Purpose of the Job
We are looking for the Head Chef to play a key role leading the team at Felix’s Kitchen to continue and grow on the success of the last four years of operations.
Felix’s Kitchen opened in 2021 and has grown its impact and output since then, to now be a one-of-a-kind kitchen producing 4.5-5 thousand ready meals 6 days a week made from surplus ingredients.
No two days will ever be the same, we work with surplus ingredients meaning each dish is unique and based on the incredible seasonal surplus ingredients we have received into out Poplar Depot based next to the kitchen. We have a core team of staff who run the operation but our work force in made up volunteers who support all aspects of our kitchen operations.
The new Head Chef will line manage the chef team of roughly 10 people and be working in our main production kitchen every day, leading the team from the front, setting the standards and organising the days production.
Whilst managing, planning and leading are the core of the role it is a hands-on role working in the kitchen to achieve the daily production targets, setting the standards and cooking new recipes each day.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead the Kitchen side of the operation on a day-to-day basis, setting the prep, packing and cooking schedules for the day(s) ahead
• Support the team from the front in delivering the days output objectives and problem solving across the kitchen operation
• Line Manage the Kitchen team, focussed on the daily management but also working on people and team management alongside the kitchen manager
• Work alongside the kitchen management team to ensure all H&S, Food Safety and HACCP standards are met & monitored effectively
• Participate in all external Health & Safety and Food Safety audits and carry out internal audits/checklist
• Be accountable for the creation of unique recipe and spec sheets every day and managing the team to do so
• Create and monitor the packing list for the packing team to produce the final meal products, ensuring accurate labelling and allergen information is given Monitorand control inbound food supplies, ensuring the ingredients are used effectively and safely
• Maintaining cleanliness standards throughout the kitchen and food storage areas
• Working alongside the kitchen manager on improving quality, quantity and consistency of Felix Meals
• Ensure the team can provide a hot lunch for the staff at Poplar each day from our surplus ingredients
• Working to support the volunteers in the kitchen, with hands on instructions and overall experience management.

Felix’s Kitchen is a truly unique operation; we are looking for someone with experience cooking in a large production operation however people skills, working style and personality are the most important part of this role.
Being able to adapt and plan on the go is essential, enjoying knowing that each day will require a tweak to the plan and approaching this in a posistive manner is key. Being excited by the joy and the challenge of working with surplus food, adapting recipes and plans with the team.
You will be working with a diverse team of staff and volunteers, being open to meeting new people everyday and supporting them with your experience and knowledge. Ensuring our standards are always met but the volunteer experience is enjoyable and productive.

In the 1980s, high unemployment and steep inflation was contributing to a shocking rise in youth homelessness across London. Thousands of young people were sleeping rough every night, with many areas notoriously dubbed “cardboard cities” due to the visible rise in street homelessness. Appalled by the scenes playing out across the capital, a group of people came together to tackle the challenge head on. Led by Cardinal Basil Hume and Mark McGreevy OBE, in 1989 Depaul UK was born.

The Purpose of the Role
The Refugee Employability Officer will provide tailored employability support to resettled refugees in Hampshire under the Afghan Resettlement Programme (ARP), the United Kingdom Resettlement Scheme (UKRS), Community Sponsorship and other eligible schemes.
The role delivers structured one-to-one and group-based support focusing on supporting individuals towards employment. This will include agreeing and supporting individuals towards employability related goals and actions within the Individual Support Plan, job search and application support, interview preparation, understanding UK workplace expectations, employer engagement, and links to training, apprenticeships and (where appropriate) self-employment. This work will support individuals often facing barriers such as limited English, recognition of overseas qualifications, childcare responsibilities, health needs or confidence challenges.
Employability support will be integrated within wider Integration support planning to promote sustainable economic independence, strengthen longer-term integration outcomes and support access to appropriate public services where needed.
Key Working Relationships
This position will work closely with all staff involved in the delivery of the Hampshire Resettlement and Integration Support Service. This will include the Programme Manager (Resettlement and Integration), Programme Manager (Economic Empowerment), Senior Integration and Resettlement Officers, Integration Officer, Bilingual Integration Officer, Bilingual Resettlement Officers, ESOL and Education colleagues, Employment Caseworkers and other relevant staff.
This position will also work closely with staff at our partner organisation, Citizen Advice Rushmoor, Jobcentre Plus (DWP), statutory funded employment support services (ie Connect to Work), education and training providers, employers, and relevant advice organisations across Hampshire.

Employability support to individuals (55%)
Conduct structured individual assessments to identify skills, qualifications, employment history, transferable competencies and career aspirations, translating these into clear and realistic actions and goals within an Individual Support Plan.
Deliver tailored job readiness support through one-to-one coaching and group-based workshops, including CV development, interview preparation, UK workplace norms, digital literacy, job search strategies and confidence-building.
Support individuals to access and sustain employment opportunities, facilitating job matching, including liaising with employers, facilitating introductions, supporting applications and providing on the job follow-up assistance to promote job retention and progression.
Monitor and respond to employment and training‑related risks, including exploitation, unsafe work and discrimination, ensuring appropriate safeguarding action, advocacy for clients, and partnership working with Citizens Advice Rushmoor and other external partners.

Experience
Essential
Minimum two years of related experience, delivering tailored employability support with refugees, migrants or other vulnerable populations in Hampshire.**
Experience delivering one-to-one employability coaching and/or group-based job readiness workshops in diverse, multi-lingual and cross-cultural environments.
Experience conducting outreach to the private sector to build relationships and raise awareness.
Experience supporting clients to access employment, education and training opportunities, including liaising with Jobcentre Plus (DWP), training providers and employers where appropriate.
Experience handling confidential documents and sensitive information.**
Prior experience of using a client relationship management system or case management database, with accurate case noting and outcome tracking.
Desirable
Experience supporting clients with self-employment pathways, including UK start-up basics (e.g., sole trader/limited company options, HMRC registration/Self Assessment) and signposting to appropriate business advice and start-up support services.

Therapeutic Management
To manage and support a staff team, including the Head of Active Recovery, a Counselling Lead, Nexus Counselling Manager, a Family Support Group Facilitator, and administrators.
To oversee all of the charity’s therapeutic services and ensure that efficient and high-quality services are delivered.
To be the charity’s Designated Safeguarding Lead to respond effectively and efficiently to safeguarding concerns.
To ensure staff are sufficiently trained in adult and child safeguarding and that training records are kept up-to-date.
To oversee the charity’s pre-trial therapy processes and be a point of contact for the police.
To develop and improve the charity’s therapeutic services, including any expansion of the services.
To manage therapeutic recruitment, inductions and training.
To hold monthly staff meetings and service team meetings when needed.
To oversee the individual and group supervision arrangements and reporting for all staff.
To manage and have overall responsibility for the ongoing use of an online Case Management System, ensuring that data is inputted accurately for reporting purposes.
To support the charity’s quality assurance and development of its services through monitoring and responding to client feedback and outcomes data.
To develop the charity’s survivor voice work and ensure that the charity’s services are informed by survivors and their lived experience.
To manage any complaints raised by clients.
Leadership
To work collaboratively as part of a Leadership Team to make decisions and resolve issues affecting the day-to-day running of the charity and management of its staff team.
To strategically plan and develop the therapeutic services of the charity.
To develop relationships with partner agencies and professionals to raise awareness of our therapeutic services and strengthen our work.
To build and maintain a positive working relationship with the Board of Trustees.
To attend and contribute to trustee meetings and trustee working group meetings, reporting on the therapeutic services and any clinical matters arising.
To assist in promoting the charity by attending all relevant meetings directly connected with your work.
To undertake any other duties appropriate to the needs of the charity.
Client Work
To provide one-to-one counselling for survivors of abuse of all genders, both online / by phone and face-to-face, with a caseload of approximately 4 clients.
To maintain confidential and accurate counselling notes of all sessions.
To attend monthly one-to-one clinical supervision with a supervisor approved by the Southmead Project. (Supervision is a requirement of this charity as members of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).
To attend monthly one-to-one line management meetings.
To work to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy ethical guidelines.
To work within the framework, spirit and ethos of the Southmead Project’s Equal Opportunities Policy, and actively engage in promoting the policy within the charity and in all dealings with clients and other agencies.
