About this role and your main responsibilities
We are looking for a compassionate, collaborative and creative leader to head up our work with members. Everyone on the team is here for our members, but you will lead the way in ensuring everything we do is driven by what members need, now and in the future, to help them develop, grow and thrive. You’ll also help ensure our members have a great experience whenever they are accessing our support and services.
As a member of the senior leadership team, you’ll actively contribute towards its collective work in driving organisational performance and success, including growing investment in our work so we can make an even bigger difference for our members and the communities they serve.

Other information
The role will involve regular travel across England, Scotland and Wales to raise the organisation’s profile and engage with members, partners and key stakeholders.
There is flexibility on your location given the requirement to travel and that your office will be home-based. You will need to travel to in-person quarterly team meetings (usually in London or the north of England) and to Board meetings which alternate between online and London.
It is expected that travel will be by public transport and easy access to the rail network is therefore required to ensure journeys can be made sustainably.
This is a full-time position, 37 hours per week. We use a flexi-time system with core hours 10am-3pm, and are committed to being a flexible, supportive and understanding employer. This is a permanent position with a probationary period of three months.

What we’re looking for in our Health and Safety Officer:

- NEBOSH general certificate (or equivalent) and membership of a relevant professional body
- Significant experience (3+ years post qualification) in a similar health & safety role, ideally in public sector, facilities, or charity setting

Role overview
Shine supports a community of over 15,000 members living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, including 10,000 adults (25+).
You will be delivering high-quality support and creating opportunities for adults living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus and their carers, supporting Shine members to lead healthy, independent, and fulfilling lives by improving condition management and fostering connections within the Shine community.

We’re currently looking to welcome a new Communications and Campaigns Officer to join our team at the Society of Authors (SoA) which is the UK's largest trade union for all types of writers, illustrators and literary translators. We’ve been advising authors and speaking out for the profession since 1884.
Role overview
To support and deliver the internal and external communications and campaigns with the goal of enhancing the SoA’s profile, engage stakeholders, and promote key initiatives. The successful candidate will have at least two years’ experience in content creation, media and policy monitoring, digital marketing, and multimedia communications across a range of channels, including newsletters and social media. Objectives • Help to ensure consistent, high-quality communications and campaigns across all channels. • Provide support for brand visibility and audience engagement through digital marketing. • Provide support for delivering content via The Author magazine and outgoing mailers. • Support organisational campaigns, events, and key initiatives. • Monitor media coverage and policy developments, and evaluates website and communications performance.
Key responsibilities
• Media monitoring and reporting: monitor media for relevant coverage and compile regular media reports and summaries, maintaining media contact lists and databases.
• The Author magazine and mailers: liaise with The Author magazine production team, contributors and internal departments, support with the production schedules and deadlines. Events are one of the main ways we support, inform and bring together the illustration community.
You will:
- Shape and oversee the annual programme of talks, workshops, networking events and professional development activities.
- Manage the events budget and make effective use of available resources.
- Coordinate colleagues, guest speakers and external contributors.
- Ensure the programme offers a strong balance of business support, professional development, community and inspiration.
- Make events welcoming, accessible and relevant to a broad range of illustrators.
- Use events to support member engagement, retention and recruitment.

Supporting members
Our members come to us for trusted advice on the opportunities and challenges they face throughout their careers.
You will:
- Build a strong working understanding of the professional issues affecting illustrators, including business practice, licensing, contracts, pricing and professional standards.
- Support the team in responding to enquiries accurately, clearly and with empathy.
- Identify recurring issues and ensure they inform our events, resources and wider work.
- Build trusted relationships with members and act as an approachable and knowledgeable representative of the AOI.
You do not need to arrive with detailed knowledge of every issue affecting illustrators, but you will need to be curious, able to learn quickly and confident adapting your experience to a specialist creative community.
Working across the AOI
As a small organisation, we work closely across teams and support one another.
You will:
- Work with colleagues across communications, campaigning, awards and other areas of the AOI.
- Contribute ideas and insight to organisational planning and shared projects.
- Ensure membership priorities are understood across the organisation.
- Work closely with the CEO, who will lead strategic partnerships during the maternity-cover period.
- Act as an enthusiastic ambassador for the AOI, our members and the wider illustration community.

Context of role:
The Outreach Officer plays a key role in raising awareness of services, strengthening community
partnerships and supporting the delivery of high-quality bereavement support activities across the
region. The postholder will engage with local networks, coordinate events, and support volunteers while ensuring effective monitoring, reporting and continuous improvement.
