To enable Operation Smile’s global surgical activities, OSUK’s Partnerships Team works to maximise high-potential income channels such as corporate partnerships, major donors, community fundraisers and trusts and foundations.
We have created an exciting new position in our team for an ambitious and confident relationship fundraiser. Working as part of the Partnership Team, the Philanthropy Manager position will secure critical income from new and existing major donors through compelling, donor-centred approaches and excellent stewardship.
The position will build on existing relationships with individuals who make significant personal donations, aiming to grow their contributions, as well as making approaches to new prospects, working closely with the Director of Partnerships.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Philanthropy Development
- Ensure achievement of annual income target for philanthropy
- Develop and implement plans for a structured philanthropy programme, for both new and existing donors, aligning their giving with our strategic priorities
- Take primary responsibility for managing the current small pool of major donors, to grow and sustain their giving – strategic development of each relationship will be essential
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of new major donor prospects, creating propositions/proposals and making approaches, working with the Director of Partnerships
- Seek peer-to-peer introductions to new prospects, from existing donors, board members and other contacts
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting to donors and internal stakeholders
- Work with the Communications team to generate media presence and content to attract philanthropic interest from new prospects
- Represent Operation Smile UK in global philanthropy discussions, applying any global strategies to develop successful fundraising plans for the UK
- Lead on development and management of any philanthropy cultivation events
Additional Responsibilities
- Create and maintain annual philanthropy budget and business plan, including activities from current supporters and forecasting new business income

- 2 years’ experience in a philanthropy or business development role
- We promote flexible and hybrid working, with 2 days per week in our London office in Battersea (nearest stations Clapham Junction and Wandsworth Town). There will also be some UK travel for meetings, conferences and events.

Core Purpose
As a member of the Community Fundraising Team you will provide excellent supporter stewardship to our fundraisers, whilst proactively securing new support for Make-A-Wish UK. Working with the Community Fundraising Manager you will deliver the Community Fundraising Strategy, maximising and growing income from our Community Fundraising supporters within your geographical area.
This role sits within the Public Fundraising team who are responsible for individual giving, legacies, community fundraising, third party challenge events, and owned fundraising products and events. The Public Fundraising team plays a vital role in contributing to our organisational strategic goal of developing sustainable sources of income.
To be successful in this role you will need:
Essential Criteria
- Minimum 1 years experience in a fundraising role or able to demonstrate transferrable skills from a role in a sales or customer service setting
- Experience working towards financial and non-financial targets
- Experience of account managing a wide variety of clients/supporters/customers

Strategy & Planning
- With the support of the Community Fundraising Manager, develop and deliver plans for local fundraising across a broad range of markets, activities and products.
- Take ownership of your geographical area, tailoring asks and fundraising products where appropriate
- Work proactively to identify a pipeline of future support and new fundraising opportunities, varying across Small & Medium Corporates, Groups and Associations, Individual support and Third-party activities, converting prospects into confirmed supporters to maximise income growth.
- Contribute to the creation of plans for the growth and delivery of Community Fundraising, working with the Community Fundraising Manager to develop and promote Make-A-Wish fundraising products and ideas.
- Work to an agreed income target with the aim of exceeding and growing income.
Stewardship, retention and supporter journeys
- Be a key contact to deal with community fundraising supporter queries above £1,000 value, responding promptly and efficiently. This includes both supporters and volunteers taking part in fundraising activity.
- Plan and deliver excellent supporter journeys for community fundraisers to retain donors, maximise fundraising, and promote further engagement.
- Provide effective supporter-focused stewardship to retain donors, maximise fundraising, and promote further engagement through cross selling different fundraising products such as Lottery and Gift in wills.
- Maintain effective relationships with Make-A-Wish UK colleagues and all supporters, maximising retention and long-term value, and identify cross-departmental opportunities where appropriate by working collaboratively
- Manage a range of different supporter groups and small businesses up to the value of £30k, using excellent stewardship to go above and beyond, increasing income raised and retention rates to Make-A-Wish, working with other teams to develop successful volunteering opportunities to support this.
- Actively use Salesforce to keep supporter records up to date, logging all communications and ensuring accuracy and attention to detail
- Working with the Community Development Manager, develop relationships with Wish Families with a view to building sustainable family fundraising groups. Identify and implement new opportunities to align the supporter journey with the wish journey.
Operational delivery of the community fundraising plan
- Work with the Community Fundraising Manager to deliver the annual community fundraising plan within your area.
- Manage own workload in a cost effective and proactive way, whilst delivering against the plan.
- Work under own initiative to respond to local fundraising opportunities, referring to line manager as appropriate.
- Give regular talks and presentations both in person and virtually to a wide range of different audiences, inspiring people to support Make-A-Wish UK
- Contribute and create resources to support volunteer-led fundraising across the organisation.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Monitor community fundraising performance against agreed targets and KPI’s
- Present results and learnings in monthly meetings with the wider Public Fundraising team.
- Use learnings to feed into the ongoing development of the overall community fundraising strategy.
- Be accountable for set income and acquisition targets, continually monitoring performance against targets, using initiative to spot opportunities for improvement and areas of growth and acting on these opportunities.

About Us:
The Cowrie Scholarship Foundation, established in June 2020 (Charity Number 1191471), was set up to enable talented economically disadvantaged Black British students to attend UK universities by providing full scholarships. Black British students are found to be under-represented at many of our universities, and individuals from affluent areas are five times more likely than those from deprived areas to attend a high-tariff university. The Cowrie Scholarship Foundation aims to remove one fundamental obstacle – the financial cost of university education.
The Foundation has already allocated 70 scholarships and maintains a busy annual schedule of activity across partner and scholarship management; fundraising, communications and governance. The charity is led by the founder, Professor Richard Oreffo, and the Trustees, with the support of a freelance Project Manager.
Job Description
An experienced Project Assistant role is offered on a consultancy (freelance contract, applicants must be self-employed) basis, initially on a 6 month contract with opportunity to extend a further 6 months; possible renewal to follow. This represents an incredible opportunity for a hands on delivery role to be involved in a very active, transformational education charity.
Key targets for the role are:
- Undertake day-to-day administration of the charity using Gmail, Google Drive and (Beacon) CRM database;
- Support the Project Manager in the operations of the charity, including in fundraising, events, and Scholar and partner collaboration, compliance and working.
- Support the founder, trustee board and Project Manager to develop strong relationship with core university and business partners, ambassadors, supporters, Scholars, alumni, and Friends of Cowrie;
- Undertake social media planning and scheduling;
- Support the running of the mentoring programme for Cowrie Scholars;
- Liaising with universities and corporate partners to share opportunities and information.
About You
You will be looking for a challenging and demanding role as a project officer and administrator in a
fast-paced charity.
- You must have at least 3+ years’ demonstrable experience in a comparable role in the charitable or corporate sector, and you will be motivated and passionate to achieve our aims as we are.
- Demonstrable familiarity with Gmail and Google Drive, CRM databases is essential (Beacon experience desirable), and social media scheduling would be an advantage.
- The ability to be proactive, a motivated self-starter, have discretion and be organised is essential. The role is not suited to entry-level applicants or applicants needing supervision or extensive training.
- Experience in Higher Education sector is desirable but not essential.
About the role:
The role is offered on an initial basis of 6 months’ probation to be upgraded to a year, with the opportunity to renew.
A weekly commitment of 10 hours per week will be paid at £25/hour. Times worked will be negotiable, but some key hours to be worked on a Thursday to support the founder. The role is predominantly virtual and the successful candidate will provide all their own working equipment, including a computer and office space. Annual opportunities to meet up with the board in person and scholars at a fundraiser annually will be available, but attendance for the Project Officer is not mandatory.
Duties to include:
Administration / Governance
i) Day to day running of the charity’s ‘virtual’ office (email / Microsoft Office / use of Beacon CRM database / Google Drive).
ii) Managing correspondence and email flagging, filing, online storage / filing and retrieval of documents.
iii) Setting dates for trustee meetings and updating board papers.
iv) Prepare board notes for regular board meetings.
v) Support the Project Manager and founder with any other project tasks.
Partner Management
i) Ensure regular communications are sent to Scholars and universities as required.
ii) Ensure Cowrie donors (businesses and individuals) are kept up-to-date with progress.
iii) Manage administration with regards to university partnerships and annual student intake.
Communications and Events
Support the marketing communication sub-group of the Board; elements will include:
i) Assist with coordinating a range of events each year including annual summer events and the annual student festival.
ii) Handling and supporting with press / external enquiries for Professor Richard Oreffo.
iii) Assist with implementing planned content through social media to engage fundraising activities, potential donors, universities and students.
Consultancy Terms
i) The role will be paid hourly - initially typically around 10 hours a week as required (will require typically hours on a Thursday) (timings and induction to be agreed) at a rate of £25 an hour on an initial six month consultancy contract with the opportunity, on joint agreement between the Charity and consultant, to extend to a further 6 months and by negotiation thereafter.
ii) Hours – Flexible working hours across the week – with ~3 core hours on a Thursday. Occasional early evening board meetings (~2 hours, 3 times per year).
iii) Location – work from home with regular meet ups with members of the board by MS Teams/Zoom and occasional UK meet up F2F as events allow/required (travel expenses will be covered on top of hours worked).
iv) Must have access to own computer, appropriate software (MS Office etc.) and phone.
v) Please note this is a freelance opportunity and as such, will require the successful individual to manage their own tax, national insurance, invoicing and associated activity upon entering a contract for services with the Charity.

About the opportunity
As Treasury Manager within our Finance & Assurance directorate, you'll own our Treasury and Accounts Receivable functions, playing a vital role in our financial sustainability. You'll monitor our cash position, forecast cash flow across diverse income streams from online fundraising platforms to direct donations and community collections, and manage banking relationships to ensure we optimise our working capital and invest our reserves wisely.
This isn't a back-office role. You'll be a highly visible partner to budget holders and business partners across the organisation, providing the treasury insights that enable confident financial planning and investment. You'll have:
- Proven treasury or cash management experience in a medium to large organisation, including cash flow forecasting, cash positioning, and banking relationship management.
- Effective forecasting and analytical skills with the ability to model scenarios and provide strategic cash insights to support decision-making.
- Experience managing banking relationships, optimising cash deployment, and working with multiple bank accounts and treasury systems.
- Track record in managing end-to-end accounts receivable processes, including invoice generation, reconciliation, and collections.

The Philanthropy team is key to securing unrestricted income and supporting the organisation to achieve financial resilience. You will represent the Philanthropy team internally and externally and provide key support across the philanthropy portfolio as well as manage their own portfolio of supporters and multi-year donors. This role will help lead on our prospecting plan and work across teams to implement fundraising initiatives.
Meet your Manager
In this role you will be managed by Clea Fergusson. Clea joined ClientEarth in March 2023 and is based in Berlin. Prior to joining ClientEarth, Clea worked as a fundraiser and marketing specialist for a number of humanitarian and development non-governmental organisations (NGOs), both nationally and internationally. She has led fundraising teams and strategies in countries such as the UK, France and Germany. Through her humanitarian and development work, she has had the opportunity to hear first-hand from many communities directly affected by the climate crisis around the world. Clea graduated with honours in French and Italian from the University of Manchester and obtained her Masters in Marketing from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland. She holds a Certificate in Fundraising Management from the British Institute of Fundraising and speaks English, French, German and Italian.
Main Duties
- Actively solicit and manage donor relationships across assigned portfolio to contribute to the global philanthropy income target with a focus on building new income and unrestricted income
- Build a resilient donor pipeline and manage prospects and donors through each stage of the pipeline, ensure annual renewals, uplifts and secure new income
- Develop compelling proposals and reports that engage prospect and meet donor priorities and requirements

Context and Background
The NSPCC's mission is to end cruelty to children. In order to carry out its charitable work, we rely on the fundraising support of people across the UK for 90% of its annual income. Within Fundraising, our aim is to provide maximum resources for the NSPCC and children by working together to create the best possible supporter experience by building long-term relationships to create a supporter experience which is different, better and more rewarding than that of supporting any other charity.
The Mass Participation Team (MPT) is an important part of the Philanthropy and Partnerships department within the Engagement and Fundraising directorate. MPT is responsible for attracting new supporters through our mass participation events to maximise fundraised income, and to optimise onward journeys to retain supporters within the NSPCC family.
The Mass Participation Team focuses on three areas of fundraising;
- Third party events – sporting events organised by third party suppliers, where we recruit participants and support them in raising money in aid of the NSPCC. For example, the London Marathon, Cardiff Half Marathon, Ultra Challenge series, skydives, bespoke treks.
- Schools Fundraising – a suite of fundraising products tailored to schools across all educational settings, including Number Day, the Kindness Challenge and Classmaster.
- DIY fundraising – supporters who choose to organise their own fundraising event or activity. Whether they take part with family or friends, at work or at school, we support them through stewardship and fundraising materials to help them reach their fundraising goals.
Job purpose
The role of the Senior Fundraiser is to project manage a number of fundraising activities within DIY fundraising and Schools Fundraising areas. The role will be responsible for managing DIY fundraising activity – managing acquisition and stewardship for DIY fundraisers, and playing a leading role in reviewing and streamlining user experience across mass, workplace and school audiences. The role will also take on project management of a Schools Fundraising product, managing all aspects of the product throughout its lifecycle. The Senior Fundraiser will be responsible for working as a proactive team member to ensure that the participation levels and net income from activities are maximised.

- To play a key role in maximising income for the NSPCC from new and existing supporters through DIY/Schools fundraising activity.

The Challenge Events Manager role is a varied position which would be perfect for somebody who has event management experience. You will be somebody who can spot opportunities, take on a project and run with it. You’ll be an excellent communicator, happy to pick up the phone to chat to event participants, deliver pre-event webinars or create engaging participant emails. You'll also line-manage our Events Fundraising Officer who plays a key support role on the events. Within Income Generation, our aim is to provide maximum resources for the NSPCC and children by working together to create the best possible donor experience by building long -term relationships to create a supporter experience which is different, better and more rewarding than that of supporting any other charity.
The Mass Participation Team (MPT) is an important part of the Philanthropy and Partnerships department within the Engagement and Fundraising directorate. MPT is responsible for attracting new supporters through our mass participation events and products to maximise fundraised income, and to optimise onward journeys to retain supporters within the NSPCC family.
The Mass Participation Team focuses on three areas of fundraising;
- Third party events – sporting and challenge events organised by third party suppliers, where we market spaces, recruit participants and support them in raising money in aid of the NSPCC. For example, the TCS London Marathon, Cardiff Half Marathon, Ultra Challenge series, skydives, bespoke treks.
- Schools Fundraising – a suite of fundraising products tailored to schools across all educational settings, including Number Day, the Kindness Challenge and Classmaster.
- DIY fundraising – supporters who choose to organise their own fundraising event or activity. Whether they take part with family or friends, at work or at school, we support them through stewardship and fundraising materials to help them reach their fundraising goals.
Job purpose
The role of the Fundraiser is to manage a number of events in the third party events portfolio. The Fundraiser will be responsible for working as a proactive member of the team to ensure that the participation levels and net income from each event/activity are maximised. The key aspects of the role are:
- To project manage specific event activities, co -ordinate cross fundraising activity, develop materials, keep track of budgets and evaluate as appropriate
- To develop specific activities and build existing activities to increase participation and income.
- Work closely with the team manager to identify and implement new opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness.
- Work as part of the Mass Participation Team to deliver the overall department objectives.
- Evaluate the performance of specific activities and to provide financial information as required.
- To work to deliver the agreed departmental strategy, goals and standards in line with business requirements.
- To work effectively with other departments in Fundraising and other functions within the NSPCC to maximise income.

Main duties and responsibilities
- To maximise income by engaging, managing and inspiring NSPCC event participants and event enquirers.
- To use creative and engaging methods of communication including written and verbal communications in pre-event, event and post event activities, that fit with wider audience journeys and experiences.
- To be responsible for delivering a supporter event experience that surpasses supporters’ expectations in order to maximise opportunities.
- To ensure maximised effectiveness and efficiency of sporting events by planning and best practice
- To proactively improve and capture knowledge and understanding of event participants through developing the NSPCC relationship with them, delivering greater insight that can be used to further develop supporter relationships to deliver increased lifetime value across all forms of support.
- To research and develop fundraising opportunities in sporting events both by reviewing NSPCC activities and the activities of other charities.
- To carry out research through a range of sources, to obtain relevant information that can contribute to improving event promotion effectiveness, the event participant experience, maximising participant sponsorship income and repeat participation levels.
- Work with their manager, to devise, agree and deliver particular aspects of the Mass Participation Team’s annual business plan and budget to enable the NSPCC to plan its activity and services.

- To be responsible for updating databases and supporter information systems on a regular basis in line with Data Protection legislation and NSPCC policy and procedures to ensure all records are up -to-date and accurate.
- To lead regular team meetings and actively participate in department meetings, contributing to strategy, discussions and decisions which will be beneficial to the NSPCC’s development of fundraising activities.
- To maintain an awareness of own and others’ Health and Safety and comply with the NSPCC’s Health and Safety policy and procedures.
- To take personal responsibility for keeping up to date with NSPCC work to end cruelty to children, including securing updates on project and service developments and general NSPCC news and also ensuring that the fundraising team does likewise
