Help Shape the Future of a Charity Changing Women's Lives

At My Sisters' House Women's Centre, we believe every woman deserves the opportunity to live free from abuse, rebuild her confidence, and create a safer future for herself and her family.

For more than 14 years, we have supported women across West Sussex facing domestic abuse, trauma, poor mental health, multiple disadvantage, and complex life challenges. Around 2,000 women turn to us each year at a time of crisis or hardship, and our trauma-informed services provide practical support, advocacy, counselling, wellbeing activities, and pathways to long-term recovery.

We're now looking for an experienced Head of Finance to join our Executive Team and help keep our organisation financially strong, sustainable and ambitious for the women we serve. This is more than a finance role — it's an opportunity to play a key part in an organisation where every decision contributes to improving women's safety, wellbeing and life chances.

The Role

Overseeing an annual budget of circa £1m, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of MSH's financial management. Working closely with the CEO, Board of Trustees, Finance Committee and Senior Leadership Team, you will help guide financial decision-making and ensure resources are used effectively to maximise impact.

You will lead the day-to-day finance function, including line management of one part-time Finance Officer, while contributing to the wider strategic development of the charity. This role suits someone comfortable with both the detail and the bigger picture — producing management accounts, overseeing financial controls and audit processes, and contributing to strategic discussions about future services, funding and organisational development.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading and managing the charity's finance function.
  • Producing accurate and timely management accounts, forecasts and financial reports.
  • Supporting the CEO, Finance Committee and Board of Trustees with financial insight and strategic advice.
  • Leading budget-setting, monitoring and long-term financial planning.
  • Managing cash flow, reserves and financial risk.
  • Supporting funding applications, tenders and grant reporting with robust financial modelling.
  • Ensuring effective financial controls, systems, policies and compliance arrangements are in place.
  • Leading the annual audit process and preparation of statutory accounts.
  • Overseeing payroll and pension processes.
  • Supporting budget holders to understand and manage their budgets confidently.
  • Identifying opportunities for efficiencies, improvement and sustainable growth.

What You'll Bring

  • Significant experience in a senior finance role within the charity, public or not-for-profit sector, or a comparable environment.
  • A professional finance qualification such as ACCA, CIMA or ACA, or qualified by experience with equivalent demonstrable financial management ability.
  • Strong expertise in management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial controls and reporting.
  • Experience working with auditors, trustees and senior stakeholders.
  • The ability to translate financial information into clear, practical advice for non-finance colleagues.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience leading and developing finance systems and processes.
  • Most importantly, a belief in the power of specialist women's services and motivation to make a difference through your work.

What's on Offer

  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
  • A supportive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • 28 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays (pro rata).
  • Employer pension contribution of 3%.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • The opportunity to influence key strategic decisions.
  • A meaningful role where your expertise directly contributes to saving lives.
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • The chance to be part of a respected charity with strong local partnerships and a growing reputation for innovation and excellence.

Additional Information

Please note: this post is open to women only under the Equality Act 2010, Schedule 3, Paragraph 27, and Schedule 9, Part 1, as a Genuine Occupational Requirement. Given the nature of the specialist services supporting women affected by domestic abuse, trauma and violence against women and girls, being a woman is an occupational requirement for this role.

Closing date: Friday 4th September 2026, 5.00pm. Applications may close sooner if an ideal candidate is found beforehand.

Interviews will take place the week commencing 7th September 2026, and a candidate's notice period will be taken into account regarding a realistic start date.
