About this job

The Head of Experience is a senior cross-organisational leadership role building and leading a new Experience function at the heart of the Engagement and Income Generation directorate.

It exists to change how the organisation understands and responds to the people it exists for. That means identifying where experiences can be improved and creating the conditions to act on it.

The postholder will drive cross-functional collaboration so that audience insight and data consistently inform strategic decisions. They will create the systems and governance that turn insight into action across the breadth of MS experience.

The postholder is accountable for driving measurable improvements in how audiences experience every interaction with us. This builds the conditions for integrated, audience-led engagement at scale, in service of delivering greater impact and sustainable income.

We’re looking for someone who can help create meaningful opportunities for people with lived experience to shape and influence Shelter’s work. You’ll plan and deliver a range of involvement activities, support inclusive recruitment and induction processes, and work closely with participants to support their development, wellbeing and pathways into volunteering and employment. You’ll also provide guidance and training to colleagues on involving people with lived experience effectively, promote best practice across the organisation, and ensure involvement activity is well recorded, evaluated and continuously improved. Through your work, you’ll help ensure lived experience remains at the heart of Shelter’s fight for home.

Principle Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of regional donors, ensuring excellent stewardship and long-term engagement. Enabling supporters to maximise their fundraising potential 

• Monitor and report on income, expenditure, and key performance indicators, including volunteer recruitment and event registrations, managing an income budget of approximately £600k PA.

• Deliver presentations and pitches to schools, community organisations, and businesses. 

• Act as “the face of BWCHC” within your region, developing and acquiring meaningful, long-term relationships

• Grow and strengthen volunteer and ambassador programmes in line with charity processes and procedures. Enhance fundraising volunteers’ skills to act on behalf of the Charity 

• Spend at least 50% of your time working within your region. Plan effectively, develop fundraising products, and collaborate with colleagues across departments to ensure excellent donor stewardship. 

• Maintain strong communication and collaboration across the fundraising department and hospital, balancing relationships effectively while working remotely.

Trusts and other grant-makers are an important source of funding for our charity. As we look ahead, we’re expanding our Trusts fundraising portfolio to meet the growing needs of our programmes. This is where you come in.

As our Trusts Fundraising Officer, you’ll be an inspiring storyteller whose enthusiasm for our work shines through in your writing. You’ll play a key role in researching new funders, crafting compelling funding applications and keeping our supporters engaged with our work. Your work will involve developing case studies and gathering evidence to show the need for our services. This will help secure sustainable funding. You’ll be supported by our experienced Trusts Fundraising Manager to build lasting relationships with funders. Together, you’ll keep them engaged and informed about the positive impact they’re making on the young people we support.

The Trusts Fundraising Officer must be self-motivated, well organised, able to multi-task, have good administration skills and understand the “power of the outdoors”.  Paid or voluntary experience in a fundraising environment is essential.  This is a great opportunity for somebody looking to take the next step in their career, with plenty of scope to develop your skills and experience within a supportive team. Job summary
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive individual to join our team. Job purpose

The Senior Writer will be a highly talented communicator with substantial expertise in creative copywriting, branding and communications, preferably with experience in the charity sector.
