Who we are looking for  

Breakthrough T1D is the UK’s leading type 1 diabetes charity, dedicated to funding research, advocating for change, and supporting the T1D community. A year into our exciting rebrand from JDRF to Breakthrough T1D, we’re looking for a Senior Policy and Public Affairs Officer – Devolved Nations to help us build on this momentum. 

The role of the Senior Policy and Public Affairs Officer - Devolved Nations is vital to achieving our UK-wide advocacy mission: to reduce health inequalities in type 1 diabetes, to widen access to type 1 diabetes treatments and technologies and to ensure that people with type 1 get access to emerging new treatments and future cures in the devolved nations.  

You will lead on projects with key stakeholders and high-level Parliamentarians, such as our access to treatments and early detection work, as well as people with type 1 diabetes, policy makers and researchers. You will help to deliver Breakthrough T1D’s influencing plans, improving access to and choice of type 1 diabetes treatments and technology in the devolved nations.  

Experience required 

• Experience of working successfully with politicians, their offices, Government departments, and other public affairs audiences to influence policy and to influence public/stakeholder discourse  

• Experience of leading public affairs delivery in one of more of the devolved nations  

• Experience in analysing Government policy in-depth and creating policy briefings   

• Experience of drafting briefings, reports and policy submissions   

• Experience of communicating across a range of parliamentary and professional stakeholders at all levels  

• Demonstrable knowledge, interest and experience of working in a public affairs and policy-based environment  

• Experience of organising stakeholder events

• Proven ability to build positive relationships effectively with internal stakeholders, external partner agencies and local authorities
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and find solutions to operational challenges
• Ability to travel up to 40 days per year

We have worked in Birmingham for six years and the need and urgency for our work is greater than ever, with live grassroots campaigns across the city mobilising people to come together to save libraries, youth services and social housing. We know that a shared root cause of all of these crises is the city's economic system, and that meaningful change requires bringing people together across different perspectives and positions to build a shared understanding of how that system works and where the opportunities for change lie.

This role leads our work across Birmingham at an exciting moment. We are developing a participatory, community-centred approach to analysing the city's economy, identifying opportunities for change and coordinating alliances to act on them. This means bringing together mixed groups, including grassroots changemakers, researchers, funders and other partners, and facilitating processes that help people make sense of complex information together, find common ground and make decisions about collective priorities. The role requires someone who can hold these processes well: strong facilitation skills, communicating complex ideas accessibly, building trust across groups, sustaining momentum over time and helping diverse coalitions move from analysis to strategy to action.

The Senior Programme Manager will develop and deliver initiatives that support a growing movement for economic justice across the city, with a particular focus on building support and engagement amongst grassroots changemakers and communities experiencing economic injustice. It will manage projects and resources, conduct programme development and delivery, oversee outreach and partnerships, changemaker recruitment and contribute to fundraising, ultimately playing a key role in shaping our regional impact. This position is crucial in coordinating our work across Birmingham and driving meaningful collaboration with local and national stakeholders, in particular working collaboratively with Economic Justice Brum, a long-standing initiative working on local economic systems change.

This is also an exciting time for our place-based work more broadly. We are developing and deepening our practice across multiple regions, and the appointed candidate will join a growing programme team with real opportunity to shape our approach, contribute to our thinking about what effective place-based economic justice work looks like, and help set the strategic direction for this area of our work.

Programme Development 

• Working closely with the Co-Executive Director and Senior Programme Manager (Wales), lead the ongoing translation of People’s Economy’s strategy into a programme of work in Birmingham.

• Working closely with the Co-Executive Director lead outreach and relationship building with community and civil society partners. 

• Working closely with the Head of Community, lead the development of People’s Economy’s programme of outreach and relationship building with changemakers and grassroots groups in Birmingham.

Programme Delivery

• Working closely with the Programme Team, coordinate the delivery of People’s Economy’s programme of work in Birmingham and ensure it is well embedded, integrated and supportive in the local economic justice landscape. 

• Play a leading role in our collaborative work with Economic Justice Brum ensuring consistent coordination, support and relational working. 

• Lead on organising the logistics and resources required to effectively deliver People’s Economy’s programme of work in Birmingham. 

• Working closely with the Programme Team, coordinate the monitoring, evaluation and learning of People’s Economy’s programme of work in Birmingham. 

• Working closely with the Programme Team, recruit and onboard changemakers to opportunities within People’s Economy’s training and support programmes. 

• With support from the Head of Training, act as lead trainer and facilitator for these programmes. 

• Facilitate spaces and workshops for our changemakers, partners and other stakeholders. 

• Maintain relationships with changemakers while they are involved in People’s Economy’s programmes and act as a key point of contact.

Supporting other work strands

• Feed into the development and implementation of other work strands, you are expected to be willing to travel regularly to support our place-based work in at least one other region (Hartlepool, London).

• Work closely with the Senior Programme Manager (Wales) to explore how our different regional programmes intersect and can strengthen through collaboration and connected working. 

Managing projects and people

• Work with the Head of People and Operations to recruit and oversee freelancers for your programme areas. 

• Line manage freelancers contributing to People’s Economy’s programme of work in Birmingham, and any staff roles which (in future) report to this role. 

• Manage (or contribute to) non-programme projects that contribute to achieving People’s Economy’s goals, as agreed with the Co-Executive Directors.

• Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure a joined-up approach across People’s Economy’s work.

Financial management and income generation

• With support from the Co-Executive Directors and Head of People & Operations, develop and manage budgets for your programmes of work.

• With support from the Co-Executive Directors contribute to income generation by leading the development of agreed identified opportunities, including by holding key relationships with existing and potential funders.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Engagement Programme 

• Plan, co-ordinate and deliver an engaging public programme of visitor led events, aimed at building new audiences and boosting our visitor numbers 
• Work with the Head of Engagement, to develop the group visit offer, ensuring forthcoming anniversaries and activities are exploited 
• Support the Head of Engagement to deliver the Social Justice Programme, identifying opportunities within existing talks and tours programming to further support the annual theme
• Provide administration of all groups and public tours, ensuring they are booked and co-ordinated accurately 
• Coordinate with the Audience Development Manager to evaluate visitor and volunteer feedback, taking action to make improvements as necessary  
• Work with external stakeholders and speakers to deliver an engaging year-round expert talks series

Financial administration

• Work with the Finance Team, ensure all fees for engagement events are invoiced and paid for in advance 

 Relationships 

• Line management of the Cathedral Guides volunteer team, working with the Head Guide to ensure guides are kept up to date of Cathedral policy and are trained and delivering excellent customer service 
• Work with the Verging and Property team to ensure events are coordinated and delivered to a high professional standard  

 Other 

• Support the Head of Engagement to deliver large scale public events providing administrating and on the day delivery support

Appalled by the scenes playing out across the capital, a group of people came together to tackle the challenge head on. About you:

The Data Integration and Automation Officer is an exciting role at MDUK, that will sit within the Finance and Resources Team.

​

You'll design, build, and maintain automated data synchronisations across organisational systems, taking ownership of end-to-end workflows from requirements through to implementation and handover.

​

You'll work closely with multiple departments to understand data requirements, modernise data processing practices, and deliver reliable automated data flows using tools such as APIs, Power Automate, and Python. 

​

You'll be a technically skilled and collaborative professional with experience in API integration (REST/SOAP), automation tools such as Power Automate, and Python-based data processing.

​

You'll require strong knowledge of data management principles, including validation, transformation, and system integration across platforms such as CRMs, finance systems, and cloud applications.

​

You'll be responsible for designing and delivering end-to-end data workflows, from requirements gathering through to deployment and documentation.

​

You'll be confident in engaging with non-technical stakeholders, lead workshops, analyse existing processes, and implement practical improvements.

We’re an award-winning charity running local learning centres in the heart of the communities where the young people we support live. Our centres provide a high-impact education programme which includes practical learning support, pastoral care, and motivational and confidence-building activities for young people aged 7-18. Our aim is to enable students from the least advantaged neighbourhoods to realise their ambitions and achieve their wonderful potential.

As the UK’s leading university access organisation, our staff team is helping over 50,000 young people each year at its 44 learning centres and extension projects across England and Scotland, and we plan to scale-up our provision to 50 centres over the coming years.

We are seeking a Systems and Impact Support Officer to join us to work closely with our Head of Data and Impact and Impact and Evaluation Manager. The role will include administering and developing our database, producing regular reports for varied internal and external audiences, and analysing and summarising information to support programme delivery and decision‑making. As part of a small team, you’ll be involved in providing key data support from the start.

Full training in Excel, Salesforce and data will be provided by the charity’s experts. Prior experience in these areas is not essential, as long as you are a quick learner who is keen to develop your skills. The role is busy and fast-paced. You’ll be meticulous, organised and work to high standards, with a sharp eye for detail. You will enjoy problem solving, have the ability to produce well-presented documentation and be pro-active in helping us to improve and innovate.

The kind of things we’re looking for…

• A minimum of CIPD Level 5 qualification (or working towards), or equivalent experience.

• Ability to unlock potential in line reports – via resource planning, growth and development-focused conversations, plus effective delegation – to bring out the best in everyone.

• Strong knowledge of UK employment law, GDPR, payroll, pensions, and benefits compliance.

• Proficiency with HRIS systems and using data to inform insight-led decision-making.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including advising and supporting managers on complex people matters, with the willingness to choose courage over comfort.

• Experience in analysing and reporting People data and metrics, ideally with experience in designing dashboards and advanced People metrics reporting.

• Proven project management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, work effectively with outsourced providers/external suppliers, and go further together.

• Track record of overseeing, optimising and streamlining People processes (e.g. recruitment, payroll, compliance) to support organisational growth and raise the bar – ideally with experience in introducing new or improved employee benefits.

• Potential to contribute to organisational design and change management initiatives.

• Awareness of facilities and workplace management, including H&S, accessibility and supplier/contract oversight, with the ability to escalate and take decisions where required.

• A passion to be a force for good and to uphold JEDI in all areas – ideally with a background in the charity, purpose-led or values-driven sector.
