About the role
This is a newly redesigned role created following a review of Robin Cancer Trust's support services.
The Community & Support Lead will play a key role in ensuring that people affected by testicular and ovarian germ cell cancers can access compassionate support, trusted information, meaningful connections and opportunities to shape our future work.
We particularly welcome applications from nurses and other healthcare professionals who may be looking for a career change, greater flexibility, or an opportunity to use their skills in a non-clinical setting. About the role

The Patient Support Service provides practical, emotional and financial support for anyone affected by chronic kidney disease. Whatever the need presented, we empower people living with CKD and their families and carers to understand their options and make informed choices to positively navigate their experience of CKD. We’ll walk alongside them for as long as they need us to.
About the Role
Our regional Patient Support Officers play a key role in establishing Kidney Care UK in their designated region and enabling patients, their families, carers and professionals to access independant support on social, financial, health advocacy and wellbeing.
You will proactively engage with kidney patients and their families as a source of advice,information, and support to improve care and wellbeing outcomes for kidney patients. You will seek to inform and empower individuals, providing the tools and knowledge to enable confident self-management and be the regional face of Kidney Care UK patient support services, raise awareness of the service and the Charity and build strong relationships with kidney patients, the renal units, Kidney Patient Associations (KPAs), health professionals and other kidney stakeholder groups in the region.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the Patient Support Service across the region and the effective management of a caseload. This involves regular attendance at renal clinics in the region, building relationships with health and care professionals and being available for patients in the renal unit, on the phone or online, or to meet at a mutually convenient public location.

About you
You will have an empathy with our patient group and an understanding of kidney disease and the needs of people with kidney disease, their families and carers. You will be able to work independantly and have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and above all have the ability to deal professionally, calmly and sympathetically with people affected by kidney disease.
An understanding of the relevant UK benefits legislation and entitlements is essential as is having excellent IT skills, including Word, Powerpoint and Excel. You will hold an Advice and Guidance qualification or be willing to complete it within 6 months of service in the role.
The role is home based but you will need to live within the region that you are applying for and have the ability to travel independantly throughout the area on a regular basis and to attend national meetings/events as required. There will also be a requirement to undertake occasional evening and weekend work and some flexibility to be able to work some irregular hours to meet the needs of our patients.
The areas are as follows:
North East: Newcastle Upon Tyne, Sunderland and North Cumbria. This role is part funded by the North Gas Network through the vulnerability and carbon monoxide allowance fund.
South West: Cornwall, Devon, Exeter and Plymouth. This role is funded by Wales and West Utilities through the vulnerability and carbon monoxide allowance fund.

Job Summary
This role will lead the development, setup, and delivery of individual locations within our new hyper-local Early Diagnosis Programme designed to improve bowel cancer awareness and timely presentation in communities most affected by health inequalities. Central to the role is establishing strong partnerships - working with local cancer alliances or health boards, primary care, community pharmacies, employers, and community and faith groups - to create tailored, locally driven plans.
The post holder will oversee the design of bespoke 12-month delivery plans for each location, selecting and coordinating relevant Bowel Cancer UK interventions and ensuring all activity is grounded in local insight and evidence.
This role will be critical in delivering the first phase of the Early Diagnosis Programme, generating learning, refining the model, and laying the foundations for potential future scale-up across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and deliver local early diagnosis programmes by developing tailored, evidence-based 12‑month plans to improve bowel cancer awareness and early presentation in targeted communities.
Build and manage strong multi-agency partnerships with health systems, primary care, community groups, employers, and other stakeholders to drive coordinated, high-impact local activity.
Coordinate programme delivery and impact by managing volunteers, overseeing implementation and evaluation frameworks, and using insights to refine and scale the programme nationally.

• Produce post-event evaluations and recommendations in line with agreed requirements.
• Use insight, pipeline information and performance data to review results, identify trends and recommend improvements to future activity.
• Manage the day-to-day planning and delivery of key events and campaigns, making decisions within agreed plans, budgets and fundraising procedures.
• Take responsibility for health and safety in community fundraising activities, ensuring appropriate risk assessments are completed and relevant fundraising and safety procedures are followed.
• Respond appropriately to unexpected incidents at community fundraising events, following agreed procedures and escalating where needed.
• Take an active role in setting up and clearing down events and community fundraising activities, including periods of standing and occasional unsocial hours.
• Arrange appropriate Pepper Foundation attendance at local community events when needed.
• Manage resources effectively, including volunteer support, to maximise reach, income and engagement.
Reporting
• Produce regular reports on pipeline, activity, outcomes, income performance and learning for the Head of Fundraising, highlighting opportunities, risks and recommendations.
