Put simply, there is nowhere else quite like it. Seven acres of park, playgrounds and Grade II listed community buildings, tucked into the heart of Bloomsbury, dedicated entirely to children and families and where no adult can enter without a child.
It has been this way since 1936 and our jobs and potentially yours, as our new Head of Estates, is to protect this sanctuary for children and young people for generations to come.
This isn’t your average Head of Estates role – it’s a role for someone that cares deeply about their work and someone who will thrive on the prospect of developing and protecting this iconic space for children and young people. The prospect of being able to see the tangible impact of your work in bringing joy to thousands of children and families across London, will hold huge appeal.
What you’ll be doing:

• Leading a small, multi-skilled Grounds and Facilities team — recruiting them, developing them, and building a culture they're proud to be part of.
• Overseeing contractors and capital works, from routine repairs to major building projects.
• Sitting on the Senior Management Team to shape the charity's strategic plans.
• Looking after a grounds and facilities budget of c.£400K.
• Acting as one of four Designated Safeguarding Leads, because looking after this site
means looking after the children in it.
Who we’re looking for:
• An inspiring leader, capable of galvanising and getting the best out of our small but agile team – you’ll thrive on managing people, seeing your team as your greatest asset.
• A systems person, who knows that quality systems and structures are key to consistent, high quality facility management
• Someone who sees the bigger picture but also knows how to balance this with a hands on operational approach when needed.
• Someone with an exceptional attention to detail – you’ll see things that others don’t, set standards at the highest level and help others understand why quality matters.
• An experienced facilities professional, capable of balancing the demands of managing a complex, public space and heritage site.
• A team player – someone with the conviction to own what they do but who also understands
the value of working and learning from those around them.
A safe space for children and young people to learn, grow and have fun since 1936.

Citizens Advice offers confidential advice online, over the phone, and in person, for free. Through our national network of charities, we give people the knowledge and the confidence they need to find their way forward – whoever they are, and whatever their problem.
The role
As Wales Insights Officer you will support efforts to achieve collective impact between our national organisation and the local Citizens Advice network across Wales. You will strengthen engagement, collaboration and collective communication, build insight from the network and colleagues across the national organisation and assess and report on the impact of collective actions across Wales.
This is an exploratory, fixed-term role, made possible by generous funding from the Moondance Foundation, offering an exciting opportunity to deliver impact for Citizens Advice work in Wales and deepen relationships and communication between local, regional and national levels to deliver on our shared mission.
In 2024, local offices in Wales came together to apply for and win regional and national grant funding from the Welsh Government - Advicelink Cymru (the Single Advice Fund) - a programme previously administered via the national organisation. This important success created an opportunity for reshaping the way that the national and local organisations work together, including work across regions, to engage with each other, deliver impact and avoid duplication.
Based within our Wales Team, this role offers critical additional capacity and experience to deliver on our ambitions to enhance the way we work together with the local network, add value, ensure efficient and coordinated actions, and ensure we are responsive to new and emerging opportunities to grow our impact. By building relationships, gathering feedback, insights and impact, and facilitating opportunities to work together we can provide meaningful opportunities to facilitate learning and deliver collective impact. This role will:
- Support relationship building that strengthens our approach to working alongside the network in Wales on strategic priorities.
- Work alongside the team to capture insights and opportunities arising from local practice and our work together and use this to build wider awareness, understanding and strengthened opportunities for collaboration
- Use skills that enable you to assess, measure and support reporting on the impact of work together across Wales
- With support from the team you will co-lead a programme of communication, activity and events - alongside the Wales network and relevant national communication and engagement teams - that build engagement, support our ambitions, and raise our profile in Wales with key stakeholders.
You will have a track record of building strong relationships, working across organisational boundaries, capturing and recording insight, and delivering strong communication and engagement in the context of local, regional or national charities.
We are looking for a highly skilled individual with strong relational and communication skills, curiosity, and ambition to achieve real change for people in Wales via Citizens Advice local and national work.
To apply
Please submit an anonymous CV and cover letter that demonstrates how you meet the following essential criteria:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the proven ability to write and produce engaging communications.
- Experience of building strong relationships with the ability to grow and maintain working relationships with a wide range of geographically dispersed groups and individuals.
- Good experience of developing and using a range of different communication techniques, processes and procedures.
- Good experience of analysing engagement data from a range of tools (intranet, email, collaboration tools such as Slack).
Do you want to work for an organisation that makes a difference, every single day, to people from all walks of life? The people that turn to Citizens Advice need help overcoming an obstacle in their lives – from debt to evictions to trouble at work – and you can be key to them getting the support they need in the quickest, easiest, and most effective way.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is of strategic importance within the organisation and recognised as integral to all we do as a service.
Central to pursuing our EDI mission is building diverse and inclusive teams in which everyone has a sense of belonging. We believe inclusion is a social justice issue - a principle that underpins our all EDI work. To that end, we particularly welcome applications from people we would like to see better represented in our organisation and sector - people of colour, LGBTQ+ people and disabled people. We follow the social model of disability.
