The British Racing School [BRS] provides education and training for those employed in or seeking employment in the horseracing industry, primarily young people. The Trustee Board is currently seeking to appoint an additional trustee. It is the boards policy to increase the ethnic diversity of its Trustee Board, in order that the Board better reflects the Charity’s beneficiaries and to realise the benefits that diverse leadership brings.
Operating as a charity, the BRS derives a sizeable percentage of its income from charitable donations, and we are specifically seeking a Trustee with significant experience of fundraising at strategic and operational levels to bolster our expertise in this area and help shape the overall fundraising strategy.
A genuine interest in improving the life chances of young people through education and training is a paramount requirement. In addition, the BRS Board is looking for a Trustee who can think strategically about the BRS’ activities and employ their own insights and experience for the benefit of the Board and the management team.
The current Board will provide newly appointed Trustees with a comprehensive induction programme.
The successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to add value outside their natural areas of expertise and demonstrate motivation to effectively contribute to the BRS.
Personal qualities are important to the BRS – the successful candidate will be pragmatic and intellectually curious with sound people judgement, high emotional intelligence and strong listening skills. It is critical that the successful candidate possesses an open and collaborative style which matches the current culture and values of both the BRS and the Board.
In line with the BRS safer recruitment practices, applicants are required to complete a Trustee Application form which can be downloaded from the BRS website. An enhanced DBS check will also be required as will a minimum of 2 professional references. The school reserves the right to conduct online searches of candidates to determine their suitability from a safeguarding perspective.
This is a voluntary role; reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. The commitment required is usually in-person attendance at 5 meetings, along with attendance at 4 online meetings per year.

Why Should You Become a Trustee?
Being a Trustee is a valuable and rewarding experience. You’ll get to make a lasting difference to the lives of our students, and influence how the Union is run. You will use your skills, knowledge, and experience to support the Board in reaching sound decisions. You will be involved in leading discussions, making collective decisions, and identifying key issues. You’ll have the opportunity to mentor and support our President and Student Trustees. As a Lay Trustee, you are eligible to become Deputy Chair of the Board, or Chair of one of the sub-committees. This is dependent on vacancies for these roles.
You will receive comprehensive induction training, and further training relevant to your role as a Chair or member of a sub-committee.
Job Description
We’re looking for someone to work collectively with our Board of Trustees to provide support and strategic direction to our Students’ Union.
Remuneration: Lay Trustees are voluntary, unpaid roles. However, all reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed, such as travel costs to board meetings.
Hours: Hours can vary however typically each year:
· Four Board of Trustees meetings – each meeting is around three hours long conducted online.
· Additional four (eight for Finance) sub-committees meetings conducted online – each meeting is around 1 hour.
· There are usually one or two in-person events per year including a Board of Trustees meeting – each event is usually a day and/or an evening event. These are delivered in Cornwall (expenses paid).
Term of office: three years, up to three terms.
Location: Homebased with one or two in-person events in Cornwall per year.
Role Purpose:
The Trustees are ultimately responsible, individually and collectively, for all activity within the SU. The Board is legally responsible for our staff, finances, risk management and reputation. The Board is responsible for setting the vision and values of the organisation and for ensuring the delivery of organisational purpose. The Trustees ensure development of and agree a long-term strategy, approving and monitoring delivery plans.

General Responsibilities
- Inputting into and agreeing the Trust’s vision, mission and values and providing advice on the Trust’s wider purpose, goals and activities

- Ensuring key risks are identified, monitored and controlled effectively as well as keeping abreast of changes in the Trust’s operating environment

Be responsible for overseeing all onsite logistics through liaison with the Student Ambassador to ensure that onsite logistics including advertising of the class and other required tasks are taken care of by the MSA/ISoc

Be the point of contact for ISocs: answer questions from the MSA/ ISoc committees and Student Ambassadors to the best of your ability and engage them on a 1-1 basis, listen to their needs and concerns and addressing these accordingly

Magic Hat is Newcastle City Centre’s first and only coffee shop, kitchen and events venue dedicated to impacting the UK’s wider food waste problem - positively. Our chefs design menus on-the-day, every day, made from food that's far too good to be wasted. Fresh ideas for ingredients at their best. Magic Hat also operates a volunteer programme, a PAYF shop, an events programme and a hireable meeting space/kitchen. Magic Hat's profits go to supporting Bind's other projects in food waste prevention. After 5 years of trading in Newcastle City Centre, our lease was terminated for the building to get redeveloped. We are currently seeking out a new premises for Magic Hat and designing for how we can continue to challenge in its next iteration.
Eat Smart is a successful primary school educational programme born in the NE of England designed to inspire children and schools to reduce food waste and build sustainable food systems. We deliver engaging resources and learning experiences that empower schools and pupils to have more ownership of their kitchens/dinner halls, improve student wellbeing, and have increased environmental awareness.
Since 2018 Eat Smart has enabled 70 schools in North East England to rescue their food waste by over 25%, equivalent to saving 6,000 meals worth £13,000 per school, per year, and our expansion to other areas of the UK has already begun. With an ever-growing data set and credibility for school food waste prevention, we have increasing potential to affect school food policy and deliver food waste prevention interventions on a national level.
Bind is expanding its work to ensure food waste prevention, not just redistribution, is at the heart of our mission. Bind works in partnership with businesses, local authorities and community groups to help them reduce their food waste, and reduce their food bills by using surplus food in their kitchens. We are well recognised in the North East and lead various partnerships of public, private and voluntary sector organisations, tasked with reducing food waste at a strategic level.
About the Trustee Role
As a Bind Trustee, you’ll be at the heart of our strategic vision. You’ll make key decisions and help guide our Board and CEOs to maximise Bind’s impact. We are looking for experienced trustees to join our existing team of three, with one or more of the following areas of expertise, although we welcome applications from people with other skills and levels of experience:

Role Summary.

Skills Development Training is a 10+ year established Southwark charity running a new Rotherhithe Saturday School for children aged 7-11 (Years 3–6). We are looking for a committed Volunteer Assistant Tutor to support our small-group Maths & English sessions.
Role Overview

Support the lead tutor every Saturday, 10am–12pm (term time).

Help deliver 1 hour Maths + 1 hour English with a short break.

Work with a small group of up to 10 pupils, focusing on: number fluency, reading comprehension and writing skills.

Help with setting up the classroom, supporting individual pupils, and maintaining a positive learning environment.
