Purpose of the Role
Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SABP) have contracted Surrey Coalition of Disabled People and LF Solutions to provide independent administration and support to FoCUS, their Forum of Carers and people who Use Services.
FoCUS enables people to have their say and influence the mental health services they receive within Surrey and Northeast Hampshire.
FoCUS was set up by SABP to:
· Place people at the heart of the delivery and design of mental health services
· Set standards for how they involve people
· Measure how well they involve people
· Measure how well they deliver services
This role is intended to facilitate and coordinate involvement in FoCUS by promoting the network and encouraging people who use the Trust’s services and carers to join and participate in user involvement activities, and raise themes heard from member experiences to the Trust for discussion.
Main Responsibilities
Promotion of FoCUS
· Encourage and enable people with experience of mental health services and carers to join FoCUS and to influence SABP’s services.
· Increase awareness of the benefits of user involvement and representation in building people’s confidence, sense of worth and self-esteem and in helping people to achieve greater social inclusion.
· Promote FoCUS to people who use SABP’s services and carers, across Surrey and Northeast Hampshire. Using a variety of communication and engagement methods including attending relevant outreach and community events with an exhibition stand or promotional materials.
· Increase the number of service users and carers joining as FoCUS members.
· Develop and maintain personal contacts within SABP’s services in Surrey and Northeast Hampshire to promote FoCUS to their clients, and encourage key staff to attend Community Group meetings.
· Liaise with other services including Community Mental Health Recovery Services, Integrated Neighbourhood Teams and other public services and voluntary sector providers to promote FoCUS and encourage them to promote FoCUS membership to their clients.
Management of the Network
· Contact new FoCUS members to ensure their support and access needs are met and to encourage them to attend their local Community Group meetings.
· Work with LF Solutions to maintain and manage network enquiries, new members, meeting planning and delivery of the activities of the forum.
· Act as main contact for service users, carers and professionals for the FoCUS network. Manage inbox and all enquiries.
· Chair the meetings of the forum to ensure the smooth running of meetings and enable everyone to contribute in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.
· Encourage members to attend FoCUS meetings and drop in’s to share recent service experiences.
· Produce a quarterly mental health Newsletter to promote outcomes achieved, manage the social media accounts for FoCUS.
Reporting
· Maintain accurate records. Keeping confidential member information up to date, undertaking data cleanses, recording meeting attendance and topics of discussion. Track activity and outcomes data for reporting purposes.
· Provide a quarterly report on activities and membership to SABP.
Development of volunteer FoCUS Representatives
· Encourage FoCUS members to put themselves forward to become a volunteer FoCUS Representative, explaining the nature and commitment of the role.
· Work with FoCUS Representatives on plans for engagement in their Areas and to agree their individual level of involvement in promoting FoCUS. Help them prepare their respective contributions to their Community Group meetings.
· Organise and attend a quarterly meeting of the FoCUS Representatives to prepare contributions to FoCUS Committee meetings, and provide support as required.
· Identify any training needs of FoCUS members and Representatives, to empower them to fulfil their potential and build personal skills and confidence to have their say.
General Duties
· Encourage existing and new FoCUS members to also join Surrey Coalition of Disabled People and the Independent Mental Health Network, offering opportunities for involvement in other issues affecting their lives.
· At all times, to work within Surrey Coalition’s policies. Including equal opportunities and health and safety, safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection.
· To work as a member of the team promoting FoCUS, including FoCUS Representatives and staff of Surrey Coalition and LF Solutions.
· Work flexibly to meet the responsibilities of the role and be responsive to any feedback.
· Carry out any other tasks within the scope of the role, as required by the Chief Executive and Mental Health Lead.

About the role
The Head of Policy and Humanitarian Affairs manages a small dynamic team based in London, who take the lead, as requested, on the delivery of relevant strategies in the UK and Ireland, the main objectives of which are twofold: (i) to contribute towards enabling ICRC action to protect and assist people affected by armed conflict (AC) and other situations of violence; (ii) to influence the debate and secure improved decision-making on issues relevant to conflict, humanitarian action and international humanitarian law.
Reporting to and working as adviser to the ICRC Head of Delegation (advising as well his deputy), the Head of Policy and Humanitarian Affairs develops and oversees the implementation of the delegation’s policy and humanitarian affairs strategy in the UK and Ireland, ensuring it is in line with the ICRC’s overall strategy. He/she is a member of ICRC’s global network of policy and humanitarian advisors, interacting regularly with the Policy and Humanitarian Diplomacy Divisions/Units at headquarters as well as with delegations around the world, thus contributing to policy formulation and ICRC’s humanitarian diplomacy.

Some of the duties and responsibilities of the role are:

What we’re looking for

Our specialist children's practitioners provide child-led play therapy sessions on a weekly basis, usually for 6-16 weeks. Sessions give children the opportunity to process what has happened to them and make sense of the complicated and confusing emotions they may be experiencing. Our practitioners work from our purpose-designed therapeutic playroom in Colchester or from some of our outreach premises in other areas, using a range of techniques including sand tray, art and imaginative play.
What we expect from our Sessional Counsellors/Play Therapists:
· Support up to eight CARA clients each week
· Maintain and update accurate database records of clients
· Diploma in Counselling or equivalent, with a minimum of 400 counselling hours.
· Certificate in Counselling Children, Play Therapy qualification or equivalent
· Experience of working therapeutically with children with psychological and behavioural problems.
· An understanding of how trauma affects children both physically and emotionally.
· An ability to work creatively to enable children to process their conscious and unconscious emotions.
· An ability to work collaboratively with parents, while protecting children’s confidentiality.
· To liaise with other agencies including social care, Children and Adolescent Mental Health service (CAMHS) and schools, and attend meetings and provide reports, where required.
· Attendance of one CARA Meeting per month and attendance of monthly point of contact meetings.
· Attendance of clinical supervision, provided by a CARA-approved supervisor.
· Attend annual safeguarding training and other relevant training
· An open and non-judgemental attitude.
· Demonstrable understanding of safeguarding, both in relation to children and to vulnerable adults;
· Sessional Counsellors/Play Therapists will be working with clients on behalf of CARA and not on a private basis. As such, they will be bound by CARA’s processes, policies and procedures.
· Commitment to the feminist ethos of CARA
· Willingness to commit the necessary time to supporting vulnerable clients
· Membership of BACP, UKCP or equivalent professional body
· Abide by BACP’s Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy
· Owing to the nature of the role, we are only able to take on female candidates

Community Officer
Shrewsbury, Shropshire
£9,329 per annum (FTE £31,098 per annum) + 7% pension contribution
6 Months Fixed-term contract from September 2026
21 hours a week (0.6 FTE) worked flexibly, with Mondays based in our Shrewsbury office. Some evening and weekend work is likely - paid overtime is not available, but time off in lieu of hours worked will be given.

What you will be doing:
We’re looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Community Officer to help diverse communities across Telford & Wrekin access natural spaces, connect with nature, and take action for nature, wildlife and the climate. You’ll build relationships with community groups, leaders and champions, support community projects and events that enable more people to engage with nature in ways that are meaningful to them.
You’ll develop and deliver an outreach and engagement plan focused on under-represented communities, carrying out listening exercises to understand people's experiences of nature, wildlife, and green spaces. This will include identifying barriers and how these can be reduced. You will also gather and share insights, observations and lived experiences with the wider SWT team to help shape and inform our work.
You’ll be passionate about our mission, with a personal connection to nature and a belief that helping people connect with the natural world is vital to addressing the climate and ecological crises. You’re committed to diversity, equality and inclusion, and have a proven ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and communities. You are comfortable using IT systems, particularly Microsoft Office applications, and hold a full UK driving licence.
