Fundraising Events Organiser Volunteer

Would you like to be part of a dedicated and friendly team of volunteers and make a real difference to the lives of cats and kittens in our care?  Do you enjoy planning and organising for events?  Maybe you have a particular skill that you would like to put to use?

Our Fundraising Events Team are at the heart of what we do, raising essential funds for the cats. 

Our Fundraising Events Organisers share ideas, tasks and inspiration, planning and delivering local events, with the support of the Fundraising events helpers, such as Open Days (usually 2 per year) at the centre and our annual Christmas Bazaar. 

Time Expectation:  This role can be varied and time commitment can be flexible. 

Without volunteers, Cats Protection Berkshire Cat Centre simply wouldn't exist. Our amazing, friendly volunteers are a diverse group with a shared love of cats who fit volunteering around their home lives and personal commitments.

We're often looking to welcome new volunteers to join our brilliant team. As well as meeting great people and making an incredible difference to the cats of Berkshire.

Jumble Sales Organiser Volunteer

Would you like to raise funds, have fun and join a super team of volunteers who together make our Jumble Sales in Thatcham a great success?  As Jumble Sales Organiser you would be helping to make everything run smoothly for the team.

Time Expectations:  1 Saturday every other month (plus preparations)

This could be a shared role and tasks may include:

· Booking the hall for future Jumbles

· Contacting the Jumble team before events to check availability

· Set up stalls, running a stall and packing away at the end

· Collecting any items/resources needed from the centre the day before

Brain tumours do not discriminate, and they do not respect boundaries. They can strike anyone, at any age. And they strike quickly. Being told you have a brain tumour diagnosis can be a very frightening and confusing time. At The Brain Tumour Charity, we aim to provide clear, relevant and supportive information to help people to better understand their situation and start to take control of it.

With your help, we want to:

• Increase our visibility – we want to help more people to find our website, following a brain tumour diagnosis.
• Provide high quality information – we want to answer the questions that our community has in a clear and compassionate way, as well as signposting them to resources and support
• Support our current website review process – we want to ensure that our information is up to date, accurate and trustworthy to enable our community to make informed decisions throughout their brain tumour journey

How can you help?

We’re looking for Website Volunteers to review and help improve our new and existing webpages. You’ll be given training in editing these, in order to:

• Improve the readability of our webpages
• Improve our Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), which impacts how easy our website is to find

What impact will you have?

Our website supported over 1.2 million people in 2024/2025 and we want even more people to be able to find us. By helping to improve our visibility, more people will be able to find us sooner after a brain tumour diagnosis and be able to access vital information, resources and support.

We’re looking for

You don’t have to have any experience in SEO or website editing for this role as full training will be provided. We’re looking for individuals with:

• Good written communication skills, including the ability to simplify language into lay friendly terms
• An interest in developing new skills and helping to improve our website information
• General IT skills and an ability to use their own laptop for this role

Time commitment

We ask volunteers to commit to around 3-4 hours each week for a period of at least 6 months. Once you’ve completed the required training, there are no restrictions on when you can do your volunteering – this can be done at a time that works for you, including evenings and weekends. 

Practical considerations

You will receive a full induction to The Brain Tumour Charity and any specific training for the role (Induction training will take place week commencing 15 December). You will receive ongoing direction from one of the team, who will be your key contact.

We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers will be required to complete some internal data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18.

We encourage volunteers to claim for any reasonable expenses that are incurred in the course of their volunteering with The Charity. If we receive a high volume of applications, we may close the role early, so we’d encourage you to apply at your earliest opportunity.

About Abortion Talk’s Talkline

Abortion Talk is a small charity with a mission to destigmatise abortion, one conversation at a time. 

Our pro-choice, pro-voice Talkline launched in 2021 and is open four evenings a week between 7pm and 10pm. Run entirely by volunteers, it offers a safe, confidential space for people to share their experiences, ask questions, or find information about abortion care and related support services.

The Talkline is for anyone affected by abortion - those who’ve had one, are considering one, have supported someone else or work in abortion care.

By joining our volunteer team, you’ll be a part of a growing network of people working to end abortion stigma through compassion and conversation. You’ll build your confidence in active listening and learn how to support people with respect and empathy. You’ll also gain insight into how abortion care works in the UK, how to access services and how to navigate challenging or emotional conversations with sensitivity. 

Most importantly you’ll be helping to make sure no one feels alone when talking about their abortion. 

In spring of 2025 we introduced our webchat alongside our telephone line, for people who would like support but are unable or don’t want to communicate by phone. Volunteers will have the option to provide support via the phone, webchat or both. 

What being a Talkline Volunteer involves

• Offering support and information in a non-judgemental, non-directive and destigmatising way to people who have abortion experiences, over the phone or via webchat.

• Developing an awareness of abortion care pathways that a caller may have experienced or may be seeking. This includes developing knowledge of how abortion services are delivered and accessed.

• Using our Talkline manual and website to signpost to services that can support people with their individual needs. 

• Recording anonymised, general information about calls on our call log database.

• Attending supervision meetings and Talkline Volunteer training/meetings (online virtual meetings) when needed. 

• Keeping up to date with Abortion Talk news and our work. We have a volunteer WhatsApp group where we share news and updates and support each other.

We’re looking for people who:

• Share our commitment to pro-choice, inclusive approaches to abortion

• Can listen with compassion, and without judgement

• Confident using an internet connected computer, including email, google drive, telephone call and/or webchat apps and scheduling apps such as Doodle. 

• Willingness to follow our training, guidance, manuals, and policies.

• The ability to keep personal and confidential data safe.

• Can commit to one or two shifts a month.

• Can offer a quiet, confidential space to take calls or chats.

Previous experience on a helpline or in abortion-related work is welcome but not essential as we’ll give you all the training you need. 

We particularly encourage applications from volunteers across the UK and from men, as a small but growing number of callers are men seeking support.

Training & Time Commitment 

We’re passionate about training our volunteers in essential skills that enable them to handle challenging calls with ease. Due to the nature of this opportunity, we’re looking for people who can commit to all 3 days of the mandatory Talkline training. 

Training will be three half-day sessions (9.30am – 2pm) on consecutive Saturdays and will take place over Zoom. You will need to be available on each of the following dates:

• 10th January 2026

• 17th January 2026

• 24th January 2026

If you don’t already have Safeguarding training - don’t worry, we will provide this too. 

Once trained you will have access to your Welcome Pack, Talkline Manual and our diverse community of volunteers 

We also invite all volunteers to attend at least one “Talkshop” each year as part of their commitment, which is a friendly online space to debrief, share experiences, and learn together.

Home-based Childline email counsellors respond to emails from young people who have got in touch with something that's worrying them, whether it's bullying, abuse, self-harm or family relationships.

Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

What is the time commitment?

Coffee Shop Volunteer - Prevent Breast Cancer

Morning 9.30am-1pm      Afternoon 1pm-4pm

Purpose/summary of the role

Assisting in the running of the Coffee Shop in a methodical and organised way.

The Coffee Shop plays a significant role in the promotion of the image and work of Prevent Breast Cancer whilst providing a vital service to patients of The Nightingale Centre and Prevent Breast Cancer.

The profits generated are used to support research into breast cancer prediction and prevention.

With this in mind, please find below a list of tasks/ activities which the Prevent Breast Cancer Volunteer will undertake in this area.

Main duties & responsibilities

• To assist and serve customers with food items and beverages.
• To ensure food safety and food hygiene at all times.
• To handle cash and card payments securely.
• To keep the Coffee Shop and areas around, clean and tidy throughout the day.
• To check, use by and sell by dates on all perishables and notify at the end of the day.
• Ability to work on own initiative regarding the upkeep of the Coffee Shop.
• To monitor and record fridge temperatures.

Training will be given on all aspects 

• An e-learning course to be completed
• Health & hygiene in regard to serving food and beverages
• Customer service
• Daily cleaning
• Handling cash and card payments, including training on using a tablet and card reader                        
• Monitor and recording of fridge temperature levels

• Desire and ability to liaise and work alongside hospital staff
• Good personal presentation and personal hygiene
• Willingness to attend meetings or training sessions requested by the Volunteer Management Team

Desirable: 

• Willing to get involved with other Prevent Breast Cancer events and other volunteer roles, as and when requested
• To have previously volunteered in a medical or care environment 
• Willing to shadow another volunteer and to allow new volunteers to shadow
