Finance. It provides a brilliant opportunity to learn and develop through contributing to most areas of our small finance team’s work including month-end close, payment run process, finance system administration, monthly budget-holder reporting, year end and audit, fundraising support and investments and banking administration. 

We are looking for a part qualified accountant or equivalent who can bring a good understanding of bookkeeping and double entry. As a role covering broad areas, you will also need a demonstrable understanding of charity accounting technicalities and recommended practice, ideally gained from working in the sector. With a high level of attention to detail, you should be proficient in the use of finance systems, with Advanced Excel skills, and an interest in utilising AI. 

The role includes interaction at all levels, including senior management and our trustee board and requires skills to communicate finance to non-finance stakeholders and good written skills.

Natural Estate Manager - Gilwell Park

About the Role

We’re looking for a Natural Estate Manager to lead and deliver a busy but rewarding programme of conservation work across Gilwell Park, helping to improve habitats, boost biodiversity and create more opportunities for people to connect with nature. Guided by our new 10-year woodland management plan and best-practice conservation methods, you’ll take a hands-on approach to estate maintenance and habitat improvement across the site.

Working both independently and alongside staff teams, volunteers, corporate supporters and young people, you’ll help create meaningful change for nature and for visitors. From practical conservation tasks to wider estate projects, you’ll play a key role in shaping and protecting the natural environment at Gilwell Park.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, proactive community and events fundraiser with great project management and relationship building skills. You’ll be responsible for leading on a varied portfolio of fundraising activity, identifying new supporters, stewarding existing supporters and delivering community fundraising products and campaigns. 

Events and Community Fundraising is an established income stream at Breast Cancer UK but we know there is potential to grow, so we’re investing in proactively developing the area. This role is an opportunity for a talented fundraiser - with at least three years of experience working in Challenge Events and/or Community Fundraising and a strong track record of delivering results – to take a lead on these income streams and build something amazing. Our Youth and Play Practitioners will play a pivotal role in the Children, Young People and Families (CYPF) team, working as a core team of practitioners to ensure the smooth running of our programmes and services. In this role you will be part of a small and dynamic team which delivers a wide range of programmes and activities, both from Tulse Hill Adventure Playground and in conjunction with local schools. The work of the Children, Young People and Families team is diverse and varied. Our current services include open access adventure play and youth activities at our Adventure Playground, school holiday programmes with off-site trips and activities, mentoring, a Young Leaders programme offering paid work experience to young people, and working together with our youth partnerships Building Young Brixton and Lambeth Peer Action Collective.

To support our range of children and young people, our team will be made up of specialist Youth Workers and Play Practitioners bringing in relevant skills and experience. Whilst you will work across all of our Children, Young People and Families services you will have a specific focus:

As a Youth Worker you will:

• Focus on supporting our secondary age cohort
• Plan and run appropriate and engaging activities
• Provide structured interventions to support vulnerable young people
• Work with referral partners to provide additional support and activities
• Foster relationships with families and local schools

As a Play Worker you will:

• Focus on our primary age cohort
• Use your knowledge of Playwork Principles to plan and run appropriate and engaging
  activities
• Foster relationships with families and primary local schools

Both roles will include an element of mentoring, relevant training will be provided to give you the necessary skills to deliver this.

To be successful in this role, you will act as a trusted practitioner in all our service delivery, advocating for children’s right to play throughout our programmes. You will work as part of the team on the delivery and planning of all sessions, ensuring that the children’s and young people’s ideas are central to the construction of a varied and engaging play environment. You will understand the wide-ranging challenges facing young people and will be flexible in adjusting your practice to meet these needs. While practitioners may have a primary focus (primary or secondary age), all staff are expected to work flexibly across all age groups, programmes and delivery model including open access play, targeted youth work, mentoring and school link sessions.

Terms

The role is a full-time (five days per week) on an 18-month fixed-term. The annual salary is £42,193 per annum less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance.

Introduction to Reset

Reset is a bold new incubation designed to dramatically change the lives of some of the most vulnerable children in England today for the better.

Reset exists for children who are on, or at risk of being placed on Deprivation of Liberty orders due to the high risks they face from themselves or others, their complex and intersecting needs, and due to the lack of effective support available.

The children Reset will support are likely to be aged 12 to 18 and face complex challenges that often stem from the impact of traumatic childhood experiences, such as mental ill-health, self-harming, being sexually and/or criminally exploited and getting caught in harmful risk-taking behaviours including the use of harmful substances such as drugs and alcohol.

Reset is determined to ensure that, wherever possible, children are able to thrive back within their own families and/or communities.

Reset’s Coordinator will provide high-quality organisational and administrative support to the Chief Executive and wider founding team, enabling them to work efficiently and to maximum effect.

You will play an important role in keeping the organisation running smoothly day-to-day while driving key projects and priorities across the organisation. Executive Support

Chapter One is a dynamic, growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. 

Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme currently supports around 3,600 children a year. It pairs disadvantaged, struggling five to eight-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who come from over 170 local and national businesses. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability. 

Our Volunteer Engagement Department, which the Volunteer Support Assistant role will be part of, ensures that volunteers have everything that they need to make a success of their reading sessions with pupils.
