Breakthrough T1D is the UK’s leading type 1 diabetes charity, dedicated to funding research, advocating for change, and supporting the T1D community. JOB DESCRIPTION
Fundraising and supporter engagement

• Engage and support individuals, communities and local businesses to fundraise for Duchenne UK, providing outstanding stewardship and care throughout their journey.
• Recruit participants for both ‘run your own’ and third-party challenge events (runs, cycles, walks, skydives, etc.), developing long-term relationships with supporters – including families directly connected to the Duchenne community.
• Manage and grow Duchenne UK’s community fundraising programme, including in-memory giving, birthday fundraisers, and local community initiatives.
• Respond promptly to fundraising enquiries and proactively inspire new audiences to get involved.
• Project-manage a calendar of third-party challenge events, overseeing logistics, communications, and participant stewardship from sign-up through to completion.
• Identify and develop new community and virtual event opportunities to grow income and reach new audiences.
• Recruit, support, and motivate volunteers to assist with events and community fundraising activity.
• Work with the communications team to promote events and community fundraising across digital channels and social media.
• Identify and cultivate supporters with potential for deeper engagement or major giving.

Internal processes and support

• Track supporter activity and income, monitoring performance against agreed KPIs and reporting regularly to the Director of Income Generation

• Lead on CRM database management for community and events fundraising, maintaining accurate and up-to-date supporter records, ensuring GDPR compliance, and developing processes that improve data quality across the team.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential experience:

• At least 2 years’ experience in a fundraising, events, or community engagement role within the charity sector.
• A proven track record of meeting income targets and growing a supporter base.
• Experience engaging and supporting a diverse range of fundraisers including individuals, schools, community groups, and local businesses.
• Experience recruiting, supporting, and motivating volunteers.

Essential skills and attributes:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a wide range of supporters.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Established in 2021, Opportunity Green is a fast-growing not-for-profit organisation that helps to identify and unlock opportunities to tackle climate change. We build ambitious coalitions, support climate vulnerable countries in international negotiations and find innovative legal pathways to fight climate change.

What’s the role?

The Development Director will work closely with the CEO and the Chief Strategy and Impact Officer (CSIO) on all of Opportunity Green’s fundraising. We are looking for someone who truly gets what OG is trying to achieve, who can pull strands of our work together and turn it into cohesive cross-cutting proposals that funders want to be part of. You will draft and write compelling concept notes and proposals – not just edit them.

To date, the CEO and CSIO have overseen all of Opportunity Green’s fundraising, with the assistance of a Project Officer. We have been hugely successful in our fundraising to date; testament to the extraordinary talent of our staff and the impact they can make. However, as we continue to rapidly scale as an organisation, now is the right time for a Director to add capacity and further expertise to our fundraising.

This role is essential in Opportunity Green’s expanding team and organisation. You will work closely with OG colleagues across the organisation to understand their work, assist the CEO and wider team in managing our current donors and develop ambitious, strategic and innovative funding partnerships with trusts and foundations. You will have a specific focus on grants at the £1m+ level and increasing the number of unrestricted grants. It is important to note that we believe the following will not be a large part of the role in the short to medium term:

1. Searching new prospects – while in time this could become part of the role, we have multiple prospects that we are not currently pursuing due solely to capacity constraints.

2. Institutional or corporate fundraising – while this is a large source of potential funding, we are not currently pursuing it, or looking to secure any institutional or corporate funding from the UK / EU etc.

3. Individual giving – while there is an overlap between High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI) and philanthropic trusts & foundations, developing a HNWI giving programme is not, for now, a large part of our strategy.

You’ll be the kind of person who sees connections, chases opportunities, gets out from behind your desk to meet people, and influences internally and externally to achieve results. You will be driven, determined, tenacious and focused on solutions. You will not be someone who simply comments on proposals and ensures funder timelines are met, instead you will co-develop the strategies and projects that we will pitch to potential funders.

The Development Director will be our first fulltime fundraising hire, with continued support from the current Project Officer. There is huge potential for the right candidate to grow this role, working directly with the CEO, and a longer-term potential to expand into a fundraising team over time. As the organisation grows (we have grown to 35 people with a turnover of £5m in almost five years, with no sign of slowing down!) it is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in enabling Opportunity Green to achieve our ambitions and have an even greater impact. 

About the candidate

We are looking for a candidate with:

· A passion for using their fundraising skills to tackle climate change.

· Experience of philanthropic, not just institutional/corporate, fundraising in climate / environment / international development sector(s)

· Ability to, over time, understand Opportunity Green so well that they would be almost as comfortable in OG’s project teams as leading on OG’s fundraising.

· Developed and secured new sources of income from trusts and foundations, with a strong focus on funders with a potential to give £1m+ annually.

· Executed a fundraising strategy and develop a strong pipeline, managing a portfolio of current donors at the same time.

· Experience of managing the complexities of restricted income projects.

· Ability to understand diverse donor motivations and deliver a bespoke relationship to meet these. Demonstrable skill in adapting written and verbal communications for a philanthropy audience.

· Engaging presentation and writing skills for tailored presentations, proposals and grant reports for donors.

· Confidence in working with senior stakeholders internally and externally, using tact and diplomacy.

· Organised and methodical approach to plan and deliver against a varied workload, managing competing priorities under your own initiative and to strict deadlines.

· Be financially savvy and able to work with the finance team to ensure new proposals support a full-cost recovery approach.

As the Trusts and Foundations Manager, you will have the opportunity to work with colleagues from across the organisation, from Progression Coaches who work directly in and with our school partners to members of the Senior Leadership Team and Trustees. Key responsibilities

• Prepare and write compelling applications to charitable trusts and foundations who have the capacity to make five and six figure gifts towards the charity’s work.
• Prepare and submit scheduled applications and reports to current funders, ensuring that we hit deadlines and develop relationships with the trusts and foundations currently supporting Villiers Park.
• In collaboration with the Senior Leadership team, and colleagues in Fundraising and Communications, create engaging and accurate reports to current funders that share the impact of their support, including trusts, major donors and university partners.
• Work with colleagues in the Fundraising team to develop and implement targeted stewardship strategies that bring current donors closer to our work.
• Identify new prospects and propose engagement and cultivation strategies.
• With the Head of Fundraising and Chief Executive, develop the trusts and philanthropic strategy to support the organisation’s 'Beyond Barriers’ strategic growth plan.
• Work closely with the Fundraising Operations and Data Manager to prepare pipeline reports to inform budgeting and forecasting.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a highly organised and proactive Senior Fundraising Officer to join our team on a fixed-term contract.

Working closely with the Director of Fundraising and the Senior Fundraising Lead, you will ensure our high-value corporate partnerships run smoothly, our high-net-worth events are a success and our external pitches are sharp and well-researched.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Research and opportunity generation

• Support the team by researching and keeping abreast of new funding opportunities across trusts, foundations, and corporate prospects.
• Compile background research to help the team evaluate and pursue new business leads.

Funding applications and pitch support

• Assist the Senior Fundraising Lead and Director of Fundraising with writing funding applications.
• Help structure and draft compelling pitch documents to support the team’s new business goals.

Partnership coordination

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented Digital Product Insights Analyst to join our Digital Product Team. You will play a key role in strengthening how we use data, insight and experimentation to improve user experience, grow fundraising performance and support people affected by lung conditions.

Asthma + Lung UK is the only charity in the UK fighting for everyone with a lung condition, aiming for a world where everyone can breathe with healthy lungs. We fund cutting-edge research, provide advice and support for the 12 million people who will get a lung condition during their lifetime. We also campaign for clean air and for better NHS diagnosis and treatment.

In this role, you will lead on web analytics and insight across our digital journeys, ensuring accurate tracking, high-quality data and clear performance reporting. You will work closely with colleagues across Fundraising + Engagement, Data + Insight and Health Advice to ensure consistent, high-quality reporting and insight across digital platforms. You will identify optimisation opportunities, shape experimentation roadmaps and support the design and evaluation of A/B testing activity. You will also contribute to strengthening our in-house SEO capability and embedding best practice in digital measurement.

You will have strong technical expertise in tools such as Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager, alongside experience in testing and optimisation. You will be highly organised, confident presenting data stories to stakeholders and comfortable collaborating across teams and with external partners. A proactive, data-driven mindset and the ability to translate complex information into practical recommendations are essential.
