Our Organisation & Governance
Bite Back is a registered charity in England & Wales (1180969) and Scotland (SC055240). Bite Back is led by young people - not consulted as an afterthought, but led. Over 70+ core youth activists who sit on our Youth Board directly shape our strategy, campaigns, and communications, supported by thousands of young people engaged across our UK networks.
Our staff team of about 30 people works in partnership with our Youth Board, using their professional networks and expertise to create platforms for young leaders to drive systemic change.
Bite Back is overseen by a dedicated Board of Trustees, led by Chair Dr. Dolly van Tulleken.
The Board is responsible for ensuring the charity fulfills its mission, remains strictly youth-led, and maintains robust financial and operational governance. Our Board currently includes experienced professionals across health, education, finance, campaigns, and youth engagement, alongside Youth Trustees who bring essential lived experience to our governance. Our Board has a Finance Sub-Committee to support specifically with the long-term financial sustainability of the charity.
Everything we do is guided by the core values developed by our Youth Board: Fresh, Resilient, Energetic, Real, and Respectful.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEI-B)
As part of our commitment to making meaningful progress towards a movement where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered, Bite Back’s DEIB vision statement has been co-developed by Bite Back’s young people, staff and trustees:
A fair food system means our working culture and values - Real, Respectful, Resilient, Fresh and Energetic - reflects this vision. We support our staf , ambassadors and trustees to live Bite Back’s values in their work.
At Bite Back, DEIB means that our people are able to join and navigate the workplace, trusting they’ll be supported to thrive, and that we’ll respond with compassion and make change when things fall short. We recognise the systems of oppression which keep marginalised groups from power, and seek to proactively build equity. We are intentional about representation. We actively recruit under-represented voices, ensuring our staf team and youth board are representative of a wide variety of lived experiences.
We push to improve outcomes for those kept furthest from power, celebrate differences and ensure accessibility is built in, not added on. Our aspiration and intention is that Bite Back is an organisation that recognises, shares and acts on its power and responsibility to young people, employees, community and wider society, driving equity and inclusion in every space, and in every decision.
You can read more about how we approach DEI-B on our website.
We are intentional about representation and equity:
● Youth-Led Representation: We ensure our core movement including over 70+ Youth Activists and thousands of young campaigners across England and Scotland reflects the rich diversity of young people most impacted by food insecurity and junk food marketing.
● Proactive Inclusion: We actively recruit under-represented voices to our staff team and Board of Trustees, celebrating difference and embedding accessibility into everything we do by design.
● Continuous Improvement: We continually review and embed inclusive practices across our recruitment, organisational culture, campaign priorities, and board governance.
OUR MISSION IS TO CHANGE THE WAY UNHEALTHY FOOD IS MADE, MARKETED AND SOLD, ESPECIALLY TO CHILDREN.

Help build a more sustainable future — and make your expertise count
What if your experience in sustainability, health, safety and environmental management could do more than support an organisation’s compliance?

Project Yananai specialises in poverty alleviation programmes through sustainable skills development and compassionate humanitarian aid, working with communities and partners internationally to create lasting, positive change.
This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of our sustainability agenda and help embed strong health, safety and environmental standards across an evolving international organisation.
The opportunity
As Head of Sustainability, you will provide strategic leadership across health, safety and environmental sustainability, ensuring these principles are embedded into our programmes, operations and organisational culture.
You will have the opportunity to build, influence and shape — developing policies and frameworks, working with teams across different countries and cultures, identifying risks and opportunities, and helping establish the standards that will support Project Yananai as it grows.
This is a role for someone who wants to use their professional expertise for meaningful social impact and who is excited by the opportunity to build something rather than simply maintain what already exists.

Project Yananai is a UK-registered charity (No. 1209060) and an equal opportunity organisation. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, cultures and experiences.
Empowering individuals, strengthening communities, developing sustainable solutions.

About The Abundant Woman
The Abundant Woman is a women-focused community organisation creating spaces, programmes and experiences that support women in navigating their lives with greater awareness, confidence and support.
Our work spans women’s wellbeing, health education, community building, events, workshops and partnerships. As the organisation continues to grow, we are strengthening our operational infrastructure to ensure our programmes, people and projects are effectively coordinated and delivered.
About the Role
We are looking for an organised, proactive and solutions-focused Operations Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day operational coordination of The Abundant Woman.
Working closely with the Founder & CEO, you will help turn organisational priorities into action, ensuring projects move forward, responsibilities are clear, deadlines are followed and the wider team has the structure and support needed to deliver effectively.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is comfortable taking initiative, coordinating people and projects, improving systems and bringing structure to a growing organisation.
While initially offered on a voluntary basis, there is potential for the position to develop into a paid role as the organisation grows and secures additional funding.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Organisational Coordination
Oversee and coordinate the day-to-day operational activities of the organisation.
Work closely with the Founder & CEO to translate priorities and ideas into clear actions and deliverables.
Maintain oversight of organisational tasks, deadlines and operational priorities.
Ensure agreed actions are followed through and proactively identify areas requiring attention.
Develop and maintain effective operational systems, processes and documentation.
Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve organisational efficiency.
Project & Programme Coordination
Coordinate operational delivery across projects, programmes, events and organisational initiatives.
Maintain project plans, timelines, trackers and action logs.
Monitor progress against agreed milestones and follow up with team members where required.
Identify potential delays, risks or operational challenges and escalate these appropriately.
Support the planning and delivery of events, workshops and community initiatives.
Coordinate logistics, resources and operational requirements for activities.
Team Coordination
Act as a central operational point of contact for team members and volunteers.
Help ensure responsibilities, deadlines and expectations are clearly communicated.

Coordinate meetings, including agendas, action points and follow-ups.
Support the maintenance of policies, procedures and operational documentation.
Assist with governance, compliance and reporting requirements where appropriate.
Ensure confidential and sensitive information is handled appropriately.
Partnerships & External Coordination
Liaise professionally with external partners, venues, suppliers and stakeholders.
Support the operational delivery of partnerships and collaborative projects.
Ensure external commitments and agreed actions are appropriately tracked and followed through.
Skills & Experience
We are particularly interested in someone who has:
Previous experience in operations, project management, programme coordination, administration or a similar role.
Strong organisational and project coordination skills.
The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Confidence working independently and taking ownership of responsibilities.
Strong attention to detail and a structured approach to work.
The ability to identify problems and propose practical solutions.
Experience coordinating people, projects or volunteers.
Confidence using Google Workspace, Microsoft Office and digital collaboration/project management tools.
The ability to work effectively within a growing organisation where priorities may evolve.
Experience within a CIC, charity, nonprofit, community organisation, women’s organisation or start-up environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
Who This Role Would Suit
This opportunity would suit someone who enjoys creating structure, keeping projects moving and making sure that things actually get done.
You may be an experienced Operations Coordinator or Project Coordinator looking to step into management, an Operations Manager wanting to contribute your skills to a purpose-led organisation, or someone looking to build further experience within the nonprofit and community sector.
You should be comfortable working with autonomy rather than waiting to be given instructions for every task.
What You’ll Gain
The opportunity to take meaningful ownership within a growing women-focused organisation.
Direct experience working alongside the Founder & CEO.
Exposure to organisational strategy, programme delivery, partnerships, events and community initiatives.
The opportunity to shape and improve operational systems as the organisation develops.
Experience coordinating a multidisciplinary team of staff and volunteers.
Flexible working arrangements around other commitments.
Professional development, mentorship and opportunities to expand your leadership experience.
Potential progression into a paid position as funding and organisational capacity grow.
Additional Information
This position is initially offered on a voluntary basis and requires approximately 16–20 hours per week, with flexibility around how those hours are structured.
We are looking for someone who can make a meaningful and consistent commitment to the organisation and who is excited about contributing to its next stage of growth.
As The Abundant Woman expands its programmes, partnerships and funding, our intention is to continue developing our operational team and create paid opportunities where organisational resources allow.
The Abundant Woman empowers women with support, wellness, and community, fostering resilience and sisterhood for abundant, fulfilling lives.

Work directly with children / young people: Yes
Age range of children / young people: 18
Disclosure Check: Basic
Term of opportunity: We would expect you to be committed to support The Trust in this role for a minimum of 1-2 years.
Commitment: Mentors will be matched with young people for periods of 3-6 months, with typically 1-2 mentoring sessions per month for each mentee. Mentors are usually matched with 2 mentees at a time.
Location: North of England, London, Birmingham, and the South-West. Please visit our careers site to apply for a specific location.
Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. The King’s Trust couldn’t function as well without the support of thousands of volunteers across the UK, who are able to offer a vital network to young people facing significant barriers to jobs, education or training.
Our Employability and Progression Mentors provide one-to-one support, guidance, encouragement, and inspiration to a young person who has completed a King’s Trust Programme. As an Employability and Progression Mentor, you will offer knowledge, experience, and support to young people as they develop the skills, confidence and motivation to succeed - either in education or further training, through work experience, volunteering or by securing a job of their choice.
Mentors will meet on a regular basis with a young person and help them identify and achieve goals. You will offer guidance, support and encouragement and a safe space for a young person to discuss the skills they need to develop and how to do this. You will provide guidance on employability and job search issues, including supporting with CV writing and interview practice. You will provide active support between sessions as agreed, such as reviewing documentation, email responses, signposting where to find useful resources, networking connections; etc… And you will share relevant learning and useful resources with other volunteers and Trust colleagues that may benefit young people and our work.
Ideally an Employability and Progression Mentor will commit to around four to six hours per month for a minimum of 3-6 months for each mentee with whom they are matched. Relevant experience can be developed during the role but ideally a volunteer will have experience with building trust with young people from a range of backgrounds, mentoring skills, be a good communicator, be able to give and receive constructive corrective feedback and have experience of job searches, application processes and interview experiences.
We are specifically recruiting new mentors to meet a demand for in-work support and job-searching for roles in the Health and Social Care sector. Experience in this sector is desirable but not essential, with a focus on general coaching and employment support being the main priority for volunteers in this position. The majority of these mentoring connections will be fostered online, via digital meetings and email, with limited opportunities for face-to-face connections available depending on location and preference of mentees.
In return for your valuable time, The King’s Trust will provide comprehensive training and support to you in your role. You will enjoy the benefits of being part of a dedicated community of colleagues
and volunteers who directly support young people to transform their lives. Now in our 50th year, The King’s Trust mission is to end youth unemployment – and we want you on board to help us.
The King’s Trust want to be an organisation that's representative of the communities we serve. As such, we would be particularly interested to hear from women and individuals from an ethnic minority background.
We believe that every young person should have the chance to succeed, no matter their background or the challenges they are facing.

Help our registered charity with retreats or community events!
We are a registered charity, housed in a beautiful English medieval manor with an ancient courtyard and a magnificent timbered Great Hall, dating from the 13th century. It is situated in extensive grounds where deer roam freely and where squirrels run up and down trees.
We are recruiting volunteers to join and to help us run activities. In exchange of your work, we offer free board, including 3 meals a day. We hold retreats, workshops, and run a weekly community cafe intended to create an exchange between the Abbey charity and the local community.
As a volunteer, you will play a crucial role in creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for our guests and visitors and you will greatly benefit from the interactions with our retreat visitors who come from all ways of life.
You will have your own unique room in this ancient building BUT DEPENDING ON THE ACTIVITIES (usually during a retreat) YOU CAN BE ASKED TO SHARE A ROOM WITH ANOTHER VOLUNTEER — always around the same age and gender, and usually for no more than 3 or 4 nights. The rooms are not en-suite but there are showers and toilets nearby. The food provided is vegetarian.
PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR STAY IS SUBJECT TO A ONE WEEK TRIAL. It is something to keep in mind before applying. This rule applies to us as well as to you: the first week is an opportunity for both sides to make sure that the arrangement is a good fit.
For UK nationals or people with the settled status, you can stay at the Abbey for up to 3 months.
We expect volunteers to help 25 hours per week. You must be able to help flexibly, both independently and as part of a group, and without us having to chase you. Please note that we are expecting from our volunteers to help with whatever is needed rather than what they want to do. We expect volunteers to be responsible, proactive, mature and respectful.
Most of the help is very straight forward and does not require special skills: we mainly need help to keep the place clean and tidy and to welcome guests and visitors. We are particularly interested in volunteers with housekeeping and hospitality experience, customer service skills, or volunteers able to help for different tasks as gardening, cooking, cleaning, DIY and so on. If you have a prior interest in mindfulness and/or meditation, we would be very interested if you would like to share your practice.
Your days off may not be the same from one week to another and you don't necessarily have consecutive days off. You will always work on Saturdays as we are running our weekly cafe and you may also sometimes work on Sundays depending on our activities, but you will have time off each week. The Abbey Manager and the Housekeeping & Volunteers Coordinator are very cautious about providing the best balance possible between your work and your free time. Each Monday, you will have your weekly schedule.
After induction and training we like to get our volunteers straight into action. After training you would typically be expected to:
- Assist with cleaning, ironing and preparing the Abbey for our guests
- Give a hand in the kitchen and serve food to our guests and clients
- Welcome guests and visitors.
Please note that you will be sharing a house with a small group of people (usually between 5 and 6), mainly international volunteers, and we expect you to be part of the Abbey life (e.g. you don't take your meals on your own in your room). You will be living, eating and working among other people with different temperaments, cultures and personalities. The Abbey is not the place for you if you don’t enjoy socializing and if you don't wish to be part of a group. Of course, you will have plenty of time for quiet and solitude each day and there will be time for your own work, besides the Abbey tasks, if you are a digital nomad. And on your days off, you do your own things and live your life :)
Our house is a quiet and peaceful place, well suited for rest, reflection and respectful communication. It isn't a place for late night parties, illegal drugs and a city lifestyle — but if you like being surrounded by nature and meeting new people from different cultures as well as living and working together in a friendly and beautiful environment, then this is the place to be. You will have a lot of freedom, autonomy and time for yourself as long as the work is done and the house rules are respected.

Each year, we deliver 15 events in venues ranging from iconic theatres such as The Old Vic in London to community spaces and smaller scale theatres such as the New Wolsey in Ipswich, plus a programme of 60 creative workshops in primary schools. We target areas of high socio-economic deprivation, support environmental sustainability, and partner with local authorities, libraries and education providers. Every child who attends our theatre performances receives a free copy of the author’s book to take home and keep. This is integral to our offer - putting excellent books directly into the hands of children.
“Having Frank Cottrell-Boyce in for a free workshop really did make such a difference to our school and to our children. Frank was able to inspire every single child to write, no matter their need or ability, and children who would normally be reluctant to share their ideas in front of the class were confident to do so. Every single one of them went home talking non-stop about the amazing author they had met - with many now inspired to become authors. I can't put into words how grateful we are or how much of an impact those couple of hours have had on both the children and staff.” Teacher,Winyates Primary, Peterborough
The opportunities:
If you have the expertise and passion to support our work and help us to deliver the impact and change experienced by Winyates Primary, then we would love to hear from you!
Thanks to successful fundraising, The Children’s Bookshow is financially stable for the next two years. Iterative growth and continued financial sustainability are crucial for us to fulfill our aspirations for the future:
Give more primary school children the invaluable experience of a live author event at a local theatre.
Enable children to work creatively with a world class artist in their own classroom.
Increase book ownership by putting a free book into the hands of every child who attends one of our performances.

As an MS Help Hub Volunteer, you'll be there for people affected by MS when they need someone to listen.
You'll provide emotional support and reliable information, helping people feel heard, understood and more confident about their next steps. Sometimes you'll answer practical questions; other times, simply offering a listening ear can make all the difference.
You'll support people primarily over the telephone, although we also respond to enquiries by letter, email and webchat. Every conversation is different, and every conversation matters.
You don't need to have all the answers. We'll provide comprehensive training and ongoing support to help you build your knowledge of MS, available support, and the wider challenges people may face. You'll always be part of an experienced team of staff, volunteers and specialists who are there whenever you need them.
Most importantly, you'll be helping ensure that nobody has to face MS alone.
Is this role right for you?
You'll need to be available to volunteer during our weekday opening hours and commit to a regular volunteering pattern of around three hours each week. These hours can be completed flexibly across the week and don't all need to be in one session. The MS Help Hub is open Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm. We’re keen to hear what availability you can offer and will discuss this with you as part of the recruitment process.
As the role is home-based, you can volunteer from anywhere in the UK with a suitable internet connection and a quiet, private space to take calls.

The Committee helps ensure that Samaritans has an effective risk management framework in place, supported by robust internal controls and external audit processes. Its work plays an important part in protecting our staff, volunteers and beneficiaries from undue risk, while enabling thoughtful and well-informed decision-making.
This is an important and pivotal time to join the Committee. During 2025, the Board of Trustees took decisions on the main elements of our transformational future-proofing programme, which we expect to take forward over the next 5–10 years.
We are looking for committee members who can help guide us through this period of change with confidence, care and sound judgement. We are particularly interested in people with experience of risk management in organisations, and who understand how effective risk oversight can support the delivery of strategic aims.
Applicants should have experience in senior risk management or compliance roles, or in implementing risk frameworks at executive or governance level.
For more details please see the role description.
About the role
Term: Committee members are usually appointed for a period of three years, with the possibility of a second three-year term.

Application process: Applicants are to return copy of their CV with a cover letter by Monday 12 October containing a personal statement how they meet the experience, knowledge and skills set out in the role description.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview by video conference on or after w/c 19 October.
If you also hold a volunteer role in Samaritans, please let us know what it is in the application, or contact us to discuss eligibility, if it’s a leadership role.
