Lead counsellor jobs

The Counselling Coordinator role is key to SEL Mind's exciting new counselling service for Black residents of Southwark, delivered as part of the wider Southwark Wellbeing Hub. This role will shape the Wellbeing Hub's provision to Black communities, expanding equitable access to culturally-appropriate support. The main working site is a community centre in Southwark.

As Coordinator, you will provide initial clinical assessments to prospective service users and coordinate a small pool of Trainee Counsellors, expanding future access to Black-led counselling. You'll line manage an Administrator who is responsible for scheduling and other practical elements of the service. You'll also work closely in partnership with Black Psychotherapy to deliver relevant, de-colonial approaches.

We are seeking a qualified therapist who is passionate about improving Black people's access to early mental health support. Relationships and partnership working is vital, so you should be able to work independently but collaboratively, to be proactive and show initiative. 

The role will involve:

• Undertaking skilled assessments of client needs and risks, taking into account the nature and complexity of presenting needs and suitability for short-term therapeutic work
• Recruiting and training volunteer Counsellors, ensuring trauma-informed work integrating spirituality and cultural values, using creative therapeutic modalities, and maintaining therapeutic relationships that honour diverse healing approaches
• Contributing to the development and continuous improvement of the service, bringing recommendations to support the SWH's inclusivity and best practice

This role involves providing culturally specific support to Black clients. Applicants must be able to demonstrate lived experience as a part of, and deep cultural understanding within, Black communities, and the ability to build trust with Black service users.

CONTEXT

An estimated 12,000 men are raped every year and 76,000 sexually abused or assaulted. Yet just 4% of men will tell someone. Of those who do, it takes on average 26 years to do so.

Survivors UK provides specialist support to (cis and trans*) men and boys, and to non-binary people, who have been raped, sexually assaulted or abused. Our aim is to help any man, boy, or non-binary person, to have the confidence to tell someone what’s happened to them, and to know that it’s OK to seek help. When they do, we want to ensure they have access to the right support so they can deal with the impact of their experiences.

We provide emotional support, information and signposting to survivors and anyone worried about someone they know, through a national website and webchat service (open till 8pm most evenings). Last year, 2,600 people contacted us via our webchat services and social media.

In London, we are the only organisation providing specialist services for men and boys, including individual counselling and therapeutic groupwork, available till 9pm six days a week. Across London, we provide the capital’s only Independent Sexual Advisor (ISVA) Service that helps men and boys through the criminal justice system.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an exciting role at Survivors UK which combines counselling and practical support, specifically to the (circa) 150 people who refer themselves for individual counselling with us each year. You will work specifically with young people aged 13+ and people from Black, Asian and Multi-Heritage communities who have experienced sexual violence.

The people served include those with clinical mental health diagnoses, drug and alcohol dependencies, at risk of suicide, homelessness or involved in the sex industry. You will need to be a highly skilled counsellor with experience of dealing with very vulnerable clients, willing to work flexibly and on your own initiative. Importantly, you will be a compassionate person, able to blend therapeutic work with practical support and care.

Main responsibilities include:

• Provide counselling and practical support interventions to boys, men, trans people and non-binary people from the BAM community who have been raped, sexually abused or assaulted with high levels of need and who are most vulnerable.
• Deliver counselling interventions by phone, video calling and face-to-face with clients 13+ years old.
• With clients, develop action plans to help them address emotional and practical needs and ensure clients can engage with a flexible service.
• An ability, interest and commitment to working and developing a therapeutic approach that is culturally attuned to Black, Asian and Multi and Dual Heritage clients.
• Maintain accurate and timely client case notes, ensuring adherence to confidentiality, safeguarding and data protection procedures.
• Support the monitoring and reporting to funders on the development and delivery of the service.

PURPOSE

• Provide counselling and practical support interventions to boys, men and non-binary people who have been raped, sexually abused or assaulted with high levels of need and who are most vulnerable.
• Collaborate with clients to discover what their needs are from our service
• Support the monitoring and reporting to funders on the development and delivery of the service.

KEY OUTCOMES

• Survivors who are highly vulnerable and distressed will have access to a service that meets their needs, with improvements in their overall health and wellbeing.
• A reduction in harmful behaviours, such as less suicidal ideation, reduced drug & alcohol use, reduced incidences of self-harm.
• Survivors who are leading chaotic lifestyles report feeling more stable, better able to cope and better supported.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Service Delivery

• Deliver counselling interventions by phone, video calling and face-to-face
• Maintain accurate and timely client case notes, ensuring adherence to confidentiality, safeguarding and data protection procedures.
• With clients, develop action plans to help them address emotional and practical needs and ensure clients can engage with a flexible service.
• Provide regular and timely communications with clients so that they are encouraged to remain with the service.

1. Monitoring, evaluation and dissemination

• Collect and accurately record one-to-one contact data, including presenting issues, client notes, socio-economic demographics, using Survivors UK Salesforce database.
• Monitor individual client’s progress through the outcomes monitoring framework.
• Where appropriate, and within safeguarding and data protection policies, collate qualitative client stories for reporting back to funders, evidencing need and service user opinion.
• Ensure all clients are aware of and have access to the organisation’s complaints policy.

1. General Duties

• Be responsible for administrative functions associated with the role, including accurate record keeping and filing.
• Provide input and comment on the development of Survivors UK policies and procedures and ensure you follow established procedures.
• As a member of a small team, contribute to the development of new initiatives and services in response to client need.

The post-holder will be required to carry out additional duties from time to time. Such duties will be commensurate with the role.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Experience and qualifications

• A BACP, UKCP or BABCP accredited counsellor, psychotherapist or CBT practitioner.
• Completed at least 3 parts of EMDR training. Potential for completion of the training to be offered with the role
• At least 2-years’ experience of working with highly vulnerable clients in a counselling and/or support service.
• Knowledge of trauma informed practice
• Demonstrable caseload management, with experience of undertaking initial counselling assessments.
• Experience of using creative approaches such as art, drama or play when working therapeutically with children and young people.
• Proven track record in helping clients who are experiencing high levels of distress and/or chaotic lifestyles, to improve their health and wellbeing.
• Efficient and accurate use of outcomes monitoring frameworks, such as CORE, Outcomes Star, or similar

Skills, knowledge and competences

• Strong understanding of the experiences, needs and impact of rape, sexual abuse or assault on (cis and trans*) men and boys, and on non-binary people
• Self-motivated and a self-starter: high level of confidence to develop and deliver a new service.
• A mature, calm and empathic manner: able to engage with clients who have challenging needs and deal with highly emotional and stressful situations.
• Strong communication skills: able to build trusting relationships and rapport with clients and interact and engage effectively with external agencies.

About The Role

The Senior Safeguarding Officer plays a vital role in strengthening safeguarding practice across Place2Be, a leading children’s mental health charity. Working closely with the Head and Deputy Head of Safeguarding, you will help ensure the organisation meets its safeguarding responsibilities for children and vulnerable adults by enhancing training, embedding robust policies, and improving systems and practice across staff, volunteers, and partner schools.

This hands-on and collaborative role combines operational safeguarding oversight, training delivery, and service development, offering the opportunity to influence organisational practice, support multi-agency working, and contribute to better outcomes for children and young people.

We are looking for an organised and proactive Events & Operations Officer to play a key role within this function and deliver the experiences, systems and insight that support Greenpeace UK’s Major Donor, Trusts & Foundations and Legacy fundraising programmes.

Data at Unifrog

The Data team’s goal is to inform every Unifrog decision with data. That includes decisions taken by our teammates, university and employer partners, and the teachers and students who log into the Unifrog platform every day.

Our team goal is ambitious and we need a diverse team working on a wide range of projects to help us reach it. We’re proud of our impact with data, covering everything from managing external data integrations to conducting exploratory research on student behaviour and outcomes. 

What you’ll do

You’ll be part of the Data team, contributing to the full range of work we do. Most of your time will sit within the team’s shared priorities, but you’ll also be the team’s product specialist - the person we turn to first when product questions come in, and you’ll help to develop our understanding of how users interact with the platform.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Understanding how Unifrog is used

  • Building and deepening the team’s understanding of how students, teachers, and partners actually use the platform: spotting patterns, surfacing what’s working, and identifying where users get stuck.

• Triaging incoming product data requests

  • Acting as the first point of contact for product requests into the Data team - scoping them, working out whether the question is the right one, and then either taking them on yourself or adding them to the team's backlog.

• Answering quantitative questions to support product development

  • Tackling the product questions that need analytical work. For example, modelling how to personalise the order of opportunities shown to students, or evaluating the effectiveness of our assessment practice test questions.

• Surfacing opportunities for product improvement

  • Going beyond answering questions to proactively flagging what the data suggests we should do differently - finding friction points, underused features, or patterns in how students and teachers use our tools.

• Bringing platform data to life for partners

  • As someone who understands deeply how students use Unifrog, you'll help internal teams and external partners - schools, universities, and employers - make better decisions using platform usage data. 

• Contributing to the Data team’s shared workload

  • Like everyone on the team, you’ll pick up your share of ad hoc requests and cross-company projects - supporting analysis for school-facing teams, partnerships, marketing, and others as needed.

You’ll become an expert in:

• How the Unifrog platform works behind the scenes, particularly how user behaviour shows up in our data;

• Our analytics stack - Amazon Athena for large-scale analytics and SQL Server for relational data - and how to work across both efficiently;

• The product priorities of the Unifrog team, and how data can shape them;

• Applying statistical thinking to product problems, from defining the right metric to evaluating model outputs;

• Communicating data findings to a range of audiences, from technical colleagues to external partners 

You’ll regularly work with:

• The Data Insights and Research Manager, who will be your line manager and will support you in your projects and development;

• The Data Analysis team, as your team and main collaborators;

• The wider Data team, as the need arises;

• The Product team, as your most frequent stakeholder - though not your only one;

• User-facing colleagues across schools, partnerships, and marketing, when their questions need quantitative input.

Skills and characteristics

We are looking for someone who is:

• Technically fluent with data

  • You're extremely comfortable querying, aggregating, and analysing data using SQL, with experience in other tools such as Python, R, advanced Excel, or similar. You can wrangle messy data into something useful, and you have good instincts for when a result looks wrong. 

• Statistically minded

  • You have a solid understanding of statistical theory and some experience applying it, for example, defining metrics or evaluating an experiment. We see this hire as an opportunity to deepen our team's statistical capabilities. 

• Curious about user behaviour 

  • You're naturally interested in how people use things and why, the kind of person who finds it satisfying to work out what a pattern or data point actually means. When the data suggests something could be better, you surface it without being asked. 

• A clear and persuasive communicator 

  • You can turn analysis into a compelling narrative and explain technical findings to non-technical audiences without losing the nuance. You're also confident enough to push back when a brief is asking the wrong question. 

• A collaborative team member

  • You enjoy being part of a team - sharing the workload, learning from colleagues, and building relationships across the business that make your analysis land. 

Preferred experience

2+ years of experience in any of the following roles (or similar) is preferred, but not required:

• Data Analyst

• Product Analyst

Oasis Nurture is a project that is carried out on the Village. Oasis Nurture is just completing its pilot phase, working with four local schools, offering a two day a week intervention to a small group of children.

The Therapeutic Services Triage and Pathway Coordinator will support the safe and effective front-end management of referrals, triage, assessment coordination and pathway tracking across the service. The postholder will work closely with counsellors, assessors, safeguarding leads, and administrative staff to ensure referrals are managed safely, consistently, and in a trauma-informed and identity-informed way.
 
The postholder will not make final clinical allocation decisions. They will gather triage information, identify risk or urgency, coordinate assessments, and escalate complex, high-risk or unclear referrals to the Senior Counsellor or Clinical Lead in line with agreed processes
 
You will join a developing service with a strong commitment to supporting LGBT survivors of abuse and violence through affirmative, trauma-informed practice. Person Specification

ESSENTIAL:

• Diploma in Counselling (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) accredited course or equivalent); and to have BACP accreditation or be working towards BACP accreditation or equivalent.

• To be a registered member of BACP, UKCP, NCS or equivalent professional body, with over 5 years of supervised counselling experience.

• Significant experience of providing one-to-one counselling for survivors of abuse and carrying out initial assessments and risk assessments.

• Significant knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting this client group and the impact of trauma.

• Significant line management and appraisal experience with the ability to effectively co-ordinate a team. 

• The ability to support staff to foster a positive working environment and deliver a high quality of service.

• Experience of recruiting staff, including inductions and training.

• Experience of managing safeguarding concerns and supporting others to act in accordance with safeguarding policies and in the best interests of the client or those at risk. 

• The ability to work with clients online or by phone.

• Experience of working collaboratively as part of a leadership team and ability to contribute to an organisation’s future development.

• Experience of developing and maintaining working relationships with partner agencies and professionals. 

• Excellent organisational and planning skills.

• Excellent IT skills and experience of using Microsoft Word and Excel, with the ability to confidently use and support others with an online Case Management System. 

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

• A commitment to identifying ongoing personal development and training needs and to take appropriate action to ensure these needs are met.

• The ability to keep accurate and confidential records of client work.

• Experience of being a client in a formal counselling relationship.

• Experience of and commitment to working with diversity.

• To have the capacity to work flexibly within a small professional team.

• The ability to manage own time and work load effectively.

DESIRABLE:

• Training in trauma processing approaches, such as EMDR, Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET),  brainspotting, trauma-focused CBT, and Rewind Technique.

• Experience of working within a community-based organisation.

• Experience of working with people that have used drugs or alcohol to cope with trauma.

• Experience of running therapeutic groups.

• Experience of delivering training.
