This is a self-employed position and you will be paid a sessional rate.
Our Service
NYAS provides mental health advocacy to individuals within mental health settings throughout the UK.
Our service provides independent advocacy to people within mental health hospitals and community-based settings. We support individuals to ensure their voice is heard regarding their care and treatment and that they are aware of their rights.
This also includes representing them during various meetings such as ward rounds and at multi-disciplinary team meetings. This role requires you to produce written reports to ensure that the views of patients are fully represented.
We work with adults and children and young people.
DO YOU HAVE:
- Direct experience of working with children/young people or vulnerable adults in a social care or mental health setting.
- Experience and understanding of child protection/vulnerable adult safeguarding procedures
- Ability to maintain professionalism at all times
- An understanding of the importance of listening to children/young people and vulnerable adults without bias or prejudice.
- Ability to communicate in an effective way.
- Ability to record concise case notes and produce good quality reports

Safeguarding and Training
You will be required to complete annual safeguarding and compliance training including, Personal Safety, Data Protection, Information Security, Safeguarding and Equality and Diversity.
You will be able to subscribe to an e-learning platform provided by NYAS. The platform will provide you with the opportunity to undertake a number of other professional courses that you can complete in your own time to maintain your own CPD.

Role Context
Recovery in Community is a successful partnership between Manchester Mind and Gaddum. We support people to manage and live with their mental health in their community. Staff are employed by both organisations but work together collaboratively and as a team.
Role Purpose
You will be building trusting and kind relationships with the understanding that they enable people to be listened to and heard and that this makes a difference.
You will work with people prior to discharge from mental health hospital and then support the person get the care they need so they can recover in the community. We want to enable people to feel connected within their communities – to services, friends and family.
This role will work with a small but intensive caseload (max 15 cases) to focus on:
· Get people home: when people are sent to an out of area placement (OAPs) advocate to get them back to Greater Manchester so they can recover in their community.
· Discharge: Supporting people when they’re ready to be discharged from inpatient mental health services to get back to the community and recover.
· Prevent re-admissions: Work with people, post-discharge, to ensure they continue to get the support they need to make informed choices, stay well and ultimately thrive.

Main responsibilities:
· To provide support to people that are ready to be discharged from inpatient psychiatric care to return to the community with the services and resources they need to recover.
· To work alongside people post-discharge, in their community setting to ensure they get what they need to stay well.
· To effectively and independently manage a small but intensive caseload (max 15 cases), being flexible to people’s needs and short-term changes in schedule.
· To work in a person-centred, trauma informed and culturally appropriate way that enables people to effectively engage with services and make sustainable links in with their communities.

· Identify when people need referrals to secondary services and make appropriate referrals.
· Independently visit people in inpatient and community settings in Manchester and across Greater Manchester, adhering to lone working and risk management procedures.
· Occasionally visit people out of the Greater Manchester area who need to return to their community in Manchester (all travel expenses will be paid and non-commute travel time will be part of your working day).
· Build relationships with key professionals to ensure individuals achieve their goals (e.g. inpatient staff, social care, CMHTs, community services etc).
· Effectively engage in multi-disciplinary meetings, representing the views of people, and their aspirations on returning to community settings.
· Support the development of a supportive and productive referral route into and out of the service.
· Support the development of this new service, responding professionally to changes as we improve and evolve our working practice collaboratively.

About the role:
For women facing multiple disadvantage, the right support can be the difference between remaining trapped by systems and beginning to rebuild safety, choice and control. As our Specialist Multiple Disadvantage Worker at Grace House, you’ll provide skilled, persistent and compassionate support to women whose experiences may include homelessness, domestic abuse, trauma, substance use, poor mental health and contact with the criminal justice system.
Using a gender and trauma-informed approach, you’ll build trusting relationships and work alongside women at their own pace. You’ll manage complex casework, advocate firmly on their behalf and help navigate services and systems that can often feel fragmented or difficult to access. You’ll use creativity, professional judgement and tenacity to challenge barriers and help women move forward on their own terms.
You’ll also bring your expertise into multi-agency discussions, ensuring women’s voices, experiences and priorities remain central to the decisions made about their support. Working closely with colleagues and external partners, you’ll help shape responsive, coordinated support and contribute to the continued development of practice across Grace House.

Role Context
Recovery in Community is a collaborative initiative delivered in partnership between Gaddum and Manchester Mind. The service supports people to leave inpatient mental health settings and return to their community with the support they need to recover and remain well.
As a team, we deliver psycho-social interventions, advocacy, housing and welfare rights advice, peer support to adults as well as tailored support to young people (those under the age of 25).All we do is underpinned by listening and ensuring people feel heard – because we know that when people are listened to, they recover. The team works with colleagues within the mental health, primary care, inpatient and community sectors.
Role Purpose
As a Peer Support Worker, you will have lived or living experience of receiving mental health care or treatment in hospital. Using your expertise gained through this experience, you will support peers in their mental health recovery who are ready to leave hospital or are already in the community. Receiving support from your colleagues, you’ll develop and manage your casework practice and hold a small case load.
You will walk alongside people to set achievable goals to ensure they get the support that they need, ultimately feeling connected to their communities – the right services and support network.

Whilst the role will not include responsibility for volunteers or safeguarding management, we are keen for someone who can make appropriate day-to-day decisions, take ownership of their work and confidently support guests, whilst recognising when more complex matters should be escalated.

You will receive training on the IPS model and in supporting people with mental health issues. What you’ll be doing
You will work with clients (managing a caseload) who have mental health support needs, to assist them in securing sustainable paid employment in line with their preferences. You will deliver the IPSapproach (for which training will be given); providing person centred support and guidance to clients, whilst building positive relationships with local employers to enable clients to move into suitable employment.
You will work as part of a mental health team (NHS Trust) maintaining positive and integrated relationships, fostering a holistic approach to recovery through employment. You will work closely with clinical teams, providing a coordinated approach thatalways remainsclient led.
You will be based at one of the following NHS mental health treatment teams:
- Enfield's Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) service, Lucas House Edmonton
- Community Rehabilitation Team Enfield, Park Avenue, Enfield Town
You will spend up to 65% of your week working in the community of Enfield to provide localised support to residents of the Borough.
You will also be working to contract targets whilst maintaining a high-quality service.

- To broker and establish new partnerships between public and voluntary sector agencies to enhance service delivery and access to services
- To develop and sustain professional relationships with service users, partner agencies and appropriate external agencies
- To complete locally agreed quality outcome measures, with patients and to undertake regular reviews

About you
Essential:
- A diploma or degree in an appropriate subject, e.g. counselling, psychology, social work, probation, mental health, or Health and Social Care Level 3; and/or a minimum of two years’ community experience in drug, alcohol or mental health work.
- Understanding and ability to work to confidentiality, consent, information sharing and safeguarding policies within an integrated service.
- Good communication and written skills, with a commitment to accurate and confidential record keeping.
- Ability to interact effectively with the client group, colleagues and other professionals while maintaining clear boundaries.
- Ability to break down stigma and barriers associated with working with the client group.
- Understanding of the issues and needs of the client group.
- Knowledge and understanding of community working and lone working, with the ability to maintain safety while working in the community.
- Ability to work to all policies, procedures and standards of the service and joint-working arrangements with key partners.
- Good understanding of personal limitations, with the ability to identify when to seek advice and support and deal with emotionally challenging issues objectively and professionally.
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour, anger and verbal aggression from patients.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
- Ability to enter data onto a database as required by the service.
