Chief Finance Officer

We are seeking a Chief Finance Officer who will provide strategic financial leadership, playing a pivotal role in securing the long-term sustainability of this nationally significant Cathedral.

Position: Chief Finance Officer

Salary: £60,000 pro rata

The Role

This is a pivotal senior leadership role with responsibility for the overall financial health, sustainability and strategic direction of the Cathedral. Working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Chapter and senior colleagues, you will provide robust financial leadership while supporting income generation, investment planning and effective use of resources across a complex charity operation.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading financial strategy, planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting across all Cathedral entities
• Overseeing monthly management accounts, statutory reporting and audit processes
• Managing financial risk, cash flow forecasting and investment of liquid funds
• Supporting and advising trustees and committees with clear financial analysis
• Identifying and developing new income streams including commercial activity, grants and fundraising
• Providing financial oversight for new projects and strategic initiatives
• Ensuring compliance with Charity Commission and Church of England financial requirements
• Managing and developing the finance team
• Overseeing IT strategy and third party service providers to ensure value for money

About You

You will be a qualified accountant with senior level experience and the confidence to operate both strategically and hands on within a values led organisation.

You will bring:

• A recognised accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA
• Recent senior financial leadership experience, ideally within a charity or heritage setting
• Strong commercial awareness and experience of income generation
• Proven expertise in budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
• Experience of financial risk management and investment decision making
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders
• A collaborative leadership style with strong people management skills
• The ability to manage competing priorities and multiple projects effectively
• Experience of Xero or the ability to learn new systems quickly

You do not need to be a member of the Church of England but should be in sympathy with the organisation’s mission and values.

The Cathedral is a living, working place of worship that has been at the centre of life in Chichester for over nine centuries. Main Duties

• Develop and implement the global philanthropy strategy as part of the overall fundraising strategy, liaising with senior leadership, programme leads, communications and finance to ensure ClientEarth can maximise the potential income from major donors.
• Develop, implement and achieve relevant KPIs and financial targets for the philanthropy team and lead on the production of appropriate reports for senior management and the board of trustees.
• Using the strategy (organisational and fundraising) the Head of Philanthropy will personally manage and support senior staff on holding income-yielding high-level relationships.

We are delighted to be partnering with Hornet Services Sailing Club, a not-for-profit members’ Club providing high-quality and affordable sailing, marina and social facilities for serving and veteran members of the Armed Forces and MOD civil servants. The Club operates a 180-berth marina, a busy clubhouse with a 7-day a week bar and restaurant, a varied programme of formal and social events, leased and listed buildings (including Grade 2* listed), and boat storage facilities.

With 500 members, 180 berth holders and an annual turnover of circa £1.1m, the new Club General Manager will be the most senior paid staff member and hold full responsibility for the Club’s performance, financial sustainability and day-to-day delivery. Working closely with the Commodore, Flag Officers and Committee, and supported by a management team, you will shape the overall member experience while ensuring the Club operates safely, efficiently and in line with its values and traditions.

This is a broad, hands-on leadership role where no two days are the same. You will oversee marina operations, hospitality services, estate and facilities management, governance and compliance, staff leadership and member engagement. You will have genuine scope to influence standards, develop people, improve systems and processes and ensure the long-term sustainability of a much-loved organisation.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

• Relevant professional experience, including the management of a multi-functional organisation and strategic business planning and delivery
• Facilities management, including overseeing infrastructure and maintenance projects
• Strong financial management capability, including ownership of budgets of circa £1million
• A working knowledge of employment law, HR best practice, GDPR and staff development.
• Comprehensive understanding of bar and catering principles
• Experience of sailing, marina or waterside operations (highly beneficial, but not essential)

The role

As Head of Operations, you will lead all operational functions of Foxglove. You will ensure that our finance, HR, legal compliance, fundraising, systems and internal processes enable the organisation to carry out its mission effectively. You’ll work across Foxglove and closely with leadership, as well as with external partners to build a resilient and well-governed organisation, able to manage growth and complexity while staying mission driven. This role manages one member of staff and multiple consultants.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Financial Management & Accounting

1.Oversee financial operations: budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, expenditure controls, financial reporting, payroll.

2.Ensure compliance with accounting standards, audit requirements and donor / funder financial reporting obligations.

3.Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, banks, and financial service providers.

4.Ensure appropriate and best practice financial policies and controls are in place. 

5.Ensure financial risk is identified and managed appropriately.

Fundraising & Development

1.Contribute to the organisation’s fundraising strategy in collaboration with the Co-Executive Directors and Head of Strategy.

2.Ensure systems are in place to track and manage grants, philanthropic donations, and other income streams.

3.Support the preparation of funding proposals and reports and ensure accurate and timely reporting to funders.

4.Support relationship management with key donors, foundations and partners.

Operational Systems & Processes

1.Develop and maintain efficient operational processes and systems (e.g. finance, HR, IT, data protection, office management).

2.Ensure proper policies and procedures are in place for procurement, vendor management, travel & expenses, and record-keeping.

3.Oversee the infrastructure that supports remote / hybrid working, ensuring tools and systems support collaboration, security, and productivity.

We are seeking an experienced humanitarian health operations professional to join our team. As our new Operations Manager you will join a newly created Operations function and play a key role in its development and success. Our operations are growing rapidly and we need someone who can thrive in providing excellent operational management alongside developing our systems and processes. You will manage a portfolio of programmes and responses both from the HQ and in the field.

Humanitarian health needs are growing. UK-Med is an NGO providing emergency health support in times of crisis and humanitarian emergencies. We provide clinical support, as well as training and capacity building for health professionals around the world, with particular focus on countries vulnerable to outbreaks, natural disasters or with weakened health systems due to complex emergencies. As a key partner of the UK Emergency Medical Team (EMT), we work closely with DFID and the WHO, but we are also growing our own programmes. Our work has never been more vital, with disease outbreaks and disasters becoming more frequent, complex and severe.

We provide humanitarian health surge support to health systems facing exceptional challenges. Our responses can range from individuals or small teams of technical experts providing advice and capacity building through to a full field hospital providing primary healthcare and surgical interventions.
