Membership Co-ordinator

Barnwood is an independent charitable Trust. We get millions of pounds of funding out into the county every year. But money is only part of the story.

We join with the people, communities and organisations in Gloucestershire’s disability and mental health movement – driving forward change so that disabled people and people with mental health conditions have choice of opportunities, access their rights, and are included where they live.

We are looking for a new Membership Co-ordinator to join the team to coordinate our engagement scheme ‘Barnwood Circle’.  Barnwood Circle is a network of disabled people, people with mental health conditions, and carers, who inform and shape our work by sharing experiences and expertise.

Our Membership Co-ordinator is a key contact for members. We are looking for someone who can provide excellent administration and coordination of Circle meetups and projects. The Membership Co-ordinator helps us make our communication accessible and relevant to members, and enables members to participate by ensuring access requirements are met.

Specialist experience relevant to disability and mental health challenges, including safeguarding, specialist communications or cultural awareness is welcomed for this role.

Contract Terms:

• This role is permanent, full-time hours (37.5hrs per week)
• Full Time (FTE Salary) £34,289
• We offer a flexible start between 8am and 9.30am Monday to Friday
• This position is based in our office in central Cheltenham with occasional opportunities for home working.

Summary of Key Duties:

Coordination of engagement scheme

1. Develop and maintain a project-based overview of Barnwood Circle activity.

2. Support participation from disabled people and people with mental health conditions with the widest possible range of lived experiences. 

3. Manage registration of new members and Barnwood’s database.

4. Provide administration of Barnwood Circle member agreements, payments and expenses claims for taking part in projects with the Barnwood team.

5. Collate feedback and support evaluation of Barnwood Circle activity.

Communications and Events

· Collaborate with marketing and communications colleagues to ensure that communications and channels used to engage disabled people and people with mental health conditions are effective, accessible, and relevant.

· Coordinate the creation of communications products which engage a wide range of disabled people and people with mental health conditions, commissioning specialist resources where necessary. 

· Support teams across the Trust to engage meaningfully with Barnwood Circle members and create communications to resource this.

Essential Knowledge and Experience:

· Demonstrable knowledge of project planning tools and techniques.

· Demonstrable knowledge of accessibility tools and techniques.

· Proven success in engaging those with complex needs and/or those who are routinely marginalised.

About the Investment team

The Investment team is responsible for selecting portfolio partners, managing our charity investments and supporting our portfolio partners to improve and scale their impact. 

The Investment team also leads the Impetus Leadership Academy, a leadership development programme to support talent from ethnic minority backgrounds in the UK youth sector to progress into senior leadership roles. 

The team is made up of 18 people, including former teachers, charity chief executives, charity impact leads, management consultants, social investment portfolio managers and impact consultants.   

The team is led by a Portfolio Director who sits on the Senior Management Team. The Portfolio Director has 5 direct reports: a Deputy Portfolio Director, three Sector Leads (who lead our work in school engagement, school attainment and employment sectors) and an Impact Lead. Sector Leads line manage 6 Investment Directors between them. Investment Directors line manage Investment Managers (currently 7). Investment Directors and Investment Managers tend to primarily focus on a sector but might have mixed portfolios, depending on need, experience and interest. 

The Investment team has a good track record of role progression. All four Leads and a number of our Investment Directors were promoted from within the team.

​Key responsibilities
Finding high potential charities and non-profit partners for our portfolio 

• Identifying potential charitable organisations for investment.
• Leading and delivering in-depth due diligence process within the scope of a grant round, to assess and build partnership foundations with potential partners – covering leadership and governance, and their impact, scale, and partnership potential.
• Modelling from first contact of origination, our approach to engaged and trust-based investment management support.
• Developing and presenting high quality investment propositions to our Investment Committee.

Managing partnerships with portfolio partners​

• ​Managing relationships with partner Chairs and CEOs. 
• Agreeing Service Funding Agreements, including appropriate annual investment milestones to allow for a clear assessment of re-investment potential at end of phase. 
• Regularly monitoring and assessing partner progress / risks against milestones and making evidence-based recommendations on progression or exit to Leads, Portfolio Director and the Investment Committee.
• Escalating key risks on performance, leadership and safeguarding.   
• Conducting annual partnership reviews with Sector Leads and partner CEOs.
• Working with Impetus finance colleagues to ensure timely distribution of grant payments, in line with Service Funding Agreements.  

Supporting portfolio partners  ​

Support to Impetus

• Developing expertise about “what works” in the sector through cultivation and use of expert input and engagement as well as investigation into key research and evaluative literature.
• Contributing insights and learning from portfolio work to inform Impetus’ strategy, model and delivery, providing evidence based recommendations to senior colleagues

The VCS Alliance is a charity dedicated to transforming health and social care across Bradford District and Craven. To do this, we act as a bridge between the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector and the Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership, channelling investment into the sector, to deliver transformational programmes. About Care4Calais

Care4Calais (C4C) is a volunteer-based charity providing essential aid and support for refugees in northern France and the UK. We support through on-the-ground assistance, and advocate for a fair asylum system - including safe routes to the UK with refugee rights on arrival.

We work alongside people seeking safety to ensure access to daily essentials, and fill gaps where state support is not provided. We are here for everyone attempting to navigate the complexities of claiming asylum in the UK - providing access to justice, and practical, welcoming support. We also communicate to the public the need for action in support of refugees. Our vision is an inclusive society where people seeking safety have a safe home and a bright future free from inequality.

In northern France we operate year round from Calais, providing warm clothing, shoes, shelter, services, and assistance to refugees living in appalling conditions.

Across the UK we collect and distribute clothes and other essential items, and provide social support and interaction including language lessons, sport and music workshops. We also help with vital access to legal, medical and educational services. We are a community with the shared goals of creating a just asylum system, and a fair and welcoming society for all refugees.

Our work involves organising successful campaigns against racist UK government policies, such as the Rwanda plan and the use of barracks as accommodation for people seeking sanctuary.

All of Care4Calais' operations are supported by a small, dedicated staff team, who supervise large volunteer teams to provide critical support to asylum seekers and people on the move in both the UK and France.

About the role

The UK Operations team provides essential psychosocial support to people seeking safety through practical services; such as running distributions, delivering English classes and drop ins, as well as activities to promote wellbeing such as trips and sports activities.

The UK Field Operations Manager will be responsible for managing our operations in London, working as part of the UK Field Operations Team to support large teams of grassroots volunteers to provide essential support to people seeking safety. 

You will need to onboard and motivate volunteers through continuous engagement and support to ensure that proper safety procedures for effective  distributions and activities are in place, well communicated, and consistently applied. The performance of each region and team needs to be regularly assessed and action taken to build capacity and skills where needed. Successful Field Operations Managers will build networks with local charities, community groups and Local Authorities to help grow and develop the operations of the local Care4Calais volunteer teams. As an operation, continuous improvement through research, learning and development of practices and policies will be critical.
