Background information
About us:
National Voices is the leading coalition of health and social care charities in England. We have more than 200 members covering a diverse range of health conditions and communities, connecting us with the experiences of millions of people. We work together to strengthen the voice of patients, people with Lived Experience, unpaid carers, their families and the voluntary organisations that work for them.
Our mission:
We advocate for a more equitable and person-centred health and care, shaped by the people who use and need it the most.
We do this by:
- Understanding and advocating for what matters to people, especially those living with health conditions and groups who experience inequalities
- Finding common cause across communities and conditions by working with member charities and those they support
- Connecting and convening charities, decisions makers and citizens to work together to change health and care for good.
Our five-year strategy:
In September 2024 we published a new five-year strategy that was co-produced with our staff, our member charities, our Lived Experience Partners and our key stakeholders. This set out three clear goals:
- End unequal access
By addressing the barriers experienced by those facing the worst outcomes, we will find solutions that improve care for all.
- Transfer power to people and communities
As a leader in co-production, we will help communities to work with system leaders at national and neighbourhood level to make big decisions together. This will maximise the skills and capabilities of patients, ensuring care is truly person-centred.
- Shift the measures of success
By campaigning for better patient experience and outcomes metrics, we can ensure that what matters to people becomes the key measure of success for the NHS.
In the first two years of the strategy we have already made big strides. For example, our work encouraging the Government to focus on “getting the basics right” has seen major policy initiatives designed to fix access to primary care and the 8am rush. Similarly, our work on the experience of waiting for elective care has seen the introduction of the first ever set of minimum standards for waiting.
Our work on the 10 Year Plan, and on the Quality Strategy, has also seen both patient experience and outcome measures given much greater prominence in how the NHS judges success and National Voices has now been commissioned by NHS England to help design the future of patient feedback mechanisms.
We have also successfully campaigned for funding formulas to be revised to enable the NHS to directly address the inverse care law and tackle the impact of health inequalities head on.
But there are challenges ahead, not least the role patients and communities play directly in co-producing improvement. With ICBs under huge financial pressures, and so much change in the health and care system, we need to make sure every piece of work we deliver is of the highest quality and adds real value. This is the only way to help others across the sector understand the value that people with Lived Experience offer to problem solving processes and creating better and more inclusive solutions.

Job description
Stella Maris is the official maritime charity of the Catholic Church. We are looking for a Regional Port Chaplain for the West Coast of Scotland to support seafarers, fishers and their families.
In this unique and rewarding role, you'll be the welcoming face of Stella Maris in your region, visiting ships, listening to crew members, and offering practical, pastoral and spiritual support to anyone in need, regardless of faith or background.
About the role
No two days are the same. You might spend the morning visiting ships and listening to crew members' stories, help someone contact their family back home, support a seafarer in crisis, or offer a quiet moment of prayer on deck.
You'll also recruit and support a team of volunteers, work closely with other maritime charities and local partners, and build strong relationships with parishes, dioceses, and port authorities. You'll be part of a nationwide network of Stella Maris chaplains, supported through regular meetings, retreats and professional development opportunities.
Key responsibilities
- Visit ships regularly to meet seafarers and fishers, responding to their pastoral, practical and spiritual needs.
- Provide practical help such as transport, communication access, and emergency or crisis support.
- Offer spiritual care to Catholic seafarers and facilitate the religious needs of those from other faiths.
- Recruit, train and support Stella Maris volunteers.
- Work collaboratively with other maritime charities.
- Maintain strong relationships with local parishes, the Diocese of Nottingham, and port stakeholders such as the Harbour Master, shipping agents and welfare committees.
- Support local fundraising and awareness initiatives alongside the charity's national team.
About you
You'll be someone who takes joy in helping others. You don't need maritime experiences, what matters most is your empathy and ability to offer pastoral support in practical ways.
You may come from a background in chaplaincy, parish ministry, community work or social care. You'll share our commitment to upholding the dignity of every seafarer and fisher.
We improve the lives of seafarers and fishers through our network of local chaplains and seafarer centres, expert information, advocacy, and support.

We are working with a well-established UK charity to recruit an experienced Interim Head of Internal Audit for an initial six-month contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who can bring a pragmatic, collaborative and business-partnering approach to internal audit. Rather than simply identifying risks and control weaknesses, you will work closely with teams across the organisation to understand how functions operate, improve processes and develop practical recommendations that work within the culture of the charity.
A key initial priority will be supporting a review of the fundraising function, alongside helping shape and deliver the wider internal audit programme.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and deliver the organisation’s internal audit programme.
- Undertake a key fundraising audit, reviewing processes, risks, controls and ways of working.
- Review functions across the organisation and identify practical opportunities to strengthen procedures and improve effectiveness.
- Work as a trusted business partner to senior leaders and operational teams, providing constructive challenge and support.
- Develop clear, proportionate recommendations that recognise the organisation’s culture and operating environment.
- Track audit recommendations and support teams with their implementation.
- Provide assurance and reporting to senior leadership and relevant committees.
- Help further develop the organisation’s approach to internal audit and assurance going forward.
About you
We are looking for an experienced Internal Audit professional who:
- Has strong experience delivering risk-based internal audits, ideally within a charity or not-for-profit environment.
- Has experience reviewing fundraising operations or other complex operational functions.
- Takes a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach rather than focusing solely on governance and controls.
- Is an excellent business partner, able to build relationships and bring people with them.
- Is culturally aware and able to adapt their approach to different teams and stakeholders.
- Can operate independently and confidently engage with senior leadership.
- Ideally holds a relevant internal audit or accounting qualification such as CIA, MIIA, ACCA or CIMA.
This is a fully remote six-month assignment offering the opportunity to make a tangible impact on how internal audit supports and adds value across the organisation.
Head of Philanthropy
Prostate Cancer UK
Location: Hybrid – a combination of remote and in-person working at our London Bridge office at least 4 days a month.
Permanent and full-time role
Salary: Band 6 range of £60,250 - £70,750 pa
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in the UK - stealing over 12,000 of our dads, grandads, brothers and friends every year.
As the largest men’s health charity in the UK, our ambition is clear: to create a world where no man dies from prostate cancer. And this is how we’re making that happen. We are the biggest public funder of prostate cancer research, investing millions to revolutionise testing, treatment, and care. We’re blazing a trail to a screening programme that could save thousands of lives with regular, accurate tests for all men at risk. And we work tirelessly to spread the word about risk and offer specialist support to people living with the disease.
This is an exciting and pivotal moment for high value fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK. Through our £100 million Raise the Game appeal, we are accelerating our progress over the next 5 years, to transform how men and their families navigate prostate cancer. We are now seeking a new Head of Philanthropy to lead the strategic direction and performance of the philanthropy team, ensuring that we deliver ambitious, long-term and sustainable income growth in line with our priorities. You will also cultivate your own major donor portfolio, and work with other senior leaders across the Philanthropy, Appeals and Partnerships team, to ensure a coordinated approach in driving a culture of excellence, accountability, and donor focus across all fundraising activity.
About you
You are an experienced, collaborative fundraiser and people leader, who thrives in ambitious organisations and the major gifts arena. You’ll bring a strong track record of securing six-figure gifts and above, alongside the experience of designing and activating robust strategies and overseeing operational excellence that turns ambition into impact. A skilled and compelling communicator, you build trusted relationships easily and confidently with donors, colleagues and partners alike. You’re comfortable navigating the new and uncertain, bringing flexibility, curiosity and adaptability to a changing environment.
These qualities will be key to building credibility and strong relationships across the organisation and beyond. Experience in health or medical fundraising would be valuable, but it’s not essential. Our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
At Prostate Cancer UK we’re committed to righting health inequalities across the UK, starting with those faced by Black men. This includes ground-breaking research into Black men's risk and working with communities directly to overcome barriers to the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. To make this happen, we're dedicated to being an inclusive, proactive organisation, as we strive to be Allies to Black communities. We’ll achieve this by advocating and working alongside those communities to promote change. We're also working to be Allies to each other, not only protected groups. In 2024, we launched our New Allyship Training Programme. All colleagues at Prostate Cancer UK will be trained to act and identify as an Ally.
We've also signed Business in the Community’s Race at Work Charter, as a dedication to our Black health equity work and wider EDI priorities. As a signatory, we're responsible and accountable for driving positive change.
Our people networks
We’re continuously learning more about the needs of our colleagues, and have three amazing People Networks, sponsored by our Leadership team:
- Pride – A safe space where LGBTQ+ colleagues – and our allies – can share their diverse lived experiences, celebrate LGBTQ+ culture and history, and create new ideas about how our organisation can be more inclusive and representative of LGBTQ+ people
- Mind and Body – Here to increase awareness, promote wellbeing and support colleagues affected by neurodiversity, mental health problems, disability and long-term illness
- Culture Club – Here to increase awareness and celebrate the different cultures and beliefs that we have in the organisation, so that we all have our cultures felt and feel welcomed
This is a career defining opportunity to work with us and you’ll see your efforts pay off as we give men and their families the power to navigate prostate cancer. About CARE
CARE International is a global humanitarian organisation leading the fight to end poverty in the world’s most challenging situations. Women and girls are at the centre of our work, because we cannot overcome poverty and inequality until all people have equal rights and opportunities. We know that when a crisis erupts, women are often the first to pick up the pieces, so we work alongside women, so they have the power to make change where it’s needed most. Founded in 1945, CARE currently works in over 100 countries and last year alone reached 53.4 million people through nearly 1,500 projects.
