We are looking for an inspiring and strategic Head of Services and Engagement to ensure our services are impactful, accessible and centred around the needs of people living with arthritis.

The Role

Hybrid: Two fixed days in London office (Mondays and Wednesdays), three days at home.

The Head of Services and Engagement will lead the development, delivery and continuous improvement of Arthritis Action’s services and engagement activities. This is a key role responsible for ensuring that people affected by arthritis receive high-quality, evidence-based support and have meaningful opportunities to connect, participate and influence our work.

The postholder will oversee our membership and service portfolio, including community-based activities, self-management support and engagement programmes, ensuring they are effective, inclusive and aligned with organisational priorities. They will also support the creation of a sustainable volunteer model alongside our new Volunteer Manager, enabling volunteers to extend our reach, strengthen communities and increase our impact.

Key Responsibilities

Membership and Service Delivery

· Develop a strong understanding of the member and service user journey, using insight, feedback and data to identify opportunities to improve engagement, satisfaction, retention and outcomes at every stage.

· Oversee and lead on the delivery and continuous improvement of Arthritis Action’s member services, community activities, events, and other programmes.

· Develop approaches to increase access and engagement amongst diverse and underserved communities.

· Implement effective monitoring and evaluation processes to demonstrate impact.

· Work with colleagues to identify opportunities for service innovation, partnership working and growth and fundraising.

Engagement and Community Building

Volunteering Strategy and Development

· Help develop Arthritis Action’s volunteer strategy alongside the Volunteer Manager, creating a sustainable model that supports organisational priorities.

· Provide strategic oversight and support to the Volunteer Manager, ensuring effective volunteer recruitment, training, support and recognition.

· Establish appropriate volunteer policies, processes, safeguarding arrangements and systems.

Line Management

· Lead, motivate and develop the Services and Engagement Team.

· Manage budgets effectively, ensuring resources are used efficiently and deliver value.

· Work collaboratively across the organisation, particularly with Communications and Fundraising.

· Represent Arthritis Action externally with partners, stakeholders and sector networks.

About the role

The Side-by-Side project supports children in care and care leavers to have the same opportunities as those who have not experienced care.

For many young people, navigating the care system and especially the transition to leaving care can be complex, isolating, and overwhelming. Too often, care-experienced young people are expected to face adulthood before they are ready, without the safety nets of family, friends, and community networks that many of us take for granted.

The project provides a mentoring and befriending service, offering consistent, trusted relationships that help young people feel less alone, build confidence and life skills, and navigate key life changes as they move towards independence.

Side-by-Side supports young people with a range of needs, including those who may be at risk of exploitation, unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, and young people living with identified mental health challenges. The project is guided by strong safeguarding practice, built on trust, and delivered through trauma-informed, person-centred approaches.

Working 18 hours per week, you will work directly with young people through engagement sessions, group activities and co-designed initiatives. You will also work alongside volunteers, supporting them to safely and effectively engage with young people. This role does not involve acting as a young person’s key worker or holding a caseload. Instead your focus is on enabling connections, strengthening community networks and creating opportunities for young people to thrive across Solihull.

Please note this is a fixed term contract position for 12 months.

The generosity of individual supporters, churches and community groups enables Boaz Trust to provide accommodation and support for people seeking sanctuary, and to challenge and change the unjust systems that cause destitution, both locally and nationally. We are looking for a Fundraising Officer who will help us give supporters an excellent experience, maintain accurate fundraising records and develop opportunities for people and communities to get involved in our work. This is an exciting role which will give the right person the opportunity to work across a variety of fundraising activities and disciplines. 

The relationships built and fundraising activity enabled through this role will support Boaz’s work with people who are facing or experiencing homelessness because of their insecure, changing or uncertain immigration status. Our work includes providing safe accommodation and person-centred support, while working towards our mission of ending destitution among people seeking sanctuary.

Day to day, you will provide excellent care for supporters as you process and acknowledge donations, respond to supporter enquiries and ensure that our fundraising database is functioning well and information is recorded accurately in it. You will build positive relationships with supporters, churches and community groups, arrange and deliver speaking engagements, promote sponsored events and help people find meaningful ways to raise funds for Boaz. You will work also closely with colleagues to deliver fundraising projects across the breadth of Boaz’s fundraising activity as and when these arise.

· Qualified to a level 5 or above with a recognised professional qualification in social work, health, education or equivalent and have excellent communication skills.

Job Title: Community Engagment Lead

The successful candidate will lead on mapping services in the Borough; forming partnerships with statutory and voluntary agencies based on identified needs of the service to enhance and extend multi-disciplinary knowledge available at and through the Gaia Centre.

The post holder will be responsible for managing relationships with partner agencies and coordinating co-locations within the Gaia service as well as negotiating for staff from the service to co-locate with partner agencies.

You will build capacity for a community response to meet the needs of survivors of VAWG by drawing on the expertise of other specialist and by-and-for service providers, such as those working with LGBTQ+ victim/survivors, disabled victim/survivors or victim/survivors of so-called ‘honor’-based violence in order to provide a wraparound support as part of a broader service offer.

The post holder will also support a team of the Peer Support Mentors and volunteers who will be leading on some practical aspects of individual and group support for survivors accessing the Gaia Centre.

The successful candidate will be skilled at working with a diverse range of audiences and will be adept at creating and developing new partnerships and pathways that contribute towards coordinated community response and improve the lives of survivors of domestic abuse and gender-based violence.

Wigan Crisis Space is a new service providing a safe space for those in distress and struggling with unwanted thoughts and feelings. Looking to improve mental health and wellbeing, we connect individuals to a range of services to reduce low mood, anxiety and loneliness, develop new skills and ensure their voice is heard.
