This role
We are seeking a commercially minded senior leader to establish and lead a new Life Sciences Partnership Function for the South West Secure Data Environment (SWSDE). Serving more than five million people across six Integrated Care Board areas, the SWSDE enables approved researchers to securely access and analyse health and care data to support research and innovation that benefits patients and populations.
This is an opportunity to shape how the South West works with the life sciences sector to develop research, innovation and commercial partnerships. Working across the NHS, academia and industry, you will build and lead a pipeline of partnership opportunities, taking them from initial engagement through to agreed programmes that deliver clear value for partners and the health and care system.
You will play a key role in developing the frameworks, commercial models and ways of working needed to support effective collaboration between the NHS, academia and industry, while maintaining high standards of privacy, security, ethics and public trust.
As Secure Data Environments continue to evolve across the UK, you will help define how organisations work with life sciences partners to use health data safely and responsibly to support research and innovation.
The role forms part of the SWSDE leadership and delivery model and is hosted by Health Innovation South West on behalf of the SWSDE, working closely with Health Innovation West of England and regional NHS and academic partners.
Role profile:
Key success factors
· The Senior Life Sciences Partnership Lead will lead the development and delivery of the Life Sciences Partnership Function for the SWSDE. The postholder will originate, develop and convert high impact partnerships between the SWSDE, NHS organisations and the life science sector that utilise the functionality and capability of the SWSDE safely, ethically and efficiently to deliver benefit for partners and the population of the South West region.
· The role will act as a key interface between the SWSDE and external partners, ensuring opportunities for partnership working between the SWSDE and the life science sector are translated into deliverable, governance-ready programmes that create measurable research, innovation and economic benefits. This will include providing NHS organisations involved in the SWSDE to develop effective partnership working with the life science sector, including pricing approaches, contract development and commercial operating models that enable sustainable collaboration with industry partners.
· This role reflects emerging functions being developed across other SDEs, Trusted Research Environments (TREs) and regional data innovation ecosystems, where specialist life science sector leadership expertise is required to complement technical, governance and academic routes.
· The postholder will develop commercially and operationally viable proposals for consideration through SWSDE governance. The role will not determine access to data. All projects will remain subject to feasibility assessment, information-governance requirements, demonstration of public benefit and independent Data Access Committee approval.
Responsibilities
1. Leading strategic partnership development
Lead the development and delivery of the Life Sciences Partnership Strategy for the SWSDE, building the South West’s distinctive position as a preferred regional partner for data-enabled life science sector research and innovation partnerships.

Work with the wider SWDE team to identify and resolve barriers to partnership conversion and maintain momentum across the partnership lifecycle: Find / Receive / Develop / Secure / Deliver.
Develop and deploy pricing models, cost recovery approaches, commercial negotiations and contracting arrangements in line with SWSDE strategy and governance frameworks.
Support NHS organisations and SWSDE partners to develop and adopt effective and sustainable models of partnership working with the life science sector and the SWSDE, including providing expert advice on contracting mechanisms, commercial frameworks and partnership agreements.
Work with SWSDE finance, legal, information governance and operational colleagues to develop robust partnership agreements, contractual documentation and commercial propositions that support scalable and repeatable approaches to partnership delivery.
5. Leading effective governance and assurance
Ensure all partnership activity aligns with SafeGUARDs, information governance, ethics and NHS standards, working closely with SWSDE governance and operational leads to maintain public trust and transparency.
Ensure commercial agreements and partnership arrangements align with SWSDE governance, NHS regulatory requirements and agreed organisational responsibilities across host organisations.
Ensure effective communication and contribution into SWSDE governance and reporting processes.
6. Leading people and partners in a matrix management structure

Citizens UK
Citizens UK is the UK’s biggest, most diverse and most effective people-powered alliance. We bring communities and local organisations together to work on issues that matter; from campaigning for zebra crossings on dangerous roads, to reforming the immigration system, to the Living Wage campaign. We have a track record of winning change through hundreds of local and national campaigns. We know everyday people have the ability to shape the world around them. We believe that through developing local leaders, we can drive nationwide change and create community-led solutions to big and small problems.
Living Wage Foundation
The Living Wage movement began in 2001, after Citizens UK brought together communities in East London to discuss poverty and low pay. The campaign grew in momentum and soon required a mechanism to recognise employers who wanted to join the movement, which saw the establishment of the Living Wage Foundation in 2011.
Still part of Citizens UK today, the Living Wage Foundation (LWF) continues to work with community organisations to make sure the voices of both workers and businesses are part of the Living Wage movement. We now work with over 16,000 employers, benefitting over 490,000 people and winning over £4bn of better wages for people who need it most.
Citizens UK works with a broad base of institutions across the political spectrum. At the Living Wage Foundation, we take the same deliberately broad-based approach and accredit all organisations who pay the real Living Wage to their directly and indirectly employed staff and are committed to tackling in work poverty. As a team we work across a range of industries and sectors to achieve this mission. We seek pragmatic coalitions in order to progress specific campaigns, and partnership around a particular issue such as Living Wage, does not imply an endorsement of broader purpose and policies.
Purpose
At Citizens UK (CUK), our organisers and project staff work within communities to develop leaders, strengthen organisations, campaign for change and organise across difference. There are various project roles and operational, communication, finance and HR roles that support the organisation and project staff and organisers to deliver on this mission and work. This work is rewarding and can be challenging; it requires a personal commitment to inclusion, a willingness to listen and disagree respectfully, and an interest in working in an organisation where our staff, member institutions and leaders will come from a diversity of backgrounds and often hold views that may be very different from our own. More information about how we operate within this context and build trusted relationships across difference can be found on our website and is covered in induction. Onboarding and navigating this relational culture, and type of work, is supported by line managers and further training.

We aim for an equitable, user-friendly application process, and reasonable adjustments can be made if needed. As a Quaker organisation we expect all applicants and employees to uphold our values.

Stewardship helps Christians to be the best stewards of the resources God gives them.
Every year we support tens of thousands of people with everyday giving through to strategic philanthropy, and help thousands of churches, charities and Christian workers to strengthen their finance and governance.
We operate with the financial scope and technical complexity of a mid-sized financial services institution, but with a clear Christian mission at our heart. Amongst other things, we safely received and granted out over £134m from our Donor Advised Fund in 2025, deliver payroll services to over 900 clients each month, reach thousands with our products and campaigns, and still have ambitious plans to grow.
The Chief Digital Officer (CDO) will see digital and technology not simply as a function or infrastructure, but as a ministry enabler: creating the systems, platforms and experiences that enable increased generosity, strengthen churches and charities, and scale Kingdom impact. A key part of the role is enabling scalable growth across both Giving and Ministry Services, with a focus on platform development, product capability, data infrastructure, insight-led decision making and innovation.
This role is a new addition to a well-established Executive team, who work with high levels of trust, candour and care, and who value laughter, integrity and grace as much as strategic insight and financial acumen.
The CDO will need to work from our office near Barbican, London at least one day a week.
We help Christians be the best stewards of the resources God gives them

About Us
Uplift supports efforts to create a rapid and fair transition away from oil and gas production in the UK. We urgently need to phase out oil and gas drilling to stay within safe climate limits. Yet, despite having renewable resources in abundance, the UK remains Europe’s second largest oil and gas producer. We can and must be ambitious about moving past oil and gas production, while empowering and supporting workers and communities who rely on the industry for their livelihoods. Working with everyone from policy-makers and Parliamentarians, to academics and campaigners, Uplift undertakes research, analysis and campaigning to support a rapid and fair transition away from oil and gas production in the UK.
Role Summary
As Senior Press Officer, you will work with colleagues in the Communications team to help secure regular, high-profile and politically-attuned media coverage that communicates the urgent need for the UK to transition away from oil and gas extraction. The role involves drafting and distributing press releases, responding promptly to media inquiries, and preparing communications materials and key messages for other teams across the organisation. The Senior Press Officer will build and maintain relationships with key media contacts, monitor news coverage, and ensure accurate and timely information is provided to journalists. The role is suited to someone with experience working in a political context, who can help identify opportunities, write persuasively for different audiences, and respond in a timely way to risks to our work.

You will act as the go to contact for advice on the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) code, PECR, and HMRC Gift Aid compliance, while supporting the DPO to maintain alignment with the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025. Your day to day work will range from assisting with Subject Access Requests and data incident responses to reviewing targeted communications, ensuring valid permission statements are in place, and auditing third-party supplier standards.

Rather than simply highlighting obstacles, you enjoy working alongside different teams to find workable solutions that achieve their objectives while keeping the organisation fully compliant. You bring sound judgment, the confidence to escalate risks when necessary, and strong communication skills that allow you to build positive working relationships across all levels of the charity.
