This is a unique opportunity to work closely with the office of the Bishops of Liverpool and Warrington, providing strategic diary management, event coordination, and high-level administrative support as part of the episcopal staff team. The Personal Assistant (Diary & Events) works closely with the Bishops, the Bishop's Chaplain & Executive Assistant and the Finance & Associate PA.
The post-holder will need to have (or be able to quickly develop) a thorough knowledge of the many facets of a Bishop's roles, the workings of the Diocese of Liverpool and the Church of England more widely. As well as having excellent organisational, administrative and diary management skills, the post-holder must have the capacity to respond quickly often working independently and calmly to rapidly changing circumstances and effectively manage competing demands.
This role demands initiative, discretion and creativity. It is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, is passionate about the Church's mission, and is confident in managing both strategic and operational responsibilities. It requires someone who is proactive and can organise their work so that they are one step ahead in order to anticipate issues and influence positive outcomes. The post holder will also be an excellent communicator, able to handle difficult conversations and be highly collaborative in order to build highly effective working relationships with a wide range of individuals and organisations.
The role will be primarily based at Bishop's Lodge, Woolton Park, Liverpool. There is a requirement to be flexible and, on occasion, to work from the diocesan office at St James' House.
These relationships will be vital as everyone in the bishop's office must have a good awareness of each other's work and the capacity to allocate tasks and support each other's workstreams according to the particular demands. Holidays must be agreed between staff to ensure that the office is well staffed. The PA (Diary & Events) will not normally be away from the Office or on holiday at the same time as the Finance & Associate PA.
Any given day is varied and therefore likely to produce a range of demands both foreseen and unforeseen; the Personal Assistant needs the flexibility and initiative to respond appropriately as and when matters arise. The following are, however, the focal responsibilities of the role:
Diary Management
Working with the Bishop's Chaplain & Executive Assistant, to have overall responsibility to plan, organise and coordinate all elements of the day-to-day diary management for the bishops and the Bishop's Chaplain. This includes but is not limited to:
- Book, manage and adjust appointments, engagements and meetings.
- Organise the diary and schedule the bishops' day in a way that enables and sustains their ministries.
- Take the lead on making travel and accommodation arrangements
- Ensure the bishops have all necessary paperwork or information in advance of meetings or engagements
- Liaise with parishes, clergy and all key stakeholders both internal and external where required.
- Be pro-active in drafting appropriate responses to all requests and invitations.
- Protect the bishop's diary by setting criteria to manage all diary demands including pushing back on requests to ensure that the number of commitments is sustainable.
Administrative and operational support
- Managing the administration for Readers in the diocese including liaising with the Diocesan Team and the Warden of Readers.
- From time to time as and when required to serve as clerk to the meetings held by the bishops and to take notes, co-ordinate agendas, actions and follow-ups.
- Oversee the maintenance of the Clergy Personal Files ensuring that they are up to date and stored and organised correctly.
- Collaborate with the Bishops' Chaplain & Executive Assistant and other members of the team to provide administrative support to enable the smooth running of the Bishop's Office and is also crucial to the Bishops' work.
- Develop and maintain highly effective electronic and paper filing systems, data, databases, and other records storage in line with Safeguarding and GDPR principles.
- Undertake other appropriate duties as commensurate with the role as requested by the Bishop
Event management
- Lead on planning and delivery of events, both large and small, hosted by or involving the bishops as required and share in welcoming visitors to the Bishop's Office.
- Plan, coordinate and manage logistics, invitations, guest communications and event materials, liaising with both internal and external contacts and be the lead contact for such events.
- Ensure events reflect the bishops' priorities and are delivered with professionalism and warmth.
Developing and maintaining relationships
Build excellent working relationships with all those with whom the Bishops come into contact by responding to a wide range of enquiries in a warm and friendly manner, either in person or by directing enquirers to the appropriate sources of information.
Establish, maintain and improve ways of working and consistent information flow, including liaising with the bishops' staff, Diocesan Offices, other bishops, external civic contacts, dioceses and clergy nationally; the Bishoprics and Church Commissioners.
Skills/Aptitudes

Location
Hybrid – with regular travel to shops and centres within Nottinghamshire region. Post holders expected to be working flexibly across their community 4 days out of 5, within minimum 1 day per week from our Nottinghamshire Centre – and attend regular team meetings in an agreed location.

Community Fundraising
- Identify, engage and steward individual and group supporters, developing strategies to promote fundraising activities and grow income from your local area.
- Proactively pursue local business partnership opportunities, developing a pipeline of potential corporate support and making applications to secure support.
- Provide high quality stewardship of individual supporters, groups and businesses within the community, responding to enquiries in a timely way and ensuring relationships are developed and maintained at a high standard.
- Represent Jerry Green Dog Rescue as the first point of contact within the community for Nottinghamshire, promoting our mission, vision, and values alongside fundraising and volunteering opportunities.
- Ensure that the fundraising CRM is up-to-date and develop regular reporting mechanisms to inform the Volunteering and Community Fundraising Manager of outputs and results, and support understanding of local audiences.
- Act as a champion for fundraising compliance across the organisation, ensuring adherence to relevant legislative requirements.
Volunteering
- Work with the Volunteering and Community Fundraising Manager and Volunteering Assistant to recruit, induct and train volunteers to support fundraising and other relevant initiatives in the local community.

- Contribute content for marketing communications including; social media, newsletters, local media to support marketing objectives and increase our engagement with potential supporters.

This exciting new role will raise the funds to enable The River Thames Boat Project to expand our cruises and education programme on the River Thames, and cover our annual running costs.
Through your fundraising expertise, you will have a proven track record of raising capital funds, building relationships with individuals, community groups, trusts and foundations and other donors to achieve and exceed annual capital and income targets. You will have the skills to create compelling proposals and appeals that successfully engage and attract donations from new and existing supporters.
Background
Established in 1988, our charity's mission is to make the River Thames accessible to all.
We provide opportunities for individuals to experience river and waterways environments to enhance their personal, social, and educational wellbeing.
Using our fully wheelchair-accessible community boats we deliver educational programmes for children and young people across London and the South East, and therapeutic cruises for people of all ages who have limited access to the Thames due to health issues, disabilities, isolation or social exclusion.
A small staff team of four and more than 100 volunteers support the charity. In 2021, we received The Queens Award for Voluntary Service. The charity, more than thirty five years old, is run by a volunteer Board of Trustees.
We rely on grants, donations and community fundraising to subsidise the cost of our charitable activities on the River Thames.
We are seeking a fundraising professional to grow our charitable income across all streams (grants, foundations, corporate sponsors), raise significant capital funds, reinvigorate our members program, diversify our fundraising income and establish a volunteer fundraising committee.
As Fundraising Manager you will also be responsible for marketing the charity to prospective clients through mailings, social media and other routes.
What you'll be doing
- Develop and execute a fundraising strategy that aligns with the charity's business plan and future ambitions
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with prospective and existing funders
- Research potential trust and foundation funders, write compelling bids and ensure effective reporting and stewardship
- Revitalise the charity's members' program (Friends of RTBP)

The Role:
• This is a key role in the South West region Operation team which works with Site Managers and the Rainforest Project team based in Devon to support and deliver the management of the Trust’s temperate rainforest sites, principally in Dartmoor and South Devon.
• The work will include carrying out on-site inspections and surveys, organising and supervising a variety of contracts, overseeing the work of volunteers and communicating with the public. The area has a lot of active harvesting, so a working knowledge of timber mensuration is desirable for the role.
• You will be responsible with planning, implementing, monitoring the financial management of budgeted woodland management programmes using contractors, agents and volunteers.
• The work will include carrying out on-site inspections and surveys, organising and supervising a variety of contracts, overseeing the work of volunteers and communicating with the public.
• Actively monitor and review the woodland management plans including woodland Condition Assessments, PAWS assessments, compartment record/species checks and site surveys throughout the South West.
• You will be responsible for optimising the engagement opportunities for visitors, local community and volunteers across the key sites to support with events such as community tree planting.
• You will be responsible for developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders to maximise income and grant aid potential to support ongoing projects and programmes.
• This role is based in Devon and will require the successful candidate to travel around the South West region.
The Candidate:
• Experience of land-based management in the forestry and conservation sector, managing and supervising contracts and contractors on site.
• Qualified to HND/degree level in forestry, land management or other related field would be desirable.
• Understanding of project management and the ability to coordinate multiple workstreams and ongoing contracts at one time and to budget. You’ll have a positive approach and be able to prioritise, manage your own time and meet targets to tight deadlines.
• Experience in carrying out on-site inspections and surveys, frequently conducting woodland condition assessments, PAWS assessments and record/species checks.
• You’ll have a collaborative approach, with the ability to work with multiple teams, building relationships with both internal and external stakeholders effectively.
• Ability to engage with visitors, local communities and volunteer manage to support with events across the South West region sites.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety protocols, FSC and FISCA policies and procedures with the ability to supervise and manage adherence to these on a daily basis.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbally being able to liaise with contractors, site managers and wider members of the team and support those around you.
• This role does require regular travel around the South West region. A full driving licence is required. A company car is provided with this role.
