Role Overview:
The role will be carried out in the finance department, which is situated within Battersea Park. The role will be reporting to the Head of Finance. Regular duties would initially consist of, but not be limited to, the below. They will be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure they are in line with development needs.
Central Services ensuresthe company operates smoothly and assists in working towards Enables strategic direction. Supporting the various services that make up Enable, Central Services consists of small and high output teams including Human Resources, Marcomms, Operations and Finance. Together, these teams make up the foundation of our business, driving our mission and fostering growth and development.
Main Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting processes, delivering to the agreed timetable.
- Line manage the Finance Officer, providing guidance, objective setting, appraisal and performance management.
- Prepare and post all month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments and payroll journals.
- Post deferred and accrued income entries in Sage Intacct in line with the organisation’s revenue recognition policy.
- Run monthly depreciation, post fixed asset journals and maintain the fixed asset register.
- Process internal and external recharges.
- Review the bank and credit card reconciliations prepared by the Finance Officer and the debtors control account reconciliation prepared by the Credit Controller.
- Check the trial balance against the management accounts and prepare management accounts narratives and variance commentary for review by the Head of Finance.
- Compile and analyse financial data to create accurate and timely reports for management review.
- Take responsibility for all balance sheet reconciliations other than the debtors control account (prepared by the Credit Controller) and the bank and credit card accounts (prepared by the Finance Officer), ensuring reconciling items are investigated and cleared promptly.
- Review payment runs prepared by the Finance Officer ahead of approval by the Head of Finance, deputising as approver in the Head of Finance’s absence.
- Approve routine accounts receivable credit notes in line with delegated authority; credit notes above the delegated threshold and all write-offs are approved by the Head of Finance.
- Support the Credit Controller with receivables adjustments, write-offs and account queries.
- Apply accounting policies in line with relevant accounting standards and ensure they are followed across the organisation, escalating any issues to the Head of Finance.
- Assist with the preparation of the annual financial statements under the Charities SORP (FRS 102).
- Support the annual audit, preparing working papers and responding to auditor queries.
- Prepare and submit ONS returns.
- Assist with the preparation of budgets, forecasts and cash flow forecasts.
- Business partner with cross-functional teams, providing financial expertise, guidance and training as required.
- Provide recommendations to minimise risk and improve financial performance: identify areas for improvement, propose solutions and implement agreed changes.
- Provide Sage Intacct training and support to non-finance users.
- Act as the first point of contact for junior members of staff with operational and technical queries.
Skills and Experience:
- Qualified Accountant - ACCA/ACA/CIMA.
- Experience operating at Management Accountant level within a charity or not-for-profit environment.
- Knowledge of relevant accounting systems. Strong IT literacy, Microsoft Excel in particular.
- Demonstrable experience of owning a month-end close and full balance sheet reconciliation cycle.
- Strong attention to detail and able to produce work to a high level of accuracy.
- Good problem-solving ability.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to non-finance colleagues.
- Ability to prioritise and work independently to deadlines.
- Experience of Sage Intacct.
- Knowledge of the Charities SORP (FRS 102) and fund accounting.
- Experience of delivering system training to non-finance users.
- Experience of ONS or other statutory return submissions.

About the role
We are looking for someone to join our small Finance Team in a varied role covering day-to-day finance as well as project finance and reporting.The role could suit a recent graduate looking to start and develop a career in finance, someone already working in finance who is looking for their next step, or a part-qualified candidate looking to broaden their experience.
The salary within the £26,000 to £30,000 range will depend on the successful candidate's experience, qualifications and the level of responsibility they are able to take on. The role can be worked over four or five days per week.
The role will initially be shaped around the successful candidate's existing skills and experience. The core responsibilities will cover transactional finance and finance administration, with additional responsibilities across project accounting, reconciliations, budgets and financial reporting introduced depending on experience and development within the role.
We are a small team, so the role is varied and offers a good opportunity to gain experience across a broad range of finance activities.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage the purchase ledger, including processing invoices in Sage, obtaining authorisations and dealing with supplier and internal queries.
- Apply the correct VAT treatment to invoices depending on the project. Training will be provided.
- Process staff expenses, checking receipts and supporting information and ensuring claims are authorised.
- Manage monthly timesheet authorisations and maintain accurate supporting records.
- Review farm grant applications before payment and collate financial evidence for grant claims, including payroll information, invoices, expenses and timesheets.
- Maintain finance records and provide supporting information for audit and year-end requirements.
- Assist with quarterly payments to Fishing Passport beat owners.
- Provide cover for sales invoicing, other Finance Team duties, general administrative duties and Fishing Passport telephone queries. Training will be provided.
Further Responsibilities and Development
Depending on experience, and as the successful candidate develops within the role, responsibilities may also include:
- Maintain project cashflows, including updating actual costs and forecasts, and work with Project Managers on budgets and finance queries.
- Maintain project budget templates, including staff day rates and other assumptions.
- Monitor project finances and highlight significant variances or issues.
- Manage pension payments and complete monthly pension reconciliations.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and assist with aged debtor and creditor reviews.
- Help prepare and submit grant claims and assist with Gift Aid claims, National Statistics returns and other finance returns.
- Maintain and reconcile in-kind contributions and finance information for new and existing projects.
- Help improve finance processes and reporting, including the use of Sage, Excel and Power Query.
There will also be opportunities to become involved in monthly management accounts and year-end statutory accounts as experience develops.

- Preparing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations, including deferred income and income provisions.
- Working closely with Payroll to ensure salary-related accruals and adjustments are accurately reflected within the accounts.
- Supporting budget holders and Finance colleagues with income and payroll queries, helping to identify root causes and reduce recurring issues.
- Providing cover and support around billing, income processing and cash collection, helping maintain resilient processes across the team.
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes, with a focus on getting things right first time and reducing manual entries at month and year-end.
- Supporting the preparation of statutory accounts and year-end audit, producing high-quality working papers and responding to auditor queries.
About you:
You will have a good understanding of income recognition, accruals, deferred income, provisions and payroll-related costs, alongside practical experience of balance sheet reconciliations and period close activities. Previous involvement in audit processes and preparing audit evidence or working papers will also be important.
Beyond your technical expertise, you will be proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to financial accuracy.
You will need:
- Studying towards or already hold a professional accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA
- Experience across financial accounting, income accounting and/or month-end processes.
- Comfortable working to tight deadlines.

- Practical experience of balance sheet reconciliations and period close activities.

St Gregory's Foundation (SGF) is a small UK charity that has been working alongside trusted partners in Eastern Europe for over 30 years. The role
We are looking for a suitable candidate, whether junior or experienced, to maintain our accounting and financial records and prepare our annual accounts.
The role includes maintaining and reconciling our QuickBooks accounts, processing bank transfers and payments, preparing financial and management reports for quarterly Board meetings, submitting Gift Aid claims, and preparing our annual accounts with the Reporting Accountant.
As a small charity, this is a varied role requiring someone who is organised, has an excellent eye for detail, is reliable, and is able to work independently while also being a good communicator and team player.
Main responsibilities
Monthly tasks
- Record day-to-day income and expenditure.
- Enter transactions into QuickBooks for our RBS accounts, including standing orders and CAF donations, and reconcile the accounts.
- Process bank transfers and payments.
- Arrange payment of invoices (held in OneDrive).
- Arrange payment for our freelance Online Communications Assistant.
- Arrange payment of the Executive Secretary's expenses.
- Attend brief remote meetings with the Executive Secretary and a member of the Board, as required, to discuss donations, donor records, QuickBooks entries and financial reports.
- Prepare financial and management reports for Board meetings (4–5 times a year).
Semi-annual and annual tasks
- Prepare and submit Gift Aid claims twice a year: after the financial year end (31 December) and after the end of the tax year (5 April). Ensure Gift Aid declarations are completed by eligible donors.
- Prepare the annual accounts with the Reporting Accountant (once a year).
- Prepare a budget review with the Executive Secretary (twice a year).
Key skills and experience
- Relevant accountancy or bookkeeping qualification and/or experience.
- Experience of preparing annual accounts and financial reports.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to prioritise and manage your workload effectively.
- Experience of using QuickBooks would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of charity accounting would be an advantage.

About the role
As our Management Accountant, you’ll play an important role in helping Compassion in World Farming make well-informed financial decisions. Working within our Finance Business Partnering team, you’ll provide accurate and timely management information, support budgeting and forecasting, and help ensure our financial data, coding and reporting structures are robust and reliable.
As part of this new role, you’ll be responsible for:
- Management reporting and analysis - Preparing monthly management accounts, variance analysis and clear financial commentary.

About you

- Experience of producing, reviewing or supporting monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and clear commentary.
- Experience of supporting budgeting and forecasting processes, and explaining movements against budget.
- Experience of working with accounting or finance systems, ideally Netsuite or a similar system.
- Strong Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables, data sorting and analysis.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with a proactive approach to identifying and correcting errors.
- The ability to communicate financial information in a clear, accessible and supportive way to non-finance colleagues.
- Experience of charity finance, restricted and unrestricted funds, grant coding or donor reporting would be beneficial.
