Essential Skills

Together we want to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence and be inspired through their cadet experience.

The 999 Club is a small charity doing big things with local people facing homelessness. For over 30 years we’ve been in the heart of Deptford providing warm welcomes and wraparound services ensuring those who need us are given the best chance of leaving homelessness behind for good.
Our Gateway Drop-In Centre offers nutritious meals, laundry and medical facilities, showers, IT access, phone charging , a safe space to rest and a dedicated Women’s Sanctuary.
When members feel ready, our team of expert staff are on hand to support them into suitable accommodation where possible, secure income via paid work or benefits, and provide immigration signposting for those who need it. Once housed, our Move+ programme continues to work with them to ensure they settle into new accommodation with the knowledge, skills, community and hope required to thrive in their new life.
We also run The Bridge, a free six-week evening mental health course open to anyone in the community experiencing mental distress. The programme provides a practical toolkit to support long-term mental wellbeing.
JOB OVERVIEW AND OBJECTIVES
This role will play a vital role in advancing 999 Club’s ambitious plans to enhance its status, reputation, and support among both existing and wider audiences. At this pivotal moment in the charity’s history, the postholder will work closely with the Head of Fundraising and Communications and the Members’ Committee to co-develop and implement a bold new communications and marketing strategy.
Building on a recent organisational rebrand, this role will ensure that the voices of those with lived experience remain central to the organisation’s messaging and identity. A key focus will be strengthening internal and external communication, uniting our diverse membership—which includes staff, clients, volunteers, trustees, and supporters—while also reaching new audiences through social media, direct marketing, PR, and media outreach.
A major priority will be the relaunch and expansion of the 999 Club’s Membership Scheme and Champions Programme, designed to deepen awareness and support for 999 Club across Southeast London and beyond. We’re a small, dedicated and highly effective team of seven full-time staff and five volunteers.

Experience of managing website CMS, basic HTML
Experience in developing and managing newsletter strategy to drive engagement and support campaign goals
Strong understanding of social media, particularly X, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, including best practice and trends
Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Premiere Pro, Photoshop, InDesign, and After Effects
Hands-on experience shooting video content for campaigns or social media
Experience of producing impactful copy for campaigns, including on sensitive and nuanced issues

Devise and ensure delivery of Big Brother Watch’s digital strategy & communications calendar, encompassing social media, website, and email, working closely with the Head of Advocacy

Communications and Engagement Officer

Role: Communications and Engagement Officer
Hours: Part-time, 3 days / 22.5 hours per week. We will consider flexible working.
Annual Salary: £26,000 to £28,000 pro rata per year depending on experience.

As Communications and Engagement Officer, you will support the implementation of our digital strategy by driving digital reach, keeping the community engaged, and supporting events that keep our charity visible and relevant.
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience of generating and delivering engaging online content, such as social media graphics and posts, short-form video content, newsletters and other promotional material.
Experience of communicating with audiences effectively at different levels both in person and online, ensuring outputs are accessible and engaging for relevant stakeholders and communities.
Experience of managing diverse online systems and programmes, such as Wordpress and Meta, including engagement data reporting and search engine optimisation (SEO).
Experience and an understanding of GDPR regulations.
Experience of delivering events, including venue logistics, registrations, access needs, risk checks and follow up communication.
Experience of delivering volunteer strategies, including volunteer management best practice within a community setting.
Understanding of the issues faced by LGBTQIA+ people, including those who are Black or from other communities of colour, disabled people and people with insecure immigration status, and a commitment to intersectional practice.
