Campaign for Better Transport is the national organisation advocating for better, greener, fairer transport options for everyone. This includes access to walking, cycling, public transport and shared mobility. Sustainable transport provides access to jobs, education, vital public services, shops, leisure and friends and family, while limiting negative impacts on air quality and the environment.

As a trustee, you’ll have an essential role in contributing towards the future direction of Campaign for Better Transport and making a real difference to our long-term resilience and our subsequent ability to create better public transport.

The last few years have seen increasing difficulty for charities and not-for-profits in the transport sector in raising funds, particularly from Charitable Foundations and Trusts and although good accessible transport is vital to the everyday lives of most people, it is also not an area which resonates for individual fundraising.

For this reason, we’re looking for trustees with voluntary sector fundraising experience to bring new ideas on generating longer term and more diverse funding streams and/or experience of working in small businesses who know how to deliver maximum impact from limited resources.  Ideally you will be passionate about transport and have a strong network of industry related contacts. 

Our board has a good working relationship with our small but dedicated team of staff, and prides itself on being very friendly and relaxed.

Commitment:

• Four Board meetings per year
• Optionally serve on Finance Sub-committee which meets virtually four times per year before the board meeting
• Optionally serve on appointments as required
• Occasional stakeholder and/or fundraising events and training.

About the Role:
In addition to the statutory duties of a Trustee, the Treasurer Trustee provides strategic financial oversight to support the organisation’s sustainability and effective governance.

The role is responsible for advising the Board on its financial duties, the implications of strategic decisions, and ensuring that appropriate financial policies and procedures are in place. It includes oversight of financial reporting, such as management accounts, budgets, and forecasts, and working in close collaboration with the CEO and Director of Finance and Resources.

The Treasurer Trustee also acts as a key liaison with external auditors, presents the annual report and accounts at the AGM on behalf of the Board, and chairs the Risk and Finance Sub-Committee.

What You Will Do

The specific responsibilities of the Treasurer Trustee are:

• Keeping the Board informed of its financial duties and responsibilities.
• Providing the Board with advice on the financial implications of their decisions and strategic plans.
• Ensuring RCSL has the appropriate financial policies and procedures.
• Having oversight of the preparation of regular financial reporting including the management accounts, forecasts and budgets.
• Liaising with and supporting the CEO and the Director of Finance and Resources.
• Liaising with the auditors and presenting the annual report and accounts to the AGM on behalf of the Board.
• Chairing a Risk and Finance sub-committee

Experience of being a Trustee

• An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship.
• Significant experience of charity human resources including at a strategic level.

We are looking to welcome two new members to our Board of Trustees.

To serve as one of Daybreak’s trustees is to play a fundamental role in enabling our charity to pursue its vision, mission, and values. The Choir with No Name runs choirs and builds joyful singing communities with people impacted by homelessness and marginalisation across the UK. Our vision is simple but powerful: that everyone going through tough times can find a place to sing their hearts out, among friends. We are now looking for passionate and skilled people to join our board of trustees and help us deliver on that vision.

As a trustee, you will be joining a committed and experienced board at an exciting moment in our charity's development. We are currently developing a new three-year strategy with ambitions to grow our reach, open new choirs, and deepen our impact with the people we serve. Purpose of the role
Trustees work collectively to ensure the Mitie Foundation is well governed, financially sound, and achieving its charitable purposes. Key Responsibilities

• Strategy & governance: Shape and review the Foundation’s vision, mission and strategy; ensure alignment with charitable objects and Charity Commission guidance, uphold high standards of transparency and accountability.

Person specification
The Board seeks a balanced mix of skills and backgrounds; individual trustees will bring some (not all) of the following:

• Strategic or senior leadership experience in business, charity or public sector
• Charity governance and/or financial oversight
• Expertise in one or more of: HR, social value, finance, legal, ESG, communications, or programme delivery
• Ability to analyse complex information and contribute to sound, evidence‑based decisions
• Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to collaborative, inclusive Board culture

Eligibility, standards and conflicts

• Candidates must be eligible to serve as a charity trustee under the Charities Act and willing to declare/ manage conflicts of interest, particularly given the Foundation’s corporate linkage.
• Appointment is subject to reference and other checks as appropriate to the role and the Foundation’s policies.
• Trustees are expected to prepare for meetings, attend regularly and contribute actively to collective decision‑making.

Remuneration and expenses
This is a non‑executive, pro‑bono trustee role. Reasonable expenses incurred in the course of duties will be reimbursed in line with policy.

Introduction to African Adventures Foundation

African Adventures Foundation is a registered charity set up in 2013 to provide support to 34 schools in developing areas of Ghana, Kenya and Zanzibar.

These schools provide education, health and food security, and social support to young people whose access to these basic services would otherwise be very limited. African Adventures Foundation helps by funding food security programmes, the construction of important school facilities, and hygiene projects that will benefit children’s health and education.

Our mission is to provide more children with a quality education and better opportunities in life.

 All trustees are responsible for governing a charitable company and directing its management and operation. They must also ensure that the trust complies with all legal and statutory requirements.

About the role

The Secretary supports the effective governance and administration of the African Adventures Foundation. The role ensures that the Board of Trustees operates efficiently, meetings are properly organised and recorded, and the charity complies with regulatory and administrative requirements. The Secretary works closely with the Global Chair, Treasurer, and other Trustees to ensure the charity follows best practice in governance and maintains accurate records.

As an ambassador, they also support external stakeholder and donor activities ensuring compliance to the standards required. 

Key Responsibilities 

Governance and Administration

• Support the Global Chair in ensuring AAF is effectively governed and operates in line with its governing document.
• Ensure trustee meetings are properly administered, including preparing agendas, coordinating papers, and taking accurate minutes.
• Ensure that trustee decisions and discussions are clearly recorded and stored appropriately.
• Maintain up-to-date records of trustees, governance documents, and key organisational information, including steward of the governance schedule for all territories.

Meeting Management

• Ensure that trustee meetings are properly administered and recorded.
• Circulate agendas, minutes, and supporting papers to trustees in a timely manner.
• Ensure other meetings, such as the Annual General Meeting (AGM), and key organisational events are properly administered.
• Ensure that minutes from meetings are approved and maintained as part of the charity’s official records.

Compliance and Record Keeping

• Ensure that records required by regulators are properly maintained, including those required by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
• Maintain accurate governance documentation, including trustee appointments, resignations, and declarations of interest.
• Ensure that Charity Commission and other relevant organisation records are maintained and kept up to date.

Regulatory Reporting

• Ensure required information is filed with regulators in accordance with statutory deadlines.
• Submit annual returns and other required filings to regulatory bodies in the correct format and within required timescales.
• Support the Board in ensuring compliance with relevant guidance from bodies such as the Charity Commission for England and Wales and the Fundraising Regulator.

Monitoring Actions and Board Support

• Maintain an action log for trustee meetings.
• Monitor committee member action points and follow up where necessary.
• Support trustees by ensuring they have access to relevant governance information and documents.
• Assist the Board in maintaining good governance practices and transparency.

Terms of appointment

Terms of office

• Trustees are appointed for a 2-year term of office, renewal for 2 further terms to a maximum of 6 years.
• This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Time commitment (Estimated at one day per month, but can vary)

• Attend the board meetings – a mix of online and in person.
• Additional time for preparation and distribution of meeting documentation. Time to manage governance records and regulatory submissions throughout the year.

• Support and provide advice on AAF’s purpose, vision, goals, and activities.

Our partner is an environmental charity focused on protecting and restoring forests and supporting the communities that depend on them, with a particular emphasis on East Africa.

The Treasurer will join the Board of Trustees and provide oversight of financial management and governance. Working closely with the CEO and Finance Manager, the role includes monitoring financial performance, ensuring appropriate controls are in place, supporting budgeting and reporting, and helping trustees interpret financial information. You will also play a key role in overseeing financial processes linked to international operations.

The ideal candidate will bring strong financial expertise, with a recognised qualification and experience of organisational accounting. An understanding of charity finance is important, ideally with some exposure to international work. You will be comfortable operating at Board level and able to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues.

This role involves four Board meetings per year, alongside Finance Committee involvement and some ad hoc support, with an overall time commitment of around 10-12 days annually.

About The Connection at St Martin’s

No one should have to sleep rough on London’s streets and everyone should get the support they need to find a place to call home. 

This is an exciting time for The Connection.  Although rough sleeping is increasing on our streets, we believe we have the solutions.  To meet the growing need for our help, we need to secure more resources.  We are planning a new fundraising strategy so that we can save lives, work more closely with health services and get more people into long term accommodation.

About the Role

To achieve this, we are looking for more fundraising expertise at Board level.  We are looking for a senior fundraising professional to join our active and skilled board.  Ideally you are a Fundraising Director working in a successful medium to large charity, with strong knowledge of highly effective, innovative fundraising teams.  You will guide us to get the best from the resources we put in and steer further investment to support ambitious growth.

We have a particular interest in major donor and corporate fundraising as these are areas where we have the opportunities for growth.  We are also keen to build relationships with senior leaders at funder organisations and encourage them to act as ambassadors to promote our cause.

The Connection has very strong brand recognition for our size due to our location in the centre of London and our long standing relationship with the BBC through the Radio 4 Christmas Appeal.  Help us with our step change in fundraising so that we can make a huge difference to people sleeping rough on our streets.
