Finance Business Partner 

Finance Business Partner – Enabling & Strategic Investments (18-Month Fixed Term Contract) London, Peterborough or Hybrid 

At Mencap, we’re passionate about changing the lives of people with a learning disability. We’re looking for a proactive and insightful Finance Business Partner to support our enabling operational departments & strategic projects.

You’ll be part of a collaborative Finance Business Partnering team of eight, providing financial insight and support to Mencap’s enabling functions – including IT, People, CEO Office, and Finance – as well as key org-wide strategic projects. This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact by helping senior leaders understand their financial position, make informed decisions, and help deliver the charity’s objectives.

What you’ll do

• Partner with senior stakeholders and project managers to deliver clear, insightful financial analysis and reports.
• Lead monthly finance reviews with budget holders, providing expert advice and challenge to drive sound decision-making.
• Support the creation of accurate budgets and forecasts, ensuring financial plans are realistic and aligned to organisational goals.
• Identify trends, risks, and opportunities through critical review of results and proactive financial insight.
• Collaborate closely with the wider Finance Team to ensure strong financial control, compliance, and accurate reporting.
• Use your analytical and problem-solving skills to spot issues, improve processes, and drive continuous improvement.

What we’re looking for

• Experience in management accounting, business partnering, or financial planning and analysis.
• Strong Excel and data analysis skills, with the ability to interpret and present complex information clearly.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – able to build relationships and explain financials to non-finance colleagues.
• Ideally, part-qualified or working towards a professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA) or equivalent experience.
• Charity or not-for-profit experience, and familiarity with Power BI, would be an advantage.

Join the award-winning Moving Medicine team, led by the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK. We're seeking a dynamic Project Manager to lead two impactful patient-centred physical activity projects.

About the role:

Moving Medicine is an award-winning initiative of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK (FSEM) aimed at improving health through physical activity. It provides healthcare professionals with practical tools and evidence-based resources to promote physical activity in clinical practice. Moving Medicine is our free, award-winning initiative, designed to provide clinicians and allied health professionals with accessible, evidence based, condition specific information to help give advice on physical activity at all stages of a patient’s treatment pathway.

We are expanding our impact through the development of additional Moving Medicine resources for patients. This role will include project managing two large, interlinked projects, with time split across both:

One project is in conjunction with Nuffield Health, the project funders, will initially focus on publishing the newly built Moving Medicine Everyone website (due for publication in November 2025) and accompanying educational resources. The Project Manager will work closely with Moving Medicine clinicians, healthcare partners, stakeholders, and academic collaborators. A key aspect of this role will be to coordinate stakeholder engagement, facilitate collaborative input from academic and clinical experts, and support the demonstration of social impact through evaluation and dissemination activities. The successful candidate will be instrumental in aligning the project with strategic goals, ensuring timely delivery, and maintaining strong relationships.

The other project, Moving Together, is a national collaborative initiative led by the FSEM in partnership with Active Partnerships National Office and funded by Sport England (National Lottery). The project is building a broad cross-sector network and aims to empower people with long-term health conditions to access physical activity by removing barriers, developing evidence-based frameworks, training resources, and governance structures that enable consistent, safe, and effective physical activity conversations across sectors and systems. Working closely with clinicians, patients, policymakers, and professional bodies, Moving Together connects national standards with local implementation, supporting workforce development, data-driven evaluation, and sustainable behaviour change to improve population health and reduce inequalities.

The Project Manager will split their time across both projects, which are closely connected in their goals and approach, and will play a key role in ensuring alignment and synergy between them. This includes supporting shared stakeholders, integrating learning and resources, and contributing to a unified strategy for improving physical activity access and outcomes for patients.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Project Manager to join our dynamic team, bringing strong organisational skills and a collaborative mindset to drive forward these high impact, patient-centred initiatives.

• Support with high value corporate partnerships, including the delivery of employee engagement activities and communications, fundraising events and challenges
• Manage a portfolio of corporate partnerships, delivering first class stewardship and identifying and maximising opportunities for wider engagement

About the role

Reporting in to the Partnership & Strategy Lead, the Programme & Partnership Lead for Colombia will be the most senior and key programme, partnership and lead role for each priority country, maintaining oversight of a dynamic and responsive partner portfolio that aligns with organisational values and goals.

The post-holder will ensure Christian Aid's work in partnership employs a decolonised approach to improve locally led work and maximise impact. The role is key in exploring and contributing to multi country programme initiatives across the cluster. The role provides
oversight and leadership to embed a culture of impact. The role plays a lead role in convening spaces with partners and key stakeholders, including faith leaders, and catalysing for change. It plays a key role in strengthening civil society, and fostering coherent linkages among programme, humanitarian and advocacy interventions across priority countries.

The role works collaboratively with partners to shape our response to poverty across the priority countries, to enable a culture of continuous learning. The role leads on ensuring that initiatives contribute to impact in CA’s four global thematic areas.

Some of the main responsibilities of the Programme & Partnership Lead - Colombia include:

• Drive and lead the programme/project delivery ensuring that it is connected to work across the cluster.
• ‘Horizon scan’ to identify new potential partners that would enhance impact, and review portfolio under each of the 4 CA thematic areas (plus sub-themes of resilience, protection and inclusion) to maximise impact.
• Drive and enhance collaboration with partnerships and Christian Aid (convening) to effectively co-design, develop, plan, budget, implement, evidence, learn and communicate the impact from interventions within the programme. This will involve strengthening our collaboration with church leaders and FBOs, as part of bringing to the fore our faith identity and aligning with organisational values and goals.
• Manage a priority programme partner portfolio and ensure a collaborative approach in project design and delivery with partners to drive meaningful change.
• Be accountable for donor reporting and compliance, supporting proposal co-development and design with partners to foster a mindset of support and connection
• Lead in convening regular programme review, learning and reflection spaces with partners and key stakeholders, and when we bring CSOs together to enhance our mutual impact.
• Lead on representation for the programme and on country specific issues, and on ACT Alliance collaboration, including exploring joint programming.
• Lead on cross programme sharing and learning, to foster a culture of continuous growth and development.
• Manage and support Programme Partnership Coordinators and Government Liaison Officer to ensure operations provide a strong underpinning for our programme, ensuring high-quality and consistent delivery that aligns with organisational values and goals

About you

Essential:

• Master’s Degree ideally in development studies, social sciences or substantial equivalent professional experience.
• Fluent in English and Spanish (bot written and spoken)
• Demonstrable experience of living and working in a developing country.
• Substantial experience of collaborative approaches for programme appraisal, financial management, working with partners and capacity sharing with local indigenous partner organisations.
• Substantial management experience.
• Detailed understanding of development issues and key poverty drivers in the context of the specific priority programmes.
• Detailed understanding of development issues in the context of priority countries, of programme management tools and techniques, including financial management tools.
