Executive Officer to the Secretary of the Conference

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, highly organised and proactive Executive Officer to support the Secretary of the Conference.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the heart of the Methodist Church's governance, leadership and decision-making structures.

Working closely with the Secretary of the Conference and colleagues across the Conference Office, you will provide executive, governance and project support, helping to ensure the effective delivery of key priorities and the smooth operation of major governance processes.

The role combines executive support, committee and governance administration, research and briefing, stakeholder engagement and project coordination. It offers the opportunity to work with senior leaders, office holders and colleagues from around the Methodist Connexion and beyond.

The post holder will provide advice and support to the Secretary of the Conference across the entire range of their responsibilities. They will prepare briefing papers, reports, presentations, worship material and other documentation supporting the Secretary.

In this crucial role, the Executive Officer will read committee and meeting papers and flag items requiring the Secretary's attention/awareness, ensuring appropriate briefings are received and that the Secretary is alerted to key issues. 

The post holder will also lead on the preparation for regular meetings on behalf of the Secretary of the Conference including the Connexional Leaders’ Forum and the Nominations Committee.  The successful applicant will also liaise with the wider Methodist family of charities and organisations to enable regular engagement and updates for the Secretary. 

The successful applicant will also undertake and develop special projects, or plan or commission research on behalf of the Secretary of the Conference.

About You

We are seeing an individual committed to making a positive contribution to the work of the Conference Office by providing executive support to the Secretary.

To be successful in this role you will be confident navigating complex organisations, managing competing priorities and exercising sound judgement when handling sensitive matters.

You will bring strong executive support, governance or project coordination experience, alongside excellent communication skills and a proactive, collaborative approach. You will be equally comfortable preparing high-quality briefings and reports, coordinating key meetings and governance processes, and building effective working relationships with colleagues, volunteers and partners.

The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability effectively to support a senior manager or senior office holder and be experienced in researching information and producing briefings and reports.

You can prioritise, work unsupervised and demonstrate imitative.  You can assimilate new information quickly and keep abreast of rapidly changing situations and work themes. 

You will have outstanding organisational and communication skills, with a meticulous eye for detail, and strong proficiency in written and spoken English.

You have strong interpersonal skills and can work with colleagues as an effective member of a team and work alongside and guide volunteers. 

Ability and willingness to travel for work purposes including some evening, weekends and overnight stays is essential for this role.

We have a vacancy for a Bounce Back Worker to join our team.

The Bounce Back service forms an integral part of Hertfordshire Mind Network’s Complex Needs Community Services. The service provides one-to-one outreach support to facilitate a smooth, timely and supportive discharge from hospital back in to the community.

About the Project

Herts Mind Network (HMN) has a partnership with Hertfordshire Partnership Foundation Trust (HPFT) to deliver a one-to-one outreach service for people who are in hospitals across Hertfordshire.

There is an emergency department arm of the project and will be based at Watford General Hospital working in A&E departments, with the Mental Health Liaison Team, and hospital wards facilitating hospital discharge for people with mental health need.

About the Role:

The Bounce Back Worker will be based at Watford General Hospital and HMN Centres, promoting joint working between Watford A&E, creating a seamless pathway into community support for clients recovering from mental ill health.

The aims of the Bounce Back service are to provide up to 16 sessions of emotional and practical support and advice & information to patients. We will visit patients on the ward and continue the sessions in the local community and in patient’s homes once discharged. We will facilitate a smooth and timely hospital discharge.

Key Responsibilities

The Bounce Back worker will use a recovery orientated approach working with patients on the ward, and in the local community, including in people’s homes.  The recovery approach includes empathy, warmth, acceptance, authenticity, compassion and humanity. To work with hospital staff to ensure patients are offered advice, information, and holistic support.

The post holder will need to:

• Provide practical and emotional support to encourage patients to develop their independence within their local community.
• Facilitate a smooth discharge from hospital back to the community.
• Have a solid understanding on the dual effect of mental health and drugs and alcohol.
• Monitor outcomes and evaluate the service.
• Ensure that the safety and wellbeing of patients using the service is monitored and reviewed regularly.
• Embed a person centred and recovery orientated approach in all aspects of the roles and responsibilities.

Role purpose statement:  The Programme Assistant, Enquiries, plays a vital administrative role in the Fellowship Programme working directly with academics facing immediate risk in their home countries. The role exists to provide effective and efficient administration, completing due diligence tasks and onward signposting to prospective applicants. Duties include managing an individual caseload of applicants, assisting prospective applicants and administrative support for general enquiries, the Enquiries team as well as support across the Fellowship Programme when needed. 

Organisational Background 

The Council for At-Risk Academics is a UK-registered charity founded in 1933 under the leadership of William Beveridge, to assist academics suffering persecution under the rise of Nazism and facilitate their continued work in safety. Sixteen Cara Fellows from the 1930s and 1940s became Nobel Laureates, and many more innovators in their fields, including, Nikolaus Pevsner, Lise Meitner and Karl Popper. 

Cara has been a lifeline to academics at risk for over 90 years enabling them to continue their teaching and research in safety, as and when world events have placed them in the line of fire: Hungarian Uprising, Cold War, Apartheid South Africa, Iran, Latin American Juntas, Vietnam, Kosovo, DRC, Rwanda, Sudan, Zimbabwe etc. and, more recently Iraq, Turkey, Yemen, Palestine, Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine.

Today, our Fellowship Programme convenes a network of 135 UK universities in the UK to secure research placements for at-risk academics and support for their families, continuing a longstanding commitment of protecting academics and preserving their knowledge and expertise.

Role & Responsibilities 

Casework 

• Signposting prospective applicants to the application form. 

• Manage own caseload, preparing cases for eligibility review, including arranging calls to speak with applicants, booking English language tests, and gathering all relevant documentation.

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Events Fundraiser to join our growing Income Generation & Communications team and support the delivery of fundraising events that make a real difference to local people and their families.

Reporting to the Community & Events Fundraiser Lead, you will play a key role in organising and delivering a range of fundraising and challenge events, helping to maximise income, recruit participants and provide excellent supporter experiences. You will combine strong event organisation and project management with a clear focus on fundraising, ensuring our events are delivered safely, professionally and cost-effectively while encouraging participants to develop a longer-term relationship with Cynthia Spencer Hospice.

You will work with volunteers, participants, suppliers and colleagues to ensure events are delivered successfully while building strong relationships with supporters and acting as an ambassador for Cynthia Spencer Hospice.

Duties and Key responsibilities

• Support the Community & Events Fundraiser Lead in delivering the Events Fundraising Strategy and contribute to annual income and activity planning.
• Coordinate and deliver an agreed portfolio within the annual fundraising events programme, working towards agreed income, participation and activity targets.
• Identify, research and recommend opportunities to develop and diversify the Hospice’s fundraising and challenge event portfolio.
• Create and manage detailed project plans, event schedules, timelines and critical delivery milestones.
• Work with the Community & Events Fundraiser Lead to plan and deliver flagship fundraising events such as the Twilight Walk and Colour Run, taking operational responsibility for agreed events within the programme.
• Coordinate event logistics including venues, suppliers, contractors, equipment and other operational requirements, ensuring events are delivered on time and within agreed budgets.
• Develop and grow the Hospice challenge events programme, researching new opportunities and managing relationships with relevant third-party event providers.
• Recruit, engage and support event and challenge participants, providing fundraising advice, resources and encouragement to help maximise their fundraising.
• Develop strong participant stewardship and communications, ensuring supporters receive timely recognition and thanks and encouraging repeat participation and longer-term engagement.
• Identify opportunities to maximise event income and return on investment through participant fundraising, additional income opportunities and effective cost management.

Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity is a small charity with big ambitions. We support brain tumour patients and families across Yorkshire and fund pioneering research in our region.

We're now looking for an exceptional Patient Empowerment Coordinator to lead the delivery of our exciting new Empowering Choices programme, funded by Macmillan Cancer Support.

This innovative project has been designed alongside people affected by brain tumours to ensure nobody faces their diagnosis alone. You'll help people in Yorkshire feel informed, confident and empowered throughout their journey by providing practical support, developing new resources, strengthening partnerships with NHS teams and creating opportunities for people to learn from others with lived experience.

CHOICE IN HACKNEY is looking for an experienced and motivated Disability Employment Coach to support disabled people to move towards employment, volunteering, education and training, while developing the confidence, skills and practical strategies needed for sustainable employment.

You will provide one-to-one employment coaching, helping participants identify their strengths, aspirations and goals and develop personalised action plans. You will support people to overcome barriers to employment through practical coaching, encouragement, problem-solving and appropriate signposting.

You will also help plan and deliver CHOICE IN HACKNEY’s Job Club, creating accessible and engaging sessions that encourage confidence, peer learning and mutual support. The Peripatetic Team is dynamic you will enter services at short notice to provide a continued high-quality level of support. Our colleagues bring a wide range of transferable skills and different experiences to the team that informs our practice and work with survivors.

You’ll be a passionate advocate who understands the importance of working in a psychologically informed way with both survivors and colleagues, and you will be willing to continuously learn and develop their skills. You have a good understanding of impact that violence against women and girls can have on women with intersecting identities. While prior experience of working with survivors of abuse is desirable, it is not an essential requirement.

Our Peripatetic workers are required to work across London and will move around these boroughs– Barnet, Bexley, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, Islington, Lambeth, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets, Westminster, Waltham Forest and may be on site full time or agile work.

You will support programme implementation, financial monitoring, reporting, monitoring and evaluation, and stakeholder engagement, with opportunities to contribute to field visits where appropriate.

Alongside the Myanmar programme, you will coordinate the RCPCH Global Visiting Fellows Scheme, supporting paediatric clinicians from low- and lower-middle-income countries to undertake one-month observerships within the UK/NHS. This will involve coordinating applications and selection, travel and accommodation, financial arrangements, NHS placements and pastoral support.

Key responsibilities include:

• Coordinating the delivery of programme activities with RCPCH Global's international partners, ensuring activities are delivered to agreed timescales and grant requirements
• Supporting programme implementation with partners including the Karenni Nurses' Association and University and the Myanmar Ethnic Health System Strengthening Group in association with Mae Tao Clinic
• Monitoring programme expenditure against agreed budgets and working closely with the RCPCH Finance Team to ensure accurate and timely financial reconciliation
• Coordinating invoicing and financial processes between RCPCH and programme partners
• Supporting donor communications, reporting and compliance requirements
• Maintaining regular communication with international programme partners and stakeholders, including through field visits where required
• Supporting the development of new grant proposals and future programme activity
• Supporting high-quality monitoring, evaluation and learning processes across the programme
• Coordinating the RCPCH Global Myanmar Advisory Group and supporting effective programme governance
• Representing RCPCH Global activities with external stakeholders and partners as required
• Supporting communications and promotional activity, including contributions to the RCPCH website, e-bulletins and publications
• Coordinating the RCPCH Global Visiting Fellows Scheme, including selection, communications, induction and ongoing support
• Organising travel, accommodation, transport and other logistical arrangements for Visiting Fellows
• Coordinating financial support and payments for Visiting Fellows, working closely with the Finance Team
• Liaising with NHS organisations and hospital trusts to coordinate and support Fellows' observerships
• Providing pastoral and practical support to Visiting Fellows during their time in the UK
• Coordinating Visiting Fellows' attendance at the RCPCH Annual Conference
• Supporting induction and debriefing sessions for Visiting Fellows

Essential skills and experience include:

• Degree-level or postgraduate qualification in international development, public health, global health, health systems strengthening, child health or equivalent relevant experience
• Experience successfully coordinating projects or programmes, ideally within the international development or health sectors
• Experience supporting programmes or project teams working remotely and, ideally, in field settings
• Experience working with a range of international stakeholders, including government partners, NGOs, donors, UN agencies or other international organisations
• Strong administrative, coordination and organisational skills, with experience supporting complex programmes
• Experience working with local partner organisations, government counterparts and international or multilateral donor agencies
• Experience supporting budgets, financial monitoring and programme reporting
• Understanding of donor requirements and grant-funded programme delivery
• Understanding of programme monitoring and evaluation processes
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly to a wide range of audiences
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through complex international development or health issues
• Excellent time management and the ability to prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a small, collaborative team
• Willingness and ability to travel within the UK and internationally, including occasional overnight stays, where required

Desirable:

• Experience working on health programmes or health systems strengthening initiatives
• Knowledge or experience of the Southeast Asia context
• Experience working on international child health or paediatric programmes
• Experience supporting international clinical education, training or capacity-building programmes

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery and ongoing development of supporter journeys across our in memoriam and celebration portfolio, placing supporters at the heart of everything you do.
• Oversee stewardship activity for all in memoriam supporters, including funeral giving, More than Memories Tribute Fund holders and dedication page supporters, ensuring communications are timely, personalised and compassionate.
• Build meaningful relationships with supporters, helping to create a lasting connection to our cause and communicating the impact of their support.
• Use data, insight and supporter feedback to identify opportunities to improve supporter acquisition, engagement, retention and income.
• Monitor and report on agreed financial and other KPIs, maximising opportunities and mitigating risks.
• Represent the In Memoriam and Celebration team internally, building strong relationships and raising awareness of our in memory products and opportunities.
• Support the In Memoriam Manager to develop, test and evaluate new supporter acquisition activity through warm and paid marketing campaigns.
