Northern Rascals CIC is at the beginning of an exciting new chapter: we are recruiting a Chair and Board members to support our next chapter.  As a leading dance-theatre company from Calderdale, Yorkshire, we are excited to share our work more widely than ever before and build the sustainability and resilience of the company over the next few years.  Our Board will be central to making these ambitions a reality.

We want our Board to reflect our work and communities, and welcome applications from people of all ages and backgrounds across England, especially those from underrepresented groups.

You may bring relevant professional experience, or your own lived experience. You might have been on a Board before, or you might be joining a Board for the first time. 

Desirable skills areas

• Experience in marketing, communications and audience development

• Experience leading or managing arts and cultural organisations and venues

Purpose of the role

The Chair and Board will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the CIC, ensuring it operates effectively, legally, and in line with its community benefit purpose.

Statutory duties (as the Board)

• Promote and ensure good governance

• Review and support the strategic direction of the CIC, setting ambitious targets, evaluating performance and measuring achievements

• Ensure activities continue to meet the community interest test (by demonstrating that Northern Rascal’s activities are carried on for the benefit of the community and do not result in private profit)

• Make sure the CIC’s finances and property are protected and used only for community benefit

• Oversee financial management, budgets, and risk

• Ensure compliance with Company law; CIC regulations; Companies House filing requirements

• Approve and sign off the annual CIC report

• Appoint, support, and oversee senior staff 

• Act in the best interests of the CIC at all times

• Declare and manage conflicts of interest

Further responsibilities 

• Ensure the organisation adheres to the funding criteria for the grants received from Arts Council and other funders

• Promote a progressive understanding of and commitment to diversity in all forms

• Extend the company’s networks of contacts and open doors

• Support and contribute to the development of fundraising

• Review and approve internal policies, such as Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding, Finance.

• Support the Co-Directors with insights from your own experience and knowledge

The Stuart Low Trust are thrilled to invite you to volunteer to support our Spring Term (April-June 2026) programme of Arts, Nature and Wellbeing activities, which operate across Islington and London! 

Rooted in the Islington community and founded in memory of Stuart Low, who sadly took his own life in 1997, we work to ensure no one faces mental health challenges alone or without support.

We collaborate with facilitators, with assistance from volunteers, to provide our Arts, Nature, and Wellbeing programmes for people living with, or recovering from, mental health issues. Running during working hours as well as evenings and weekends, our group activities are inclusive, social, and creative – grounded in the belief that offering shared experiences can be transformative in helping to build connection, challenge stigma, and improve wellbeing. 

Who Can Volunteer?

We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, lived experiences, and abilities, aged 18 and over, who are passionate about supporting people experiencing social isolation and/or mental health issues. No prior qualifications or experience is needed. Ideal volunteers are empathetic, sensitive to diverse needs, confident in group settings, and able to remain calm, adaptable, and professional. Whatever your interests or experience, there’s a place for you on our team.

Applicants should use the application form to select volunteer roles that best match their interests, skills, and availability (e.g. Nature Visit Volunteer, Wellbeing Workshop Volunteer, etc.). 

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering with us is fun, rewarding, and a chance to make a real difference in your community. You’ll gain valuable skills, receive safeguarding and mental health training, have travel expenses reimbursed, and be supported onsite and throughout your volunteering journey by SLT staff. Activities are varied and dynamic, and you’ll meet people with diverse lived experiences, alleviate loneliness and the impacts of mental health challenges, while also becoming part of our friendly volunteer community and eligible for a reference. 

How Does it Work?

We run our activities year-round across four terms: Winter Term: Jan-March, Spring Term: April-June, Summer Term: July-Sept, Autumn Term: Oct-Dec. 

We’re currently recruiting volunteers for our Spring Term (April–June 2026).

If you join us this Spring and would like to continue volunteering in the Summer, Autumn, or beyond, we’d be delighted to have you. We support long-term volunteering and will regularly check in so you can let us know if you’d like to stay involved. 

Person Specification 

Requirements: 
- A minimum of 18-years-old. 
- Willing to complete a DBS check (paid for by SLT). 
- Willing to provide contact details for two referees. 
- Able to commit to in-person workshops (regularly or flexibly, dependant on role) 
- Able to attend a three-hour in-person volunteer training session. 
- Based in or near to London. 
 
Skills: 
- Passion for working with participants experiencing social isolation and/or mental health issues. 
- Awareness of mental health issues. 
- Excellent communication and listening skills. 
- Helpful assisting in a group setting. 
- Ability to remain calm, centred and professional, while keeping a sense of humour.

Expenses 

Stuart Low Trust reimburses travel expenses for volunteer-related activities.

We are seeking a skilled individual to undertake casework in the Community and Integration team. The Community and Integration team supports our clients, through their recovery and journey at the Helen Bamber Foundation, to lead independent lives. We do this by assisting and supporting clients to access education, training, volunteering opportunities and internal and external integration focussed activities. We also run a programme of creative arts and skills-based classes including; English, yoga, textiles, and digital skills. 

This volunteer will also attend and support our Community Group for HBF clients which takes place fortnightly on Thursdays. It is run from the on-site community space at our Old Street offices. At each session we have a main activity which could be arts & crafts, dance, music, or information sessions around healthcare and how to access education. We play games at the start and end of every session, and we always share a delicious and nutritious lunch.

If you have good communication skills, experience in casework or another 1-to-1 support role, excellent admin skills, and are keen to get experience in a Human Rights charity, we encourage you to apply! 

Main tasks and activities 

As a Community and Integration Casework volunteer you will:

• Regularly work on a one to one basis with our clients, remotely via telephone appointment, to support them to access and engage with integration activities and opportunities; i.e. support a client to enrol in college, sign up to an employment scheme, or find and access a local sports/activity group etc. 

• Contact clients to invite them to HBF’s group activities and work closely with the Community and Integration team to ensure the needs of any new joiners are met 

• Liaise with the external organisations in the community, as well as local colleges 

• Support our clients to identify and work towards their goals and help to foster their integration into their local community 

• Use and build on HBF’s directory of education/employment/skills providers and grant funders database

• Make individual grant applications for clients in need of financial support to assist with their education needs or other integration activities 

• Attend and support our Community Group, which takes place fortnightly on Thursdays

• Maintain accurate and timely client records and follow-up work 

• Other administrative duties as required 

Skills and experience needed 

• Proven experience in a 1:1 support role

• Knowledge of the rights and entitlements of asylum seekers and refugees, specifically surrounding education and employment 

• Knowledge of the challenges facing vulnerable clients including asylum seekers, refugees and survivors of torture, trafficking, and a demonstrable empathy for this client group 

• Excellent written and spoken English 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 

• Ability to manage own time and workload, and to prioritise a range of competing demands and maintain accurate records 

• Awareness of confidentiality and data protection 

• Good IT skills including the use of databases, email, word processing 

• Flexibility and willingness to undertake other duties as required 

• Understanding of, and commitment to, the objectives of the Helen Bamber Foundation 

Desirable 

• Experience of supporting individuals to make applications into employment or education 

• Experience of researching different grant programmes and applying for educational and/or other grants on behalf of clients 

• Knowledge of employment rights and pathways to employment for refugees and asylum seekers 

• Fluent in a language other than English

For all our volunteer roles a DBS check will be carried out and we will request two references. All volunteers will need to complete online volunteer training in preparation for your role. You will be supported by both the volunteer team and a designated member of staff in the service too.

We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.

We are looking for a patient and caring volunteer to visit a man in his 50s who lives in his own cottage within a larger care home outside of Denbigh. He does not communicate verbally but understands you as well as using some signs. He likes to have choice about what he does. He has many photos of activities that he's been up to and will happily show you them. He loves colouring and drawing and can spend hours doing it. He has lots of CD's and loves a comfy pair of pyjamas. He likes to go on long drives out and when encouraged to, will enjoy a long walk. You would either do activities together at home or go out with him and his support staff for a meal or for coffee.

This is a Stop and stay, let’s get busy visitor role which means the person you will be visiting can communicate actively with you and take part in choosing or planning activities. As you get to know each our you may choose to ‘go out’ either with or without support from the staff that supports the person you visit. Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tends to be around an hour or longer, depending on what you do.

In this role you will spend quality time with the person you visit and could do a range of different activities like: • Sitting and having a chat • Checking in on their well- being • Going out to a local café/pub for a meal/drink • Enjoying a walk • A craft activity at home • Reading a book/magazine together

• Higher Education leadership experience in visual arts in the UK and internationally delivering multi-partner research projects.

Taunton Brewhouse is looking for trustees from all backgrounds.  Key is sharing our vision for a bold, brilliant cultural venue in Taunton, adding to our existing skills and expedrience and prepared to to play an active role in meeting the challenges ahead.

As a trustee, you'll share responsibility for:

• agreeing strategy and goals for Taunton Brewhouse
• appointing and setting salaries for senior management
• giving oversight and support to management
• paying attention to financial management
• ensuring due diligence in all regulatory matters including safe-guarding
• ensuring a robust approach to management of risk.

You'll attend Board meeting although much work is carried out in projects or committees.  You'll be an ambassador for Taunton Brewhouse and support our wider endeavours through attending press and community events.

There are 5 formal meetings pa held in evenings at Taunton Brewhouse.  Other meetings are generally in the day and are organised around the diaries of those involved.  We also aim for an annual 'away-day' to enable trustees time to reflect, plan and develop the organisation and themselves.

Please note that exceptional expenses are paid by prior agreement.

We aim to be in touch quickly both those who make a full application and those who prefer an informal initial discussion. 

Our new Trustees may come from many walks of life and we do not require prior board-level experience. At this time, we are particularly keen to hear from candidates who can help to build the charity’s infrastructure with: finance or accountancy, law, human resources and people management, income generation, commercial fundraising, marketing and communications, as well as those with experience in the education sector or working with young people.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate some of the following qualities:

• Sound judgement and strategic thinking ability balanced by an openness to listening to others and to new ideas
• A clear commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in the organisation
• Understanding or experience of the arts and/or education and a belief in the transformative power of poetry and performance
• An enthusiasm for arts charity work and the confidence and willingness to advocate our mission.
  
  All Trustees will be offered an induction. The role offers the opportunity to learn about governance and what it takes to run an arts organisation and achieve its objectives. Alongside experienced individuals, we also want to recruit a young trustee who would be willing to take up a governance role for the first time, someone who is willing to be mentored, so that we can offer tailored support and training as required.
  
  All Trustees will have the opportunity to attend Young Identity writing workshops, training, and events to experience Young Identity’s unique delivery of poetry and performance.
  
  Our current board is a diverse mix of trustees with backgrounds in: economics, law, psychology, education, counselling, young people’s arts production, community engagement and creative business development. The current board brings a wealth of knowledge, both specialist and general, as well as invaluable perspectives and lived experience ranging from the local, national and international. However, we also need to actively manage changes to the board as the terms of current trustees come to an end. We strive to do this in a systematic and organised way to ensure both continuity, stability as well as the development and progression of Young Identity.

Yorkshire Wolds Music Foundation is a charity that presents various music and arts projects in East Riding of Yorkshire.

We are looking for a volunteer that can support us in creating these events that support education, community and wellbeing.

This can be a remote role, but if you are nearby and can help out at our festival, concerts or competitions then that is a bonus.

Volunteer as a princess, superhero or jedi to bring magic to children who need it! 

Make a Smile volunteers can take on a number of different roles:

1. Characters - Visit children in costume, as well-known children's characters (eg princesses and superheroes). Provide support at events of a number of other charities, children's hospitals and council organisations through storytime, interactions and activities. 

2. Magic Makers - Visit children out of costume and provide enrichment such as arts and crafts, games etc. 

3. Committee - Help behind the scenes by organising events, recruiting volunteers, running training sessions, helping sort costumes, running fundraisers etc.

Wherever your skills lie! All training is given and costumes provided so all you need is a bit of enthusiasm!
