Core Purpose:
The Senior Mass Participation Events Officer will play a pivotal role in the development and delivery of Make-A-Wish UK’s mass participation events portfolio, most notably the London Marathon, as well as other third-party and Make-A-Wish owned products (e.g. walks, runs, virtual events).

This position will lead on event delivery, support new product development, and coordinate marketing and supporter journey planning. You will work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure seamless delivery, exceptional supporter experiences, and continuous improvement across the programme. This role is key to driving income growth, supporter acquisition, and retention through strategic planning and operational excellence.

This role sits within the Public Fundraising team who are responsible for individual giving, legacies, community fundraising, third party Mass Participation events, and owned fundraising products and events. The Public Fundraising team plays a vital role in contributing to our organisational strategic goal of developing sustainable sources of income. 

Key Responsibilities:
Strategy & Planning 

• Support the development and implementation of multi-year plans for mass participation events across a broad range of markets, activities and products.
• Lead on the delivery of a range of third-party challenge events, owned products and virtual events, including recruitment and onboarding of new supporters, stewardship of supporters, budget management, event planning and logistics, volunteer management, and evaluation and reporting on events, taking learnings forward to improve future events. This role will primarily manage the London Marathon, which is our biggest third-party fundraising event, bringing in around 50% of all third-party events income.
• Contribute to the innovation pipeline by identifying opportunities for new products and enhancements and supporting the development of minimum viable products. 
• Evaluate performance and identify opportunities for growth.
• Ensure plans are data-driven and aligned with organisational strategy.
• Work proactively to identify a pipeline of future support and new fundraising opportunities, varying across corporate teams, groups and associations, individual supporters and third-party activities, converting prospects into confirmed supporters to maximise income growth.
• Work to an agreed income target with the aim of exceeding and growing income. You will have responsibility and accountability for hitting financial targets.

Acquisition and retention of supporters

• Coordinate marketing plans for acquisition, working with the creative team and digital freelancer.
• Brief and manage asset creation for campaigns across digital and print.
• Liaise with the email specialist to support campaign delivery via Campaign Monitor.
• Build and optimise registration flows to ensure a seamless user experience.
• Develop and deliver automated, multi-channel supporter journeys to retain donors, maximise fundraising, and promote further engagement. 
• Implement key milestones including welcome communications, fundraising support, and post-event stewardship.
• Align supporter journeys with the wish journey to deepen engagement.
• Implement key milestones of the supporter journey including welcome calls, race pack mailings, thank you mailings and fundraising chases. 
• Maintain effective relationships with Make-A-Wish UK colleagues and supporters, maximising retention and long-term value, and identify cross-departmental opportunities where appropriate by working collaboratively.
• Effectively steward small and medium corporate teams, ensuring corporate partners participating in third-party Mass Participation events have an exceptional experience.
• Coordinate cross-functional input from brand, digital, supporter care and wishgranting teams to ensure integrated delivery of mass participation events.

Event Management and Delivery 

• Lead planning and delivery of a portfolio of mass participation events, including logistics, budgeting, and on-the-day coordination.
• Act as operational lead for assigned events and products, making decisions on delivery approaches, resourcing, and supporter experience within agreed strategic parameters
• Provide informal mentoring and guidance to the Mass Participation Events Officer, supporting their development and ensuring consistency in delivery. Support the Officer with event logistics and delivery as needed.
• Maximise supporter engagement to meet income targets and KPIs at events. 
• Develop project plans, marketing plans and supporter journeys for a portfolio of mass participation events. 
• Attend Mass Participation events and represent Make-A-Wish in a professional manner. Be prepared to work some weekends and evenings where required. 
• Lead on event day logistics including the management of staff and volunteers. 

Monitoring and Evaluation 

• Monitor fundraising progress and approve partner invoices in alignment with the team’s budget and coding structure.
• Monitor event performance against agreed KPIs including recruitment targets, fundraising targets, and average fundraising per head. 
• Make data-informed decisions to optimise event delivery and supporter journeys, escalating strategic or high-risk issues to the Manager.
• Present results and learnings in monthly meetings with the wider Public Fundraising team and contribute to strategic reviews.

Community Engagement Officer

This role is a FT maternity cover contract over a 15 month period, 38.75 hours pw with some weekend and evening working included. Overseen by our Head of Fundraising, this role primarily covers running the Shelters events alongside supervising our  non animal related Volunteers overseeing the running of our two Charity shops , actively recruiting and managing new corporate sponsors and donors including our Helping Hands offering and attending general networking events.

A full description of the role is below. There is a six month probationary period and the rate of pay will be £13.25 ph plus other staff benefits including a work place pension and company sick pay.   

This role will suit an enthusiastic, hardworking, self-motivated individual who  likes a split of indoor and outdoor working. A practical individual the applicant must be confident and personable dealing with all types of people. A full driving licence is required and an immediate start would be preferred with a closing date of 30th November 2025.

JOB DESCRIPTION 

Title: Community Engagement Officer

Responsible to: Head of Fundraising

Post Objective: Working under the direction of the Head of Fundraising, to take responsibility for any community engagements. This being Corporate led commitments, events and management of Volunteers and the Charity Shops.

Responsibilities :-

• Work effectively as part of the Management team reporting directly to the Head of Fundraising to ensure that the Shelter is run in accordance with the instructions of the Board of Trustees.

• In conjunction with the Head of Fundraising and Fundraising team promote a range of fundraising events and functions on behalf of the shelter throughout the year including regular weekend activities, working closely with and involving other members of the management team, other staff and volunteers. Look after the entire life cycle of each event from initial enquiry/plan to completion.

· In conjunction with the Head of Fundraising and Fundraising team oversee regular Corporate groups attending the shelter, encouraging them to fundraise beforehand and afterwards. Support and lead their CSR day at the shelter.

· Responsible for the acquisition of new corporate partners and the effective stewardship and development of existing corporate relationships to maximise long-term support for the organisation.

 · Take the lead on any General Shelter talks within the local community.

· Collaborate with the Education team and support them with workshops where requested and relevant.

· Manage and oversee events on the day of happening, including problem solving, welcoming guests/supporters, directing event set-up, communicating with staff and organizing vendors. Ensure all event equipment such as gazebo’s, tables, chairs, information stand, marketing materials, etc are available and loaded onto vehicles the night before and then unloaded when returned.

• Communicate with other members of the Fundraising team to create effective advertisements for each event, creating paper based items such as posters and information or for the website/Facebook online advertisements for individual events., leaflets and online advertisement.

• Anticipate and plan for different scenarios and where necessary plan multiple events at once.

· Have overall responsibility for the promotion and performance of the onsite and offsite Charity Shops liaising regularly with and managing the Onsite Shop Supervisor and offsite Shop Manager. Ensure that the EPOS system incorporating the Retail Gift Aid process works correctly and captures GA where possible.

· Actively promote and coordinate the collection of items for fundraising recycling, via the individual Charity Shops.

· Coordinate the distribution, collection and careful recording of money spinners , individual money collection tins and food collection bins.

· Pro-actively seek out new collection sites and times, gaining local council licences where necessary and be involved and co-ordinate these. Includes street collections ( Christmas and Race week)  via Cheltenham Borough Council, Pets At Home store collections and regular supermarket collections.

· Ensure events are well manned by Volunteers and as much support is given as possible to all activities profiling the Shelter.

· Post and monitor adverts for and then recruit and induct new Volunteers for various non animal related roles as demand dictates within the Shelter.

· Monitor, encourage and support those volunteers in all aspects of daily life within both the Shelter and at all external events.

· Record regular hours of all Volunteers, hold thank you events and organise recognition certificates for long service Volunteers.

· Attend various Networking events to make new contacts and keep up to date with all local and national Volunteering groups and news.

· Promote the Animal Shelter in a positive and pro-active manner by improving systems and methods and provide an exemplary lead to staff.

· Provide excellent customer care when in contact with members of the public, supporters, sponsors ,and other’s presenting a professional image at all times.

· Carry out any other reasonable duties as required by the General Manager, Operations Manager or Head of Fundraising

2wish exists to provide support to anyone affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young person aged 25 and under.

Aims:

• Ensure every Emergency Department and Critical Care unit has a suitable bereavement suite
• Ensure that bereavement boxes are available at each of these hospitals
• Ensure that immediate bereavement support is available for all affected by the sudden death of a child or young person
• Provide a professional counselling service and other therapies for those affected by the sudden death of a child or young person
• Provide support to individuals who witness the sudden death of a child or young person
• Provide support and training to professionals from any sector who may be affected by the sudden death of a child or young person
• To advocate and campaign on behalf of suddenly bereaved families

2wish has been established since 2012 and has grown from strength to strength. During this time, we have worked tirelessly to embed our service and ensure that the offer of support is made at the point of death.

We offer an immediate, consistent, high-quality and compassionate service to all individuals affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young person aged 25 and under in Wales. We work in partnership with professionals who refer into the charity on behalf of the families, so they don't have to trawl through the internet for an organisation who may, or may not, be able to support. We provide immediate, and ongoing, support and are here for as long as our families need us.

Context of role:

2wish support anyone affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young person aged 25 and under. We are an All-Wales charity providing immediate casework support, as well as ongoing aftercare services including counselling, alternative therapies, play therapy, support groups, support events and a respite cottage.

Purpose of role:

This is exciting time to join the 2wish team as we continue to expand our services across England that will see us deepening our presence in England. We’re looking for someone who can seek out and build great partnerships, cultivate and manage large corporate donors whose values align with ours and help raise brand awareness. Someone who can proactively generate new and repeat business and enjoys networking and building relationships with both corporate sponsors and high net worth donors.

Main duties:

Team Leadership

• Line manage the Corporate Fundraiser and Events Coordinator, providing guidance, support, and performance oversight.

Partnership Development

• Identify and secure strategic partnerships to grow annual and long-term income.
• Develop and implement innovative and creative approaches to overcome challenges in generating funding and building partnerships.
• Lead stewardship and engagement of corporate supporters, including creating tailored plans and activities to maintain strong relationships and encourage long-term support.

Strategic Growth & Awareness

• Work with the Head of Fundraising to develop and implement strategies to increase funding, raise brand awareness, and expand 2wish’s reach across Wales and England.
• Conduct market research to identify new opportunities and target relevant leads.
• Plan and deliver tailored events and attend community and industry events to promote 2wish’s services, raise funds, and attract new audiences.
• Identify and recommend networking and speaking opportunities for the CEO and senior team to raise funds, increase awareness, and build strategic connections.
• Manage sponsorship opportunities to promote the charity’s mission and build new relationships.

Planning, Collaboration & Evaluation

• Work with the Head of Fundraising to set income targets, develop financial forecasts, and monitor progress.
• Manage budgets for partnerships activities, ensuring effective use of resources and achievement of fundraising goals.
• Analyse and report on the performance of business development initiatives, including partnerships and events, and adjust strategies accordingly.
• Collaborate with teams across 2wish, including fundraising and marketing teams, to align partnership goals with the wider organisational strategy.
• Support the development of targeted campaigns in collaboration with fundraising and marketing teams to secure new partnerships.

What we do for you:

Salary: Starting salary of £32,000 per annum.

Contract type: Permanent

Hours: Normal hours are 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday, although alternative hours may be worked with line manager agreement. Work outside office hours may sometimes be necessary and will be compensated for by time off in lieu.

Annual leave: 28 days plus bank holidays. Annual leave steadily increases after five years of service. Annual leave and statutory holidays are calculated on a pro rata basis where applicable.

Pension: 2wish operate a contributory pension scheme. 2wish will auto-enrol you into the scheme in accordance with it's auto-enrolment obligations. Full details of the scheme will be provided to you once you are enrolled, including the minimum level of contributions that you will be required to make during your membership (current contributions - employer 3% and employee 5%).

Mileage: A fixed rate allowance is payable for agreed mileage undertaken on 2wish business in a private vehicle, over and above your usual journey to your workplace/s.

Lead major donor relations, support staff in engaging trusts and individual donors, supervise key proposals, and network strategically to find new fundraising opportunities for PBI UK. • People and Culture: Supervise and oversee development of the PBI UK Office team, monitoring performance, training and wellbeing of staff and recruitment strategies.
• Financial Management, Risks and Controls: Jointly with the Finance Manager, monitor, supervise and analyse the financial situation of PBI UK in line with budgets and risks identified by the Board, escalate any relevant actions to the Board and undertake forecasting and pipelining to ensure appropriate and compliant financial controls and systems are in place.
• Policy and Advocacy: Jointly with the Advocacy Manager, supervise the development and implementation of PBI UK’s advocacy and policy strategy with strategic partners including human rights defenders, law firms, other NGOs, FCDO representatives and other civil society organisations/coalitions. Work with the PBI UK team to develop operational projects and opportunities. Give strategic direction and practical support to the implementation of advocacy on policy, countries and cases.
• Liaison with Broader PBI: Lead liaison with PBI’s International Office and other global bodies, ensuring that PBI UK evolves in a way which contributes to PBI’s global evolution, and maintaining good relationships with other PBI teams.
• Liaison with PBI’s Boards and Ambassadors: Work closely with the Finance Manager and PBI UK staff in the production of PBI UK’s annual budget and plan, using PBI UK’s resources effectively and efficiently. Ensure effective implementation of Board decisions, with receipt of clear delegation of authority. Develop relevant policies for Board approval and ensure compliance, and keep the Chair informed of all important matters. Make recommendations to the Board on the appointment of new trustees (including necessary skills).
• Business Strategy and People Management: Successfully implement the strategy and fulfil the objectives of PBI UK with the guidance of the Board and the support of PBI UK staff. Develop a strong working relationship with the IC and other PBI bodies.
